Installation
------------

Methods of installation vary depending on where you got this software from.
If installation instructions have been provided separately, please follow
them. 

If installation instructions have not been supplied then...

If you downloaded this software from an on-line service you can run the
SETUP.EXE program from within the .ZIP file if you are using WinZip.
Otherwise you should unzip the contents of the .ZIP file into a temporary
folder and then run SETUP.EXE from there using Windows Explorer. The
temporary folder can be deleted once installation is complete.

If this software was supplied on disk, run the SETUP.EXE program on disk 1.

WARNING:
If you are upgrading to this version of Slide Librarian from a previous
version and have already built a slide database; ensure that you have
backed up your data before installing this version.

Version 2.1  May 1998

Upgrade release.

Now supports JPEG, PCX and PNG image files as well as BMP. Choose which type
you want to export in Preferences.

Scan direct from TWAIN compliant device to thumbnail and/or fullsized images.

The Database Window Edit menu is now called the Image menu.

Avery Label products default settings for Print Slide Labels.

Number of rows/columns of slide labels per page added to Print Slide Labels.

Vertical nudge setting added for slide labels.

Line spacing has been reduced on slide labels.

Multiple label contents added to Print Slide Labels. You can now have
separate label contents for, say, top and bottom labels.

The printer settings (printer, page size, orientation, bin, etc) for
printing slide labels are retained between label printing sessions. Printer
settings for printing other reports is based on the default printer settings.

Shrink full-sized images to screen size option added. You can set the
default option in Preferences and change the option for the image being
viewed in the pop-up menu.

Page setup dialog added. Allows you to set the margins for Picking List,
Running Order and Contact Sheet reports.

The Contact Sheet can now be printed with or without a coloured slide mount.
Set this option in Preferences.

Upgrade release.

Title and Keywords field sizes increased to 80 characters.

User-defined fields option added.

You can now customise the database grid layout.

Query Window now has additional field searches and exclude flags.

Slide data summary now available by right-clicking on the slide image in
the Query Window.

Command to export bitmap (.BMP) files added.

Command to import slide thumbnails using full-sized bitmaps added.

Toolbar added to Light Table.

Text file import and export now uses field order specified by the database
grid.

Use CTRL+Del to remove SQL searches from the drop-down list in the Query
Window.

Date queries now work.

Contact Sheet printout enhanced to include all slides on the Light Table
automatically.



Version 1.1  Feb 1998

Upgrade release.

The Query Window slide image box now displays the slide prefix & ID of the
currently selected slide in the search results list if there is no slide
image stored in the database.

Light Table files would not accept slides with IDs greater than 32767. Fixed.

Light Table file names became inaccessible for File|Open or File|Delete after
using Book Out.

Switching from inches to mm in the Print Slide Labels dialog caused some
errors. Fixed.

The Light Table did not check for changes to the current light table slides
before opening a new file. Fixed.

Abort/Progress window added for reports and dropping more than 10 slides to
the Light Table.

Deleting slides from the Light Table now repositions the scrollbar correctly.

Light Table File|SaveAs dialog now pre-filled with the current Light Table
filename (if any).

Using the Light Table File|Open command now resets the scrollbar to the top.

------------

This product is SHAREWARE. This version is a fully functional evaluation
copy which you may install and use free of charge for 30 days. After that
time, if you wish to continue using the program you must become a registered
user. Details of how to register are available in the on-line help.

If you have registered a previous version of this program, you can upgrade
to this version and use your registration key to register it instantly. No
further payment is required.


System requirements

  IBM compatible PC - Pentium 100
  SVGA monitor set at 800x600 pixels and 16bit (HiColor, 64,000 colours)
  16Mb RAM

  Hard disk space:
    5.5Mb - program and ancillary files
    plus either
      13kb per slide (thumbnail images only)
    or
      up to 741kb per slide (includes full-sized images with 24bit colour)

  Image capture system (scanner, video snapshot, etc) (recommended)
  Printer (recommended)
  Windows 95 (required)

----

To get you off to a flying start using Slide Librarian, read the help
topic "Getting Started". This will lead you through the basics.

The SLIDES.HLP help file is a complete on-line manual for Slide Librarian.
As well as providing context-sensitive help direct from the program,
it contains all the technical information about the program, usage tips and
details on how to register in an easy-to-use format. Please make extensive
use of it, you will find it very useful.

The file SLIDES.TXT is an extract of SLIDES.HLP in text format which you
may send straight to your printer. You can do this using the Print User
Guide command from the Database Window Help menu.
