WHAT IS IT ?

Tray Widget was written to enhance some of the less handy features of
the Windows95-NT desktop. This is accomplished by providing the user
with additional and more accessible control of selected system
functions. The program was developed primarily to inhibit your screen
saver; avoiding annoying screen saver interruptions during long
processes e.g. downloading files, installing software or using disk
maintenance utilities. Several features have since been added to
assist you in your Windows use.

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

The program places an icon in your system tray next to your clock.
This icon is used for displaying the current screen saver status and
accessing the programs pop up menu. The menu Screen Saver options are
Properties, Enable/Disable, Run Immediately and Suspend for one, two
or three hours. If disk maintenance programs are running Tray Widget
will detect them and auto-inhibit the screen saver. The program will
also allow you to select a drive and directory and start a DOS session
there, clear your document history folder, and add shortcuts to launch
from the pop up menu.

WHAT'S NEW ?

Version 2.5
This version has been optimized for use with Windows98-NT5 or
Windows95-NT4 with the new Internet Explorer GUI upgrade. Version
remains backwards compatible with NT-4 all versions of Windows95.
Several minor bugs fixed this release.

Version 2.0
When you use Windows Scan Disk (error-checking) or Defragment your
drives Tray Widget will automatically suspend your screen saver for
you. This prevents unneeded writes or reads to/from the hard drive,
causing the disk utility to restart. This version also addresses a
minor bug found in the previous version.

INSTALLATION:

Installing from the ZIP Archive File (TW9825.ZIP)

Create a temporary directory on your system e.g. c:\temp. Extract the
Archive file (TW9825.ZIP) into the temporary directory you have created.
Run the setup file (SETUP.EXE) this will launch the Tray Widget Setup
Wizard. The wizard will ask you several questions, allowing you to
change the default install path and whether or not start menu shortcuts
are to be added. Once Setup is complete you may delete the temporary
directory containing the installation files.

Installing from the Self Installing File (TW9825.EXE)

To Install Tray Widget simply run TW9825.EXE from anywhere on your
computer. The file will extract compressed program files and place
them into a temporary directory. Once this has been accomplished the
Setup Wizard will launch automatically asking you several questions,
allowing you to change the default install path and whether or not
start menu shortcuts are to be added. Once the software installation
is complete the install program will remove all of the unneeded
installation files from your system.

SYSTEM TRAY ICONS

Tray Widget places an icon in your system tray next to your clock.
This icon is used for displaying the systems screen saver status.
There are three states your screen saver may be in while using the
Tray Widget: Enabled (on), Disabled (off) and Suspended meaning
disabled for a predetermined amount of time. Once this timer has
elapsed the Tray Widget will return screen saver control to the
Windows system activity timer.

Icon Color Definitions:

Disabled   =  Red
Enabled    =  Green
Suspended = Red with a small clock symbol

Status may also be displayed by placing your mouse pointer over the
tray icon, by doing so activates a small popup message. This feature
is most useful while running in suspended mode for determining at what
time your screen saver will reactivate.

3.0

POP UP MENU FUNCTIONS:

{Toggle Screen Saver}
Switches the screen saver status between enabled and disabled.

{Run Screen Saver Now}
Starts immediately regardless of the current screen saver status.

{Suspend SS for 1 hours}
{Suspend SS for 2 hours}
{Suspend SS for 3 hours}
These menu entries will disable the screen saver for 1-3 hours. The
tray icon title will inform you at what time the screen saver will
become active on mouse over. After the timer has elapsed the screen
saver control is returned to Windows and its activity monitor timer
will begin.

{Screen Saver Properties}
Opens the "Display Properties" dialog window, used for changing your
screen saver options.

{Clear Document History}
Removes document shortcuts from the start menu "Documents" folder.

{MS-DOS Prompt Browser}
Opens a directory browser allowing the you to select the drive and
path for opening a DOS command prompt. This is a real time saver
especially if you're connected to a large network or have several
drives you work from.

{Add Menu Shortcuts}
Opens an Explorer window allowing you to add or remove shortcuts to
launch from the Tray Widget popup menu.

Adding a shortcut:
Select "Add Menu Shortcuts" from the icon pop up menu. Once the
Explorer window opens select: "File", "New" and then "Shortcut" a
dialog window will guide you though the rest. Note: Tray Widget will
only include shortcuts into the pop up menu do not move programs into
the "Menu Shortcuts" folder.

REPLACING DEFAULT TRAY ICONS

NOTE: The following section assumes user to have moderate computer
skills.
The default tray status icons may be replaced with any (.ico) format
icon (32X32 or 16X16 pixels). Tip: smaller icons will have a better
appearance as the icon is limited by system trays physical size.

File Names for the Default Icons:
SON.ICO = screen saver enabled
SOFF.ICO = screen saver disabled
SSUP.ICO = screen saver suspended

Steps for replacing the Tray Widget icons:
a) Close Tray Widget 98
b) Backup Default Icons (example rename son.ico to son.bak)
c) Copy new Icons to the same directory as the default icons.
d) Rename new icons (example rename mynew.ico to son.ico)

Note: Icons must be named exactly as the above default icons.
