NEW FEATURES

---------------------
---------------------

ConfigSafe 1.05.03

Registry Handling
Provides option to sort Registry keys and values.
Allows handling of REG_MULTI_SZ values.

Current Control Set
A current control set filter option has been added that
enables the differences between the current boot and previous
boot (when using the "Last Known Good" mechanism) to be filtered.
In particular, the registry hierarchy below keys having the
format of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\System\\ControlSetxxx (where each
"x" represents a number or letter) will be filtered. The differences
will be captured in the snapshot but not displayed.

Snapshots
Allow splash screen to be updated during processing
of snapshots.
Updated handling of initial snapshot to fix problem
created by the SYSDIFF utility.

Bug Fixes

ConfigSafe will now display the contents of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\PErflib\\009.
Previous versions reported error 122 encountered by
RegQueryInfoKey when attempting this function.

Restore function will work regardless of the ConfigSafe
installation location.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Hardware contains volatile information and
will be tracked for differences but not restored.

ConfigSafe 1.05.02

Autochk.exe has been updated with a version which will
attempt to take a snapshot every 24 hours. Autochk.exe
minimizes to the system tray when it is running. The
configcheck dll is loaded by autocheck when a snapshot
is attempted and then is unloaded until another snapshot
is attempted to minimize system resource requirements.
Note: Systems which are configured to have a snapshot taken
each time Windows starts will have a snapshot performed each
time autocheck attempts a snapshot.

Two entries have been added to the cfgsafe.ini
file, in the [cfgsafe] section.

"AutochkTimer"=24
The number of hours between attempts by autocheck to take
a snapshot of the system. A value of 0 will cause autocheck
to terminate after attempting a snapshot. The default is
to perform a snapshot every 24 hours.

"AutochkCanStop"=1
If set to 1 the autocheck tray icon will pop up a message
box if the user issues a mouse click on the tray icon. The
message box will allow the user to terminate autocheck.
If set to 0 the autocheck tray icon will not display a
terminate program message box. The default is 1, to
allow the user to terminate autocheck.

Miscellaneous Changes
Allow horizontal scrolling of entries in list boxes.
Only launch text editor when a file entry is double-clicked
if the "Now" snapshot is selected in the "Changes Ending" field.
Disable appropriate fields when no profiles and snapshots exist.

ConfigSafe 1.05.01

In addition to correcting known anomalies, ConfigSafe v1.05
provides password security for the RESTORE feature,
minimize to Task Bar, icon flags designating scheduled
and imported snapshots, and introduces the EXPORT and
IMPORT features.

PASSWORD SECURITY FOR RESTORE

The RESTORE feature now provides password security. A
password can be set or reset by clicking on the
MANAGE Snapshot, Set Password button. The current master
password is "7129WXRV" which can be used if a user's
password is forgotten. RESTORE Password Security can be
disabled by placing the following line in the CFGSAFE.INI
file, [CFGSAFE] section:
ControlValue3=173

MINIMIZE TO TASK BAR

When minimized, ConfigSafe now displays as an item on the Task Bar.

ICON FLAG DESIGNATORS

The Manage Snapshot window now includes icons to designate scheduled
and imported snapshots. When a scheduled snapshot is highlighted,
the autocheck icon appears, when an imported snapshot is highlighted,
the import icon appears.

EXPORT and IMPORT FEATURES

EXPORT enables the user to save ConfigSafe snapshots to
local and networked drives, or to diskette. In other words,
the valuable information stored in a ConfigSafe snapshot may
be "exported" from the application to alternate locations
for safekeeping or for comparison of configurations between
systems.
Note: some snapshots may be too large to fit on a single
diskette. If that is the case, the export to diskette option
will not be available for those snapshots.

IMPORT allows the user to load previously exported snapshots
back into the ConfigSafe application.

Installing ConfigSafe NT
------------------------
------------------------
------------------------

-----------------------------------------------
********* SECURITY REQUIREMENTS ***********
-----------------------------------------------

Required Privileges:
-------------------
ConfigSafe NT requires a certain level of
privileges to work properly on a system.
These privileges differ upon the access level to
the software. The user profile must include the
following privileges to perform the indicated functions:

  For automatic snapshots:
"Back up files and directories privileges"

To Install or Run ConfigSafe NT:
"Back up files and directories privileges"
    "Managing and auditing security log"
    "Restore files and directories"

Typically, by default, members of the Administrators
group will have the Rights necessary to perform
all the ConfigSafe functions. By default, members
of the Backup Operators group will have the access
rights necessary to perform the automatic snapshots.

Make sure any users which will have snapshots taken
on a system have the necessary "Back up files and
directories privileges". Otherwise, a snapshot simply
  will not be taken.

-----------------------------------------------
           Installation Procedure
-----------------------------------------------
Installing ConfigSafe onto your computer will copy the
software to the designated directory and create a snapshot
(capture your configuration) of your system. ConfigSafe
requires approximately 1.5 Mb of disk space for the software.
Capturing configuration data requires a bit more. The recommended
settings for ConfigSafe NT are 10-15Mb of disk space.

Installation Procedure
----------------------

1. Insert the installation diskette into your diskette drive.

2. Run the INSTALL.EXE program.

3. You will be asked to select a directory to which the ConfigSafe
software will be copied. You may choose the default directory
   or enter a different location.
