Security Information for Netscape Communicator Users:
WebZinger, although it runs in your browser, is an application that fetches (or records) summaries of websites and writes them to your hard disk, and then allows easy playback from your browser. It creates a directory on your disk called wzmedia and puts all of its files in that directory. This directory is placed in your Java.Home directory which is usually in the netscape/users/username directory (this will vary on different os's and system configurations). Since it needs to read and write files from your local disk, Netscape will ask you to approve 5 Java Security Certificates:
They are:
1. To allow WebZinger to read where your java.home
directory is (get system parameters)
2. To allow WebZinger to write its directory
and files (write permission)
3. To allow WebZinger to read its files (read
permission)
4. To allow WebZinger to fetch information from
urls that it finds (connect permission)
5. To allow WebZinger to launch the file manager
if neccesary to view directories.
If you push the grant button on the certificates,
then WebZinger will be able to proceed.
If you push the remember this decision button,
then Netscape will not ask you again the next time that you run the program.
Quick instructions for Running WebZinger:
WebZinger works like a tape recorder and player. You make recordings off of the web and you play them back on your browser. WebZinger comes up with a playback list of items that you have recorded. If this is your first use of WebZinger then you will not have anything to play back in the list yet, so you should make a recording.
To let WebZinger make a demo for you:
1. The first time that you run WebZinger, a dialog
box will ask you if you would like for WebZinger to make a demonstration
recording of "Sailing" for you to show you how it is done. If you would
like for WebZinger to make this recording, then push "Demo". If you would
like to make your own recordings, push "Home" and then push "Record".
To make a recording:
1. Push the record button.
2. Enter a search term in the Search Item Line.
For example, to search for sites about Sailing, type the word sailing in
this field.
3. Push the record button. The recorder will
gather information off of the web. If this is a demo version, the number
of sites fetched will be limited. The first site will be about WebZinger
in the demo version. If this is a full version, WebZinger will not limit
the searches. Look at the Settings and the Advanced settings for all recording
features.
4. When the recording is done, the program will
say Successfully completed.. Close the record window. The item that you
recorded will be listed in your playback listing.
To play an item in the playlist:
1.Select the item for viewing.
2. Push play.
3. Sit back and watch. If you see a site that
further interests you, push the mouse button anywhere on the browser window.
You will pause and can go directly to that site by pushing the online button.
Or you can set the online button to automatically take you online whenever
you pause.
