NOVELL 2.x - 3.x NETWORK BACKUP

To backup Novell 2.x - 3.x servers, use either:
  - Colorado Backup for DOS
    (reboot from DOS)
       or
  - Colorado Backup for Windows
(reboot to DOS, then Windows 3.x)

*DO NOT USE* Colorado Backup for Windows 95 to
back up a Novell 2.x or 3.x server.

  See +++ note below.

NOVELL 4.x NETWORK BACKUP

Colorado Backup for Windows 95 does not support NetWare
4.x server backup. To back up Novell 4.x servers, use
NLM software designed specifically to run on a NetWare
  4.x server.
*DO NOT USE* Colorado Backup for DOS, Colorado Backup
for Windows (Windows 3.x), or Colorado Backup for
Windows 95 to backup a Novell 4.x server.

  See +++ note below.

WINDOWS 95 NETWORK BACKUP
WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS NETWORK BACKUP
Colorado Backup for Windows 95 (CBW95) supports data backup
on Windows 95 Network and Windows for Workgroups networks.
IMPORTANT: CBW95 will back up *ONLY* the Windows 95
  registry of the PC to which the tape drive is attached;
the Windows 95 registry of a remote PC will not be backed
  up.

REMEMBER: Certain Windows 95 system files will always appear "in use."

FOR BEST RESULTS: When backing up peer to peer workstations,
we recommend that separate machines be backed up one at a
time using Colorado Backup for Windows 95 ver. 3.11.

  See +++ note below.

WINDOWS NT NETWORK BACKUP
Colorado Backup for Windows 95 does not support Windows NT
server backup. To back up NT servers, use:
  - Microsoft's built-in Windows NT drivers, or the drivers
    included with your tape drive
  - other appropriate 3rd party backup software
To backup Windows 95 workstations from the server, use
  Microsoft's Windows 95 built-in ARCserve Client software
(if the appropriate server application is installed on
  the server).

  See +++ notes below.

POWER-MANAGEMENT (GREEN) COMPUTERS

If your computer has a power-management feature in the BIOS that
shuts off your computer after xx minutes since the last keyboard
input, you may experience problems with certain operations that
  exceed the time limit.

Turn off the power-management feature when:
  - running a long operation, such as formatting a tape
  - running a full-system backup
  - running a scheduled operation, such as an unattended
backup in the middle of the night

Check your computer's manual to find out how to turn off or
change the time limit of the power-management feature.

SCHEDULER OPERATION TIP

When a scheduled backup job is initiated while Colorado Backup
is already running, you will receive a message that the backup
failed because only one instance of Colorado Backup can be run
  at a time.

To avoid receiving this error when scheduling jobs, insure that
Colorado Backup is not running at the times you specify for
  scheduled backups.

PRINTING WHEN USING AN HP COLORADO EXTERNAL (PARALLEL PORT) TAPE DRIVE

For best results, refrain from printing while a tape operation
is in progress on an HP Colorado external product. Printing is
not recommended during any tape operations when using a printer
that is connected to the back of your tape drive (e.g.
  HP Colorado 5GBe).

FLOPPY TAPE DRIVES AND COMPATIBILITY WITH A BOOTABLE LS-120

There is a problem when trying to connect a floppy based tape
drive (e.g. HP Colorado T1000, T3000) to the floppy controller
on a machine that boots using the LS-120 Drive as its A: drive.
The issue is an operating system incompatibility with Windows 95
(versions 950, 950A, 950B). The problem is that Windows 95 is
hard coded to have an A: drive on a floppy controller and causes
a resource conflict when this condition is not met.

When you boot with the LS-120, Windows 95 reports that there is
a device problem with the floppy controller (even though there
isn't a problem). Windows 95 then does not allow any other devices
to use the resources that the floppy controller is using. When
Colorado Backup tries to detect a tape drive, such as the HP Colorado
T1000 or T3000) on the floppy controller, it will be unsuccessful.

Workaround:

Attach the drive to a high speed floppy controller like an FC-20.

BIOS COMPATIBILITY ISSUES WITH THE COLORADO 5GB

  - HP Pavilion 7125 (BIOS version 4.05 - 22-Jul-96) does not allow
the HP Colorado 5GB to be configured as a slave, when it is the
only device on a secondary IDE controller (i.e. no Master).
To fix this problem, the following may be done:
When there is a CD-ROM and HP Colorado 5GB on the same IDE
controller (CD as Master, Colorado 5GB as Slave):
    1) Enter the BIOS, (press F1 at blue HP screen when starting up)
    2) Select IDE Adapter 1 Master->Setting
    3) The "IDE Adapter 1 Master" has 3 settings:
          "AUTO"
          "CD"
          "NONE"
Select CD by using the plus/minus keys.
    4) Now select IDE Adapter 1 Slave->Setting. Set this option
to either CD or AUTO using the plus/minus keys.
    5) Save this configuration and exit.

When there is only an HP Colorado 5GB (no other device)
    (Colorado 5GB as Master):
    1) Enter the BIOS, (press F1 at blue HP screen when starting up)
    2) Select IDE Adapter 1 Master->Setting
    3) The "IDE Adapter 1 Master" has 3 settings:
          "AUTO"
          "CD"
          "NONE"
Select CD by using the plus/minus keys.
    4) Now select IDE Adapter 1 Slave->Setting. Set this option
to NONE using the plus/minus keys.
    5) Save this configuration and exit.

  - HP NetServer 4d/66LE (BIOS 2.04.01), if a SCSI only system,
won't activate the motherboard IDE controller until the following
    actions are done:
    1) Boot from Setup floppy diskette (might be labeled "System
Configuration" or "EISA Configuration Utility" or "System
       Administration Manager").
    2) Select "Configure Computer".
    3) Select "Run Configuration Utility".
    4) Select "View or Edit Details".
    5) Find "Hard Disk Drives" and select "Drive D" (should be set to
       "Not Installed or SCSI").
    6) Select "Choose from a list of drive types".
    7) Select "Type 01".
    8) Hit F10 to exit.
    9) Select "Save and Exit", followed by "Save and Restart". Hit
Enter a few times to get through "Are you sure you want to
save?" and "Flip the CMOS UPDATE disable DIP switch on
       Motherboard" questions.
   10) Reboot machine

NOTE: CMOS UPDATES MIGHT BE DISABLED BY A DIP SWITCH ON THE MOTHERBOARD!

  - AMI BIOS "1.00.07.DQ0T U" (seen on Gateway 2000 P5-200) - does
not allow the ISA card interrupts to reach the host when the
"MS-DOS with ICU" option is selected. To fix this problem, the
following actions need to be performed:
    1) Press F1 to enter BIOS
    2) Select Advanced-> PnP Configuration -> Boot w/ PnP OS
    3) "Boot with PnP OS" has three options:
          "MS-DOS with ICU",
          "Other OS", and
          "Windows95 (TM)"
    4) Selecting either "Other OS" or "Windows95 (TM)" allows the
interrupts to be received by the host software.

  - AWARD BIOS v 4.51P6 (or 4.51PG) (seen on Competition Computer) -
does not allow the ISA card interrupts to reach the host when in
its default configuration. Perform the following steps to alleviate
    the problem:
    1) Enter BIOS (press DEL on startup)
    2) Go to the PNP/PCI Configuration section
    3) Find the desired interrupt for the card, change its setting from
        "PCI/ISA PnP" to "Legacy ISA"
    4) Save settings and reboot
