Welcome to Postage $aver v3.5.6c for Windows!

To find out if this is the latest version, and to get other information about bulk mailing, check out our web site at http://www.scotthochberg.com/psinfo.html

Here's what's new for v3.5.6:

POSTAGE $AVER NOW HANDLES FIRST CLASS BARCODED LETTERS!

The most significant change to this version of Postage $aver is the addition of first class automated letters as a sorting option. (This also includes first class automated postcards.) We have had many requests for this feature, and we hope you like it. To use the first class option, simply choose it on the Mail Type window under the Settings menu. Note that there is no nonprofit discount for first class mail.

CITY/STATE CHECKER ELIMINATED

With the requirement that all mailing lists be CASS certified, it seemed no longer worthwhile to maintian the city/state checking feature, that sometimes irritated users by issuing a large number of "questionable" notes. We hope this deletion will not cause a problem for anyone. Postage $aver will still exclude zip codes that do not have the correct number of digits, or that correspond to nonexistent three-digit areas.

MAILER INFORMATION AND MAIL TYPE SETTINGS NOW DISPLAYED AT THE START OF EACH SORT
(effective with release 3.5.6b)

Many of the questions we receive about apparent incorrect sorting turn out to be the result of incorrect settings on the mailer information screen or mail type screen. To encourage users to check these settings for accuracy before sorting, Postage $aver now displays these screens each time "Sort One List" or "Sort Several Lists" is chosen from the Sort menu. This feature can be turned on or off by changing a setting on the Preferences screen on the Settings menu.

SCF BUG FIXED

The previous version had a bug that crashed the program if the SCF entry option was selected when using certain zip codes as the mailer's home zip. We have fixed this problem (we hope). Thanks to those who reported it and thank you for your patience in getting it fixed.

DBASE FILES NOW CAN BE READ DIRECTLY

Postage $aver for Windows can now read dBase (.dbf) files without needing to convert them to ascii text files.

POSTAGE CALCULATIONS NOT ROUNDED UNTIL TOTAL

In accordance with USPS requirements, fractional pennies are now retained to 2 extra decimal places until the postage lines are totalled. The extra fractional cents are shown in the rate chart on the front page of the sort report.

CLOSE PROGRAM BUG FIXED

When closing Postage $aver from Windows 3.5's "close" button, the program appeared to close but remained in memory. This has been corrected.

OVERFLOW TRAYS AND SACKS NOW SPLIT

In previous versions, if there were several trays or sacks for a specific destination, they were listed as a single listing. In version 3.5.6, all mail is sorted to a specific tray or sack, so the same destination may appear on several tray/sack labels.

TRAYS DESIGNATED AS 1' OR 2'

To comply with specifications for the USPS qualification report, Postage $aver now indicates the tray length if standard mm trays are used for letter-sized mail. Tray type is selected on the Mail Type window.
