1. INTRODUCTION
==============================
This IntelliSync for PalmPilot release supports Windows 95 and
Windows NT 4.0.

For important information about how IntelliSync works with the
PC application(s) you are using, make sure to read the appropriate
SUPPORTED SYSTEMS topic(s) in the IntelliSync on-line Help
system.

It is also advisable to read the PalmPilot "Supported Systems" topic.

==============================
2. PREREQUISITES
==============================
Before installing IntelliSync for PalmPilot, you must have installed the
PalmPilot Desktop application that comes with every PalmPilot device. If
you have not done so, please be sure to complete the PalmPilot Desktop
installation before proceeding with the IntelliSync installation.

PalmPilot Desktop installation is essential because it takes care of
installing all the base components required to run the PalmPilot HotSync
Manager. During the installation of PalmPilot Desktop, the HotSync Manager
is automatically placed in your Startup program group. The HotSync Manager
must be running on your PC in order to initiate synchronization with any
application.

Some personal information managers come with their own PalmPilot
connection software. This software must be uninstalled before installing
IntelliSync.

==============================
3. INSTALLATION
==============================
Prior to installing this version of IntelliSync for PalmPilot, you
should uninstall any previous versions. Previous versions will not
synchronize properly once you install IntelliSync for PalmPilot 2.0.

To install IntelliSync for PalmPilot from floppy disks, place Disk 1
in your disk drive and run setup.exe to initiate the installer program.
To install IntelliSync for PalmPilot from a web self extracting
executable, run setup.exe from the Disk1 subdirectory.

When prompted to enter a serial number, type the serial number found on
your registration card.

The installation program will search your system to locate the directory
containing the PalmPilot Desktop. If it is unable to find PalmPilot
Desktop, the installer will give an error message and exit.

This product cannot be installed into the PalmPilot Desktop install
directory.

Once you have successfully installed IntelliSync, be sure to run the
IntelliSync Configure program at least once to select the applications
and data files to be used for synchronization.

WARNING: This install will overwrite existing field mappings that you
have created in a previous version of IntelliSync. Please write down
any field mappings that you wish to keep, as they will have to be re-
created.

==============================
4. KNOWN ANOMALIES
==============================
You should be aware of the following anomalies, which may apply when
using either IntelliSync or the PalmPilot Desktop.

The Private records on your PalmPilot are always synchronized with
your PC application, even when you have entered a Password on the
PalmPilot to protect Private records. However, you can use a
pre-existing filter to exclude private data when synchronizing between
your PIM and your PalmPilot (if your PIM has a Private field). See
the on-line help system topic Filtering Data: Special Notes.

When the Cancel button is pressed in the HotSync progress dialog, the
synchronization operation in progress is allowed to finish. HotSync
interprets the Cancel request as "perform no further synchronizations
beyond the current one." HotSync will display a "Cleaning up" message,
but wait for the synchronization to complete. If the current
synchronization operation involves substantial data, the time between
pressing Cancel and HotSync responding can be significant.

When a recurring To Do item is transferred from a PC application to
the PalmPilot, a maximum of 3 individual To Do items are created
on the PalmPilot, each having a different due date corresponding to
the recurring pattern defined in your PC application. Refer to on-line
Help for more information.

==============================
5. TO DO PRIORITIES
==============================
The PalmPilot can accept priority codes in the range 1-5. It
is advisable to use compatible priority values in your PC application,
if possible. This will avoid priority transformations during
synchronization. If a priority code greater than 5 is transferred to the
PalmPilot, the code will be set to 5. When codes are transferred
in the other direction they are similarly translated. This disparity
in code values is generally benign, and will not result in sync
conflicts. However, if you change an item in which a
priority code has been translated, the modified code will be
reflected in the other system when the data is next synchronized.
Refer to the Help System for more information.

==============================
6. FILTERING
==============================
If you are using a screen resolution of 640 x 480, you will not be
able to see all of the Outlook Address Book fields on the selection
menu when creating a filter condition. To see all of the fields, you
must switch to a screen resolution of 800 x 600 or higher.

==============================
7. ACT! 3 Notes
==============================
* If you cannot sync to ACT! 3 because of the following message:

  "Error: Could not find the ACT! application.
  Please contact Symantec if your version of ACT! is not 3.0.6 or
  greater"

  ...try these 2 things:

  1) Ensure that you have version 3.0.7 by going to the Help | About
  ACT! dialog and checking the version number. If you do not have
  this version of ACT!, run the LiveUpdate function or download the
  upgrade from Symantec's web site. If you already installed the
  upgrade, contact Symantec technical support.

  2) Run ACTREG.EXE from the ACT! 3 directory to register the
  ACT OLE object.

* There is a known issue regarding updates to the Last Name field in the
  Pilot Address Book being ignored. This can occur once you have synced
  the ACT! 3 Contacts with the PalmPilot Address Book, and you then change the
  Last Name of the contact on the PalmPilot. IntelliSync will say that it is
  going to change the Last Name field in the ACT record, but the change never
  occurs.

==============================
8. GroupWise Notes
==============================
* The GroupWise 5.1 translator needs a Novell system patch to
  synchronize properly. The most recent patch can be downloaded from
  the following Novell web site:

  http://support.novell.com/misc/patlst.htm#gw

  Please contact your system administrator to install this patch.

==============================
9. Lotus Organizer 97 GS Notes
==============================
* This version of IntelliSync supports Lotus Organizer 97 GS as a stand
  alone PIM and as a PIM integrated with Lotus Notes. We do not support
  direct synchronization with Lotus Notes at this time.

* Organizer 97 GS/Notes operates in a very different manner than the
  standard PIM installation and requires different setup parameters for
  optimum performance. Please refer to the on-line help for details.

==============================
10. Meeting Maker Notes
==============================
* IntelliSync only supports Meeting Maker activities. Meeting Maker will
  not appear as a selection in the Choose Translator Dialog for the Address
  Book, To Do List, or Memo Pad sections.

==============================
11. NetManage Ecco Notes
==============================
* IntelliSync for PalmPilot is not compatible with ECCO 4.0's own
  PalmPilot synchronization application. You must uninstall ECCO's
  synchronization application before installing IntelliSync for
  PalmPilot. If you have already installed IntelliSync for PalmPilot,
  you must uninstall it, then uninstall ECCO's application, and
  reinstall IntelliSync for PalmPilot. Refer to the ECCO topic under
  "Supported Systems" in on-line Help for more information.

==============================
12. Microsoft Outlook Notes
==============================
* It is recommended that you start Outlook before performing a
  synchronization. This may prevent your PalmPilot from timing out if
  it normally takes a while for you to start up Outlook.

* In the translator Options dialog, you can specify any default folder
  name to sync with. If you have the same folder name on your server
  and in your personal folders, the folder on the server will be
  synchronized. You can also specify an explicit path of the folder
  to sync with. For example, if you want to sync to the Contacts
  folder in your Personal Folders, enter the Default Folder Name in
  the Options dialog as "Personal Folders\Contacts".

==============================
13. MS Schedule +
==============================
* The Choose Translator Dialog lists the following two
  choices for Schedule+:

   MS Schedule+ Browse File
   MS Schedule+ Default

  If you are using Schedule+ 7.0, you must select
  MS Schedule+ Default. If you are using Schedule+ 7.0a
  or 7.5, you can select either one. If you select
  the first choice, IntelliSync automatically
  synchronizes the last-used or active file.
  If you select the second choice, you are required
  to specify a file.

* File selection is only possible if you are using
  Schedule+ 7.0a or 7.5, and Schedule+ Browse File
  is selected in the Choose Translator dialog.
  If you are using Schedule+ 7.0, you must select
  Schedule+ Default in the Choose Translator dialog,
  which disables the File Name box (file selection
  is not possible). The active or last-used file
  is synchronized automatically. If you attempt
  to synchronize a Schedule+ 7.0 file using the
  Schedule+ Browse File selection, an error will
  occur during synchronization.
