High Heat Baseball(TM) 1999 Patch
June 8, 1998
Version 1.3

This comprehensive patch will update the original version (1.0) as well
as patch update versions 1.1 and 1.2.

Installation instructions
=========================

1. Once the HH99_P3.exe file has been saved to your desktop, double
click on it.

2. A window titled "WinZip self extractor" will appear.

3. In this window, there will be a line of text "unzip to folder:"
and the default install location of High Heat Baseball
(default is C:\High Heat 1999). If this is where you have High Heat
Baseball 1999 installed on your computer, click the "unzip" button.
If you have installed High Heat Baseball to a location other than
C:\High Heat 1999, you will need to enter that location in the
"unzip to folder:" field. Once you have done this, select the unzip button.

4. When the dialogue box 3 file(s) unzipped successfully appears,
click the Okay button to complete the install of this patch.

To verify that the patch installation was successful, open up your
High Heat 1999 directory (default C:\High Heat 1999), right click on
Baseball.exe, select Properties and click the Version tab. If file version number is 1.3,
the installation was successful. If the file version number is not
version 1.3, reinstall the patch by simply double clicking (launching)
the HH99_P3.exe file.

Update 1.3 Features
===================

1. Cyrix Timer resolution. This will ensure High Heat Baseball 1999
is compatible with the MX, GX and L-Series chipsets from Cyrix.

2. F12 functionality fixed on the following screens:
Season Main Menu, Season Schedule, (League) Leaders, Playoff Bracket,
Line Score (Post game screen), Box Score (Post game stats screen),
End of Season Screen (MVP, CY, etc.) and Season Results.

3. F11 compatibility fix with Windows when the operating system
is installed on a drive other than the C: drive.

4. Resolved gameplay issues when infielders would allow some pop-ups to fall.

5. Resolved gameplay issues when outfielders would charge balls
instead of moving to cut them off. This resulted in single becoming triples.

Update 1.2 (May 9, 1998) Features
=================================

The following features were originally introduced in v. 1.2 of
High Heat Baseball 1999. They are also included in this patch.

1. The functionality to save a season difficulty level. Saving the
difficulty level can be done in either the Season Main Menu or in
the Stand-Alone Playoff Mode.

From the Season Main Menu-
The currently-saved difficulty level will be displayed on the Exit
button on the Season Main Menu.
You may change the difficulty level for a Season in the Season Main Menu.

From Stand Alone Playoff Mode-
The currently-saved difficulty level will be displayed on the Done
button in Stand Alone Playoff Mode. You may change the difficulty
level for a Stand Alone Playoff while on the Playoff bracket screen.

The level change can be done by pressing one of the following keys:

F1=Rookie
F2=Pro
F3=All-Star
F4=MVP

Upon your next Save your newly selected difficulty level will be stored.
However, if you wish, you may change the difficulty level at a later time.

2. Improved controller button recognition, but the real solution is in
an alternative controller setup (included in this update).

SPECIAL NOTE: To activate the alternative fielder controls, please
do the following.

Load the file "id.bin" (This file will now be found in the root directory
of High Heat) into Microsoft Notepad . The same directory that you will
find Baseball.exe.

Change the line:
test fielder controls: 0
to
test fielder controls: 1

* (0 = Standard controls 1 = alternate version)

Save the file.

The controls, after a fielded ball, will work as follows:

For the Gravis Gamepad Pro:
Red 	- Throw to 3rd
Blue 	- Throw to 2nd
Green 	- Throw to 1st
Yellow 	- Throw to Home
R 1 	- Run to base
L 1 	- Run to runner

For the Microsoft Sidewinder:
X 	- Throw to 3rd
Y 	- Throw to 2nd
B 	- Throw to 1st
A 	- Throw to Home
R 	- Run to Base
L 	- Run to Runner

You may change back to the original controls at any time by
editing the "id.bin" file.

Change the line:
test fielder controls: 1
to
test fielder controls: 0

*(0 = Standard controls 1 = alternate version)

SPECIAL NOTE: Customer Support will answer questions
concerning "id.bin" changes that relate to the controller
selection. With the exception of the controller field, the
data in "id.bin" should be edited at your own risk.
Customer Support will not field calls relating to
adjustments that are not controller related.

These changes only affect the controls after a ball has
been fielded. At all other times the controller will
operate the same as in the past.

3. Manager only keys (See below for exact keys).
These keys work if the function is set to auto and only for
human controlled teams. (For example, you may only use the
Steal commands if base running is set to auto.) This
does not cover every command. Only one option may be
selected per team per pitch.
- Control-B: Bunt
- Control-2: Steal 2nd base
- Control-3: Steal 3rd base
- Control-4: Steal home
- Control-H: Hit and run
- Control-S: Squeeze play
- Control-I: Intentional walk
- Control-P: Pitchout

4. F12 functionality added to save comprehensive season results
in a file on
the Windows desktop.

This can be done at any time from the schedule screen in Season.
(WARNING - THIS WILL TAKE APPROX. 30 seconds.)
The music will loop and controls will be deactivated. Three .txt
files will be placed on your desktop: batting, pitching, and
current season team information. These files may be loaded into
sortable columns in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Works as a spread
sheet file, or any spreadsheet program. The files may also be
loaded into any text program but it will be more difficult to
organize the information.

*This may also be activated from the playoff bracket screen
 in stand-alone play off mode.

5. F11 functionality added to save Post Game information in a file
on the Windows desktop. This can be done at the Post Game screen
after any game. It may be loaded into any text editor.

6. Minor tuning adjustments.

7. HR derby slightly more difficult.

8. Improved outfielders' cutting-off hits. This fixed an issue
where the outfielders were not getting in line to cut off the
ball quickly enough when an infielder attempts a great catch.

9. Resolved a problem that resulted in two fielders appearing to be
relay men. This was not only visual. At times, second base
would be left uncovered.

10. Resolved a problem where a player in the dugout could get injured.

11. Improved the likeliness for pitchers to pitch-hit
late in the game when losing.

12. Increased number of hitters' fouls. Statistically, there
were not enough foul balls.

13. Toned down how badly fielders field when playing out of
position.

14. Some minor quick simulation adjustments to improve accuracy
of hitting statistics.

15. Ball and shadow size reduced.

16. Improved runners advance on 2 outs once the ball has been
fielded.

17. Auto-save of settings and options added to the game-play
path. These are saved separately for Exhibition, Season,
and Stand-alone Playoff.

18. Fixed stuttered safe umpire calls.

19. Improved ease of turning the double play.
