** PETERSON'S UNIVERSAL APPLICATION **

What is Peterson's Universal Application?

Peterson's Universal Application is an official application for
admission to the participating undergraduate institutions.

This program allows you to complete your application only once,
then print out copies for each of the participating institutions
to which you are applying. In addition, you can save your
application file to a floppy disk and send it to the
institutions--or even send your application as an attached
e-mail.

Check each institution's details in the "Colleges" section of the
program for more information on acceptance policies, application
fees, deadlines, and contact information.

This software is distributed FREE to any prospective student who
wishes to use it.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

386, 486, or Pentium computer running at a minimum of 16Mhz
     4 MB RAM or more
Hard disk with a minimum of 2 MB free space
     Windows 3.1 or higher
     Mouse
     Printer

BASIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE UNIVERSAL APPLICATION:

NOTE: For more detailed instructions, double-click the "On-Line
Help" icon from the Program Manager or choose "Contents" under
the Help menu in the Universal Application program.

 1. When you start the program, you will be asked to give your
application a file name, enter a password, and input your name.
WRITE DOWN AND SAVE THIS PASSWORD, because you will need it to
    make modifications to your application.

 2. Fill out each section of the application completely. The
application section is arranged in a "tabbed" format. Clicking on
a tab will bring that section of the application to the
forefront. Please note that some tabs contain multiple screens.
Be sure to visit each screen of every tab. (Note that not all
schools require a personal essay. Consult the "Colleges" tab in the
program for institutions' specific essay requirements.)

 3. When you have completed the application, use the "Save" item
under the File menu to save your work. To make a backup copy on a
floppy diskette, choose the "Save backup" item under the File
menu. You will be asked to insert your floppy and specify which
drive (a: or b:) you wish to save your data to.

 4. Print a copy of the application for each college to which
you are applying. When you choose "Print" from the File menu, you
will be able to print all forms or selected forms. The Print menu
also allows you to print any form blank if you wish to fill out
the Universal Application by hand. Be sure to sign your application
    after you print it.

 5. If the institution to which you are applying accepts a disk
or e-mail version of the application, choose the "Export Data"
item under the file menu. (The institution uses this data to
speed application processing time.) You will be asked to choose
where you want the exported file to be saved: on your hard drive
or to a floppy. If you save to the hard drive, you will see the
standard Windows save dialog. If you select "Save to floppy," you
will be asked to insert a floppy and specify which drive (a: or
b:) you wish to save your data to. For more detailed information,
see the "Submitting Your Application" section of the Help
Contents (choose "Contents" from the Help menu above.)

 6. Mail your application and the appropriate fee to the office
of admissions of each college or university you have chosen. A
list of participating colleges, which includes application fees
and deadlines, is found under the "Colleges" tab.

 7. If you are applying to a college or university as an Early
Action or Early Decision candidate, check with that college for
its policy and deadline, and notify the admissions office of your
intent by attaching a letter to your application. You must also
    inform your guidance counselor.

 8. Give printouts of the School Report to your guidance
counselor. Your guidance counselor will need one for every
institution to which you are applying.

 9. If any of the colleges or universities to which you are
applying requests a Teacher Evaluation form, ask a teacher to
complete that form as instructed and to mail a copy to the
    appropriate college.

10. Be sure that your counselor sends transcripts covering your
grades through the first semester or trimester of your senior
year to the institutions to which you have applied.

UNINSTALLING THE PROGRAM:

Double-click the "Universal App Uninstall" icon from the Program
Manager. This will delete all files that were placed on your hard
drive during installation. **NOTE: This process will also delete
any saved application files you have in your Universal
Application directory.**
