                               FDwin v1.3.1 for Windows95
                               --------------------------

I always found it difficult to access folders since I have so many of them.
So I wrote FDwin to get quick access to folders.

WHAT DOES IT DO?
Type in a folder name and FDwin searches your hard drive (or even multiple
drives) for a folder with that name. If an exact match is found, the folder
is immediately opened. If there is no exact match, or there are multiple
matches, you get a list of folders.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
FDwin keeps its own data file with the names of all your sub-directories.
When you want a folder, it searches that data file so it's lightning
fast. It then uses Windows Explorer (or your favorite file manager) to
display the folder(s).

WHAT DOES IT COST?
One E-mail. That's it! I just want you to register so I know who's using it.

HOW DO I INSTALL IT?
Unzip the file. Put the EXE file anywhere. I keep a shortcut to it on my
desktop and assign a keystroke to that shortcut (I use Ctrl-F12). Then it's
just a keystroke away.

HOW LONG CAN I USE IT BEFORE REGISTERING?
30 days. After that, it will nag you when you start it, but it will still
work. However, please register. It's free. I just want to know who's using
it.

HOW DO I REGISTER?
Fill out REGISTER.TXT and e-mail it to me. I'll send you back a registration
number which you enter into FDwin's Properties. Simple. Fast. Easy.
NEW: Register FDwin online. GoTo http://www.danbbs.dk/~slp/fdwin.html

HOW DO I UNINSTALL IT?
Just find the EXE file (FDWIN.EXE) wherever you put it and delete it. Also
delete its data file (FDWIN.DAT) which is probably in your Windows folder.

                                     MAIN FORM

SEARCHSTRING
Type in your search text here. No wildcards are needed since the search
is always "contained in". So you can find the folder "Windows95" by
typing "win", "95", or even "dows". Right-click SearchString to assign
the currently displayed text to a Search button.

SEARCH BUTTON <ALT-S>
Click this button to search for the specified SearchString.

FULL SEARCH CHECKBOX
When Full Search is checked, a list will always appear, even when you only
get one match. FDwin will list all matching folder names, not just exact
matches. Normally off, this can be turned on in the Properties dialog.

REBUILD BUTTON <ALT-R>
Press to rebuild the data file that FDwin searchs. Note: YOU MUST REBUILD
whenever you create or delete a folder or FDwin will not be able to find it!

CLOSE BUTTON <ALT-C>
Click to "Close" FDwin. If the "Close to tray" option is set in the
Properties dialog, FDwin goes to the system tray. Otherwise, it terminates.

ABOUT BUTTON <ALT-A>
Here is that same screen that appeared upon startup during your trial
period.

PROPERTIES BUTTON <ALT-O>
Click to open the Properties dialog. (See "Properties" below.)

HISTORY BUTTON <ALT-H>
Press this to list your last 10 folders. Folders assigned to Pbuttons are
ignored. (See "Pbuttons" below.) Folders chosen from the history list
move down the list. Folders are never repeated.

PHISTORY BUTTON <ALT-P>
Press this to see what folders are currently assigned to Pbuttons. (See
Pbuttons below.)

SELECT BUTTON <ALT-S>
Click a folder in the list box to mark it, then click this button (or
press <Enter> or <ALT-S> to select that folder. Or just double-click the
folder in the List box. If the List Box is empty, <ALT-S> begins your
search. Otherwise <ALT-S> Selects the folder.

CLEAR HISTORY BUTTON
Press to clear the folder history. This does NOT affect Pbuttons and Sbuttons.

EXIT BUTTON <ALT-X>
Terminates FDwin.

PBUTTONS <ALT-1> through <Alt-5>
Assign folders you frequently use to Pbuttons. First, do a successful search,
then mark a folder in the List Box. Right-click on that folder in the List
Box, and choose "Assign as P1", etc. Pbutton that are already assigned offer
"Replace P1=", etc. To clear a Pbutton, right-click the button itself.

MBUTTONS <ALT-6>, <ALT-7>
Mbuttons work like Pbuttons, BUT hold multiple folders (up to 10). Assign
them in the List Box just like Pbuttons (see above). Right-click an Mbutton
to clear it or copy its contents to the List Box for editing (e.g., to remove
just ONE folder from a list of several folders on that Mbutton).

SBUTTONS <ALT-8>, <ALT-9>, <ALT-0>
Assign search strings you frequently use to Sbuttons. Type in your search
string, then right-click it. Clear Sbuttons by assigning them empty Search
String.

TITLE BAR
The current version number is displayed in the title bar. Once you register,
your name will be there too, otherwise it says [unregistered].

MAIN FORM
Double-click the form to expand or collapse it. Use the Properties dialog to
make it open the way you like it.

=============================================================================

                                THE PROPERTIES DIALOG

AVAILABLE DRIVES LIST
A list of drives which may be added to your searches. Double-click a drive to
add it.

SELECTED DRIVES LIST
The drives which are currently being searched. Double-click a drive to remove
it from the list. (By default, only drive "C" is selected.)

CLOSE FDWIN AFTER OPENING FOLDER CHECK BOX
Check this if you want FDwin to disappear after it opens the selected folder.

FDWIN STAYS IN TRAY WHEN CLOSING CHECK BOX
Check this if you want FDwin to go to the system tray instead of terminating
completely.

DO FULLSEARCH WHEN SEARCHING CHECK BOX
Check this to have FDwin OPEN with this option checked on the main form.
(You can always uncheck it later.)

FDWIN STARTS IN TRAY CHECK BOX
Check this to have FDwin start in the system tray so it's just a click away.
Use this option, together with the "FDwin stays in tray when closing" option,
when you make a shortcut to FDwin and put it in your "Startup" folder. Assign
that shortcut a hot key and FDwin will pop up instantly.

USE A FILEMANAGER WHEN OPENING FOLDERS CHECK BOX
Check this option to make FDwin call a file manager instead of opening
folders with the "This computer" look. FDwin defaults to using Windows'
Explorer program, so it must be in your PATH.

FILEMANAGER
This is the file manager and parameters that FDwin will call. The default is
"explorer.exe /n,/e,".

DATAPATH
This is the place for the FDWIN.DAT file. Default is the Windows folder.

REG NAME, REG KEY
When you register, I'll give you a NAME and KEY to insert here.

FDWIN STARTS WITH SMALL MAINFORM CHECK BOX
Once you're used to Fdwin, you may prefer it to start with a smaller main
window. If so, check this box.

CHANGE FONT
You may use any standard Windows font.

CANCEL <ALT-C>
If you press this after you've made changes, a dialog will appear to make you
confirm losing those changes.

SAVE <ALT-S>
Choose this to save things as they are displayed. If drives have been added
or removed, a rebuild will automatically be done. After saving, FDwin
terminates. You may then reload it, at which time it will read in your
revised settings.
