* Gator Edit RELEASE NOTES *
* Dangerous Cybernetics *

Please read through these notes PRIOR to installing the program.
If this is the first time you're running Gator Edit, Gator will
show you this file just in case you didn't read it. Better
safe than sorry!

* IMPORTANT STUFF *
* Gator Edit 32 is a plain ASCII text editor. It only uses
fixed-pitch fonts (Gator Edit Pro will support full TrueType
as well as graphics, charts, and so on). It is much more powerful
than Notepad, but the basic idea is the same: Gator Edit can be
used like a word processor, but NOT if you want fancy fonts.

* Gator Edit 32 is an advanced software product with what we
think are innovative features you can use not only to simply
"edit text" but you can set up a complete "environment" that will
track what you do, let you pick up EXACTLY where you left off,
and let you manage dozens of open document windows with an
"ease-factor" no other Windows application even approaches.

* If you edit plain text and have many text files on your system,
you should be using Gator Edit. Examine our File Tracker(tm)
system, our Window Manager(tm), our Power File Finder, and
some of the other features no other text editor offers.

* Gator Edit 32 will track what files you edit (up to the last
100) let you search for "lost" files while you work, store an
unlimited number of items in a private clipboard, and many more
things.

* ZD Net rated Gator Edit a five-star download. Windows
Online Reviews said that Gator Edit 1.2 (a less-powerful product)
was the "best text editor for the rest of us." Other reviewers
have rated the app, "having power approaching a full-blown word
processor."

* Gator Edit REQUIRES Windows NT 3.51 with the latest Service
Pack - or - Windows '95 (any release) - or - Windows NT 4.x (or
later). You cannot run Gator Edit 1.5 under Win32S running
Windows 3.1, sorry. Windows 3.1 isn't up to the task of doing
what Gator 32 wants to do. We wish it weren't true, but it is.

* Gator Edit 32 runs best on a *very* fast 486 (or a fast Pentium)
and at least 12MB of RAM for Windows '95, 16MB for NT 3.51, and
20-32 MB of RAM for Windows NT 4.0. You can use lesser machines,
but none of the above operating systems is really happy there.
The more memory you feed these systems, the faster everything goes.

* Gator Edit 32 requires a VGA (or better) screen with Super VGA
of at least 800 x 600 suggested.  It's best at 1024 X 768, you can
really take advantage of the "tool" windows new to 1.5 such as the
File Tracker, Window Manager, and Search results. You can't really
use those well on a VGA screen. High color depth isn't important,
but most of the program's bitmaps will not look "right" on 16
color displays.

* WARNING *
Do not install Gator Edit 32 into a prior 16-bit Gator (1.1, 1.2)
directory. You will gain nothing and make a mess. BUT you CAN download
our free "upgrade" utility in the file GTR15UPG.ZIP. It will open your
GATOR.INI file and import every applicable setting from your version 1.2
installation into the new Gator 32 registry. If you've got Gator Edit
1.2 working just how you like it, we suggest you download this free
tool, you'll be up and running with Gator Edit 32 very quickly.

We'd like to suggest that users of version 1.2 do get and use this handy
tool. It can open any Gator Edit 1.2 INI file (even one not called
GATOR.INI if you're using the multi-config /i:[inifile] switch).

* NETWORK USE *
This Gator 32 copy can be run from a network server in "single user" mode.
A later Gator Edit "Network Edition" release will address shared
usage issues. Don't try to share this version from a server (even
using multiple configurations). We guarantee you WILL be unhappy
with the results. Contact us about the Network Edition if such
a product interests you, we'll put you on a special mailing list
for that product (aimed at corporate users).

* OTHER NOTES *
See VERSION.TXT for complete release notes and important information
about what works, what doesn't work, and what will work later.

See IMPROVED.TXT for notes on what has changed since the 16-bit
release of 1.2 - Gator 32 is a 100% from the ground-up rewrite
to 32 bit code by a new---and we think very gifted---programmer.

See FILES.TXT for notes about other Gator Edit 32 files you can get.
We've got spelling dictionaries in many other languages now, a
free English Thesaurus, and so forth.

Be sure to read the release notes that SETUP shows you, they may
contain things not in this file and vice-versa. Setup will offer to
search for a prior installation, if you've never installed Gator Edit
version 1.5 before, you can save time by telling it "no."
