1. NOTES ON INSTALLATION

If you already have a version of GSWin installed,
please uninstall it before installing this version.

Instructions for installing from floppy disk are followed by
instructions for installing from an .EXE file downloaded from
the Internet. The list of installed files is in the file
FILELIST.TXT.

 To install from floppy disks:

 1.
Insert the first floppy disk into either drive A: or B:.
 2.
Select the Start menu from Windows 95.
 3.
Select Run... and enter either A:SETUP.EXE or B:SETUP.EXE
(whichever drive contains the GSWin98 disk).
 4.
Setup will guide you through the rest of the
     installation.

To install from an .EXE file (downloaded from
 the Internet):

 1.
Have your password and serial number available (from
the confirmation e-mail or fax received for the order).
 2.
Double click on the .EXE file in Windows 95 Explorer.
 3.
Setup will guide you through the rest of the
     installation.

2. UNINSTALL NOTES

 1.
From the Windows 95 Start button, select Settings and
     then Control Panel.

 2.
In Control Panel, select Add/Remove Programs.

 3.
On the Install/Uninstall dialog tab, you will see
GSWin98 listed. Highlight that line and
     click on Add/Remove...

 4.
     GSWin98 will be removed.

3. NEW FEATURES

*
Interactive cropping. Find this under the Transform
menu. This allows you to place a cropping selection
on the image. After you click OK, the cropping is
performed and you see the result in the main window.
Note that the cropping function must be the last one
performed before saving the image (do all rotations,
     inversions, etc., first).

*
New output format, TIFF color separations!
To generate TIFF color separations, process a PostScript
document with the color set to 3-bit. Then select
Save As... and select TIFF Color Sep as the file
type. The resulting output will be four 1-bit uncompressed
TIFF files, each corresponding to a CMYK color plane. A
single letter will be added to the file name to indictate
each color plane, for example, if you type in the file name
as TEST.TIF in the Save As... dialog, the output file names
     will be TESTC.TIF, TESTM.TIF, TESTY.TIF, and TESTK.TIF.

*
     New output format, JPEG!
To generate a JPEG format ouput file, process a PostScript
document with the color set to 24-bit. Then select
Save As... and select JPEG as the file type. JPEG will
not work with color depths less than 24-bit! JPEG output
options are in the Setup|GoScript dialog. Options are:
Grayscale, Progressive, and Baseline. Also, the Quality
can be adjusted from 0 to 100 and the Smoothing can be
     adjusted from 0 to 100.

*
EPS files with binary headers (indicating a viewable bitmap
image is embedded) can now be processed without aborting.
This is automatic; the interpreter automatically detects
these kinds of files and can process them correctly.

*
GSWin98 User's Guide is contained in the file
GSWIN98.HTM (an HTML format file). Use an Internet
browser like Microsoft Internet Explorer or
Netscape Navigator to read and print the User's Guide.

*
Windows 95 and Windows NT PostScript files contain certain
bitmap images are not compatible with Level 1 PostScript
interpreters. As a workaround, use the file GSINIT.PS as
a preamble file, which contains PostScript code that should
solve the problem. List GSINIT.PS in the PS Preamble Files
text box on the Fonts tab in the GoScript Interpreter
     Configurations dialog box.
