Directory Usage Monitor Copyright (C) Moose O'Malley,
----------------------- April 1998.

Directory Usage Monitor for Windows 3.1, 3.11, 95, NT.

Developed using 16-bit Delphi.

Directory Usage Monitor enables you to analyse the
disk space used and the number of files present in a
directory and all of its sub-directories on a harddisk,
floppy disk, CD ROM, Network Drive, or any other form of disk.

If you have ever asked the questions :
- Where the hell has all my disk space gone ?
- Which directories are using the most disk space ?
- Which user's on a Network drive are using the most disk space ?
- How much disk space is Fred using on the Network Drive ?
- How many files are there in this directory tree ?

Then Directory Usage Monitor could be of great use to you !

This utility could be used by Network Administrators, Systems
Administrators, or by users who need extra disk space or find out
where / what directory is using lots of disk space.

Using Directory Usage Monitor :
--------------------------------

Simply select the Drive and Directory you wish to analyse
and click the "Update Dir Info" button.
Directory Usage Monitor will then work out the disk space
used by the particular directory and all it's sub-directories
and the number of files in each directory.

The "Total of All Directories" (KB used and number of files)
is displayed for the total of all directories under consideration.

If you wish to "Stop" this process at any time, simply click
the "Stop" button. (This will result in the process being stopped
and the text "*** Aborted !!" appearing in various cells.

You can sort in ascending or descending order on Directory name,
KB of space used, and the number of files present in each
directory under consideration.

The Future :
------------

Much new functionality can be added to this program in the
future, such as :
- Keep a history of disk space usage so that comparisons
can be made to see how usage has changed.
- Command Line mode - like Checksum Calculator - so that the
program runs automatically at (say) Windows startup.
- Ability to display file sizes in KB, MB, GB, TB.
- Make the application reside on the Windows 96 / NT Tray Bar.
- Add in ability to log all directories on a given drive
and store this information, so that as directories are
traversed are revisited, the data does not need to be
  logged again.
- For each sub-directory, display the number of
  sub-sub-directories it has.
- Display the maximum file size, average file size, etc
  for each directory.
- Anything else ?

If anyone requires any of this or other functionality,
or has any other suggestions, please email me and let me
know !

Limitations / Restrictions of the Shareware version :
-----------------------------------------------------

I could have restricted this program very much in the Shareware
version, but I have had a kind heart today, and I think
that the program is useful and for $5 hopefully some people
will register. If you use this program, please pay the
$5 (FIVE dollars) and register it.

The Shareware version of this program has the following
limitations / restrictions :

- The Shareware version is a 16 bit version of the program, which
means that Windows 95 / NT Long File Names are *NOT* supported.
Registration of this program will also bring a 32 bit version
of the program with its Windows 95 / NT Long File Name support !

- The program will not save its settings on Windows Shutdown,
but it will still save its settings when you manually exit /
close the program - just not when Windows terminates the program.
- A "Shareware" label is displayed in the Menu area of Text Buttons.
- Every now and then a "You have used this program xxx times,
Please Register" message will appear on program startup.

To remove all the limitaions of the shareware version,
please Register.

Sharware Information :
----------------------

This is NOT free software. This product is shareware.

But, it only costs $5 (FIVE) dollars to buy !

This means that you can try out the software for evaluation
purposes without charge for a period of 21 days to enable you
to decide whether to purchase / register it.

If you use this software after the 21 day evaluation period
a registration fee is required. See the Registration Form
in the file register.txt.

Unregistered use of this software after the 21-day evaluation
period is in violation of U.S. and international copyright laws.

If you do not purchase / register the software after the 21 day
trial period, then you must delete it from your system.

In order to encourage me to develop this software and keep
developing other software, I encourage you to do the right
thing and register the software.

I could have easily have made the programs nag you to Register,
or expire after 21 days of use, but I do not like this approach.

From April 97 on, however, some of the new functionality being
added to my programs will be available for Registered users only.
I tried to avoid doing this, but now I have been forced to do
this to try and encourage some Registrations.

I live in the hope that if people use the programs, then they
will register them.

Registered users will receive FREE upgrades of the program for
the life of the program. i.e. as long as I keep improving the
program, registered users will get this new / additional
functionality for FREE.

To Register, please complete the Registration Form in
the file register.txt.
