 Requirements
--------------

IBM PC or compatible (386, 486, Pentium, or better)
Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 95 or later, NT 4.x or later

You also need these Microsoft Windows system DLLs:

mfc42.dll - MS Foundation Classes DLL
(size: 940,304, date: 9 June 1997 or later)
      msvcrt.dll - C-runtime DLL
(size: 280,576, date: 9 May 1997 or later)

The complete installation package of Alarm++ for Windows will install
these files for you.

It is also preferable for you to have this Microsoft Windows system DLL:

comctl32.dll - MS Common Controls DLL
                     (version: 4.70 or later,
available with Internet Explorer 3.0 or later)

If you have an older version of COMCTL32.DLL and do not want to update
it, Alarm++ for Windows will still work. The only change in behavior
will be that the date control on the General property page will not
appear. Instead, it will be a simple static text field that shows the
date you select on the Repeat property page. You will still be able to
select a date on the Repeat page.

 Install

Complete Installation Package

   1. Create a temporary folder.
   2. Unzip the ZIP file into the temporary folder.
   3. Run Setup.exe and follow the instructions.

If you are updating a previous installation, be sure to select the
existing Alarm++ folder when Setup prompts you for an installation
      folder.

Simple Installation Package

We recommend downloading and installing the complete package -- it is
more user-friendly and includes some required Windows system DLLs.

   First time installation:

   1. Create a folder for Alarm++ for Windows (e.g., c:\Program Files\Alarm).
   2. Unzip the ZIP file into the folder.
   3. Create a shortcut to Alarm.exe or to your alarm database files in your
Startup group or on your desktop, wherever.

   Installing an update:

   1. Unzip the ZIP file into the Alarm++ installation folder.

Note: Only complete Step 2 if you have installed the Complete
Installation Package of Alarm++ for Windows 4.83 or later.
If you have not installed Complete Installation Package of
4.83 or later, do not move the calendar.ocx file into the
         "System" folder.

   2. If the Alarm++ installation folder has a "System" folder in it,
MOVE the calendar.ocx file from the Alarm++ installation folder
into the "System" folder (overwriting the calendar.ocx file that
      is there).

There should be only one calendar.ocx file, and it should be in the
      Alarm++ installation folder.

      For example:

         c:\Program Files\Alarm\
                                 alarm.exe
                                 alarm.hlp
                                 calendar.ocx (A)
                                 ...

         c:\Program Files\Alarm\System\
                                 calendar.ocx (B)

Move calendar.ocx (A) into the "System" folder and overwrite
      calendar.ocx (B).

Using Alarm++ documents created by previous versions of Alarm++ for Windows:

Alarm++ for Windows version 3.00 and later automatically convert older
alarm database files when you open them for the first time.

However, if you have data from Alarm++ version 1.x or 2.x (16-bit), you will
need to manually enter your alarms again. Newer versions of Alarm++ cannot
read the data stored in the alarm.ini file.
