<1>INTRODUCTION
***************

MSReport has two primary features, one for yourself and one for Microsoft:

(1) It makes it easier to create and track a detailed problem report.
MSReport will prompt you for specific information about the problem
and offer you multiple-choice options wherever possible. You enter
information about yourself and your equipment only once, thereafter
MSReport includes it automatically with each report you prepare.
MSReport's database like interface also allows you to view your report
titles, identify reports that you have exported into a Sendfile (to
send to us), and use the built in ReportFinder to search for particular
reports you have created.

(2) It helps us do a better job of processing the problems you report.
Because it standardizes the report process, we can quickly incorporate
your Problem Report into our databases and assign it to someone to
investigate and fix.

MSReport replaces the Winbug utility which Microsoft has used in the past
for reporting bugs.

NEW FEATURES:

Now MSReport is a multi-program tool, meaning 'one-stop-shopping' for your bug
reporting. No longer do you need to have a separate bug reporting tool for
each beta program you participate in. Just double click on the folder with
the name of the program you want to create a report for then click on the
'New Report' button on the toolbar.

In fact you can use MS-Report to report problems with MS-Report itself.
Just select the MS-Report program folder and create a problem report.

<2>INSTALLATION
***************

NOTE: MSReport can only be setup and run on Windows 95 or Windows NT
      operating systems.

SETUP: On the Bug Reporting disk which was included in your beta kit,
you will find a setup program in the root directory. Setup will
default to placing MSReport on C:\MSREPORT, however, you can configure
this to your own liking.

Depending on the operating system used, once setup has completed,
a 'Microsoft Beta' menu item or program group will be added.

<3>USAGE
********

USE ONLINE HELP: Please use the online Help! We recommend that you read it
thoroughly to find out about all the features available so you can report
any problems to us with this 'beta' version of MSReport.

SENDING REPORTS TO MICROSOFT: The resulting bug file (termed a 'Sendfile'
in MSReport, created by selecting one or more reports and clicking the
'Sendfile' button on the toolbar), should be uploaded to the FTP location
provided to you.

SUBMITTING REPORTS FOR DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS: If you are going to write
reports for an external machine (not the machine you run MSReport on), pick
that machine's configuration BEFORE selecting the attachments tab when you
create a New Report. When you select the attachments tab, files are selected
and setup for whatever machine was chosen on the Problem Details tab. If you
leave <This Machine> selected, MSReport will attach files from your local
machine instead of asking you for files from your external machine. Making
sure you have the correct configuration selected before you visit the
Attachments tab will ensure that you include the proper files with your
report.

SELECTING FILES TO INCLUDE WITH YOUR REPORT: MSReport allows you to add
hidden files to your bug report (like SYSTEM.DAT or USER.DAT). To attach
these files, go to the Attachments tab, press Browse and go to the directory
that contains your hidden file. Type the name in the File Name field and
click OK.

<4>PROBLEMS & WORKAROUNDS
*************************

PROBLEM: On lower resolution displays, the Titles Window starts out maximized
and the restore buttons may be missing.
WORKAROUND: Select 'Cascade' from the Window menu. Also, you may wish to
maximize the MSReport application.

PROBLEM: Sometimes clicking on parts of an window partially obscured by
another window does not cause it be brought the front.
WORKAROUND: Click on the caption (title bar) of the Window to give it the
focus.
