VPOP3 README
=============

VPOP3 is a 'Virtual POP3' server.

It is designed for connections where your ISP gives you a single POP3 mailbox
which contains mail for <anyone>@<address>, so a single POP3 mailbox may
contain messages for fred, jim, bert etc. VPOP3 will separate out these
messages working from certain rules which you can specify, and then presents
several separate POP3 mailboxes, one for each user. These POP3 mailboxes can
then be access from standard POP3 aware EMail software such as Pegasus Mail,
Microsoft Exchange (Internet Mail addon), Microsoft Internet Mail, Eudora, etc.

VPOP3 also has many more exciting features. Take a look at the Introduction
in the help file for a quick summary of some of them.

Licence & Warranty
===================
No warranty as to suitability of this software is given. It is made available
on a strictly As-Is basis. The authors will endeavour to fix any problems
which are notified to them as soon as reasonably possible.

You are allowed to evaluate VPOP3 for 30 days before purchase. The normal
evaluation only allows the use of up to 5 mailboxes (users), however you
can obtain larger evaluation licences by emailing evaluate@pscs.co.uk

The purchase prices for various levels of licence are available by pressing
the 'How To Buy' button on the properties page, or searching for
'Purchasing VPOP3' in the help file.

Upgrading
==========
If you are upgrading from a previous version of VPOP3, please ensure that
_ALL_ message queues (both incoming and outgoing) are flushed before
installing the new version if possible.

To check if the queues are empty, use the VPOP3 status window. Using the 'User'
display in 'Properties' will show you which users have how many messages in
their incoming mailboxes.

(If you are not able to empty all incoming queues before upgrading and all
messages seem to have disappeared from these queues after upgrading, then
run the VPOP3MIGRATE utility with the path to the VPOP3 directory as a
parameter - eg VPOP3MIGRATE "c:\program files\vpop3")

Finally, before installing the new version, make sure that VPOP3 is not
currently running.

Installation
=============

VPOP3 now comes with an automated install/uninstall program, so just run
SETUP.EXE

If you want to extract individual files, you should note that SETUP.EXE is
ZIP compatible, so WinZip or another ZIP file extractor will be able to
read it.

Quick Introduction
===================
When you run VPOP3 you should see a small red British Postbox appear next to
the clock on the bottom of your screen. If you right-click on this postbox
you will get a menu.

Choose "Properties..." from this menu, and you will first of all be asked
to 'login'. This is a security feature so that only administrators can
reconfigure VPOP3. The initial username and password are 'postmaster' and
'admin' respectively. You can change these later if you want.

I advise you read the help file before starting if you're not sure what to
do. The help file has been arranged so that it will teach you the basic
features first so you can get started quickly.

Known Issues in VPOP3 V1.2.8 beta
==================================
- This beta will stop working after February 1999 - later versions should be
available by then
- The help file has some missing or un-updated sections. These will be fixed
in the next version
- The 'Configuration Checker' doesn't exist yet
