WMVault

WMVault was designed to manage a person's multiple logins and passwords, with the storage of encryted passwords, applying different validation and expiry rules.

If you have multiple systems that you log onto, it can be very difficult coming up with ever more passwords that:

a) you can remember
b) no-one else can guess
c) have different validation rules
d) need to be changed at different intervals

If your passwords are easy to remember, it will be easy for someone to guess them. There are in fact many password dictionaries available, which someone may use to guess your passwords.

If you then use the same passwords on multiple systems, then if someone guesses correctly, they will have access to all of the systems that you log into.

Also, many systems now force you to have a difficult password with validation rules, which make it harder for hackers AND valid users.

If you have ever selected the save password setting available in some software, or just do not use it often enough to remember, it can cause some real problems unless it is a really dumb password eg "password". An example could be a password for a server digital certificate or router, which may only be used after a hard disk failure or machine upgrade. You could store passwords on a piece of paper, but this presents other problems. eg if you lose it, your stuffed, wherever you keep it, it probably isn't secure, and isn't easy to update or make secure backup copies.

WMVault can remove the password management nightmare for you!
