1. INTRODUCTION
============================================

Thank you for downloading the ECware Pro 3.0 60-day evaluation.

ECware Pro 3.0 is Electronic Commerce Software for Windows 95 and
Windows NT and provides a dynamic catalog for shoppers, a robust set of
management tools for the merchant and full integration with the
CyberCash Secure Internet Payment service and Microsoft Active Server
Pages. ECware Pro 3.0 supports multiple catalogs on a single server and
shares common resources providing greater efficiency. ECware Pro 3.0
can also reside on a separate server than CyberCash for a distributed
application environment or to take advantage of third-party CyberCash
    services.

The ECware Pro 3.0 60-day evaluation is a full version with no
limitations and expires 60 days from the installation date. Upon
expiring, ECware Pro 3.0 will still work for shoppers, however,
merchants will not be able to access the management tools until a
software key is purchased from HyperMedia Corp. The toll free sales line
for purchasing the software key for ECware Pro 3.0 is 888-597-8008. The
cost for ECware Pro is $595 for each catalog.

2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
============================================

    - Windows 95* or Windows NT version 4.0
    - Service Pack 3 for Windows NT
    - Intel Pentium class processor or compatible
    - 32MB of System Memory
    - 10MB of free disk space and ~ 5MB per Catalog
    - Web server software installed**
    - ASP Compatible Web Server***
    * CyberCash is not available for Windows 95. Additional run-time files
required for Windows 95. Get them at www.ecware.com/support.
** IIS 3.0/4.0 or WebSite Pro 3.0 are recommended.
*** IIS 3.0 or greater and Website Pro 3.0 both support ASP. ASP is
    not required to run ECware.

3. GETTING STARTED
============================================

After setup is complete and Windows restarts:

    1) Check Security:
Make sure the CGI Path you specified during Setup is secure from
access. You must not be able to get a directory listing from the
Web or any access other than running an executable. For IIS. turn
Execute on and read off. For WebSite, setup Standard CGI.

    2) Visit the Demo Site:
A working demonstration of ECware, including ASP is available
locally on your server using a Web browser.
Type http://yourdomain/ECware/ to invoke the demo site.

NOTE: If the Demo Site address cannot be found by your browser,
create an alias for the \ECware folder. This folder was added under
your executable directory by setup. The alias name must be
"http://yourdomain/ECware". *This alias is required in order to
run ECware. If the Demo Site doesn't work, this is why. The alias
is configured automatically if using O'Reilly WebSite or Microsoft
       Internet Information Server.
If the demo site doesn't work, neither will any other "live"
       catalogs.

    3) To access the Remote Admin site:
Visit https://yourdomain/ECadmin/###/ECadmin.exe (where ### is the
Catalog Number). This site must be secured using your Web Server
software and must be configured as an executable directory/path.
For IIS. turn Execute on and read off. For WebSite, setup Standard
       CGI.

NOTE: If the Admin Site address cannot be found by your browser,
create an alias for the \ECdmin folder. This folder was added under
your executable directory by setup. The alias name must be
"http://yourdomain/ECadmin". *This alias is required in order
to run the admin program. If admin can't be found, this is why. The
alias is configured automatically if using O'Reilly WebSite or
       Microsoft Internet Information Server.

    - When using the CyberCash Wizard with IIS 3.0, make sure the
c:\smps-2.1.4-nt\merchants\ directory and all sub-directories allow
full access to the IUSR_YOURMACHINE account, or writes to the
directories required to create the scripts will not be performed.

4. UNINSTALLING ECWARE
============================================

You can completely remove ECware from your system using the uninstall
program located under the Start button on the Task Bar. Look under
Start - Programs - ECware. More mini-docs and a global management
utility can also be found at this location.

CAUTION: Any database or configuration information may also be removed.
If you are attempting to uninstall for an upgrade that requires a full
uninstall, backup any information you wish to preserve before running
the uninstall program. This can be done by renaming the /ECware and
/ECsecure directories to /ECwareBak and ECsecureBak and then changing
them back to normal after installing a newer version.

NEW IN VERSION 3.0 RELEASE 1 - 12/15/97

    - New Documentation!
    - The UPS Online Quick Cost Calculator(TM) is integrated into ECware
and allows for instant shipping costs over the Internet by connecting
to the UPS site. Use Shipping Manager to activate.
    - Email Notification/Confirmation notifies merchants of incoming orders
and sends a custom order confirmation to shoppers.
    - Basic Authentication is now used to access the admin sites. This is
to maintain compatibility with Microsoft's new version of IIS (4.0),
which does not allow registry updates from a browser.
    - Active Server Pages kit. Access the ECware catalog database directly
and inject live data into your web pages using ASP.
    - New OrderMgr integrates even better with CyberCash and operates based
on "collections". Better printing and database control.
    - Orders now show CyberCash Action codes and AVS codes, with descriptions
    of each.
    - All CyberCash scripting is upgraded to support SMPS 2.1.4.
    - Fax/Mail purchase method can now be disabled.

restricted, eliminating a 500 server error which occurred rarely, with
    long fields.
    - Complete re-write

CHANGES IN RELEASE 2.02 - 11/04/97

    - New Cookie Manager shows a list of ECware-related cookies for
    multiple admin situations.
    - Cookies are automatically re-assigned when administering multiple
merchants by using the /Logon selector.
    - The payload system now passes the correct filename to the client,
eliminating the need for the shopper to rename the file before saving it.
    - Bug fixed in the ECcardin.cgi script, which was blocking "authcapture"
    merchants. ECcardin.cgi is a CyberCash-related script used for non-wallet
    credit card purchases.
    - Bug fixed in Product Manager, which caused the International Shipping
field to produce zero out the value.
    - The "000" CyberCash merchant folder and scripts for the demo catalog
are now available in the /ECsecure/CyberCash directory.
    - Bug fixed in the payload delivery system, which was not correctly
identifying the proper mime type for payloads and causing the file
contents to dump to the screen on some browsers.
    - Bug fixed in the install program, which was not copying the detailed
product page for the gold watch in the demo catalog.

CHANGES IN RELEASE 2.01 - 09/18/97

    - Private Labels available for ISPs and Shopping Malls
    - Cookie bug fixed. Some cookies used by other vendors were causing
    conflicts with ECware cookies.
    - Foreign Shipping bug fixed. When using "No Shipping" or "Call for
Shipping" modes for foreign shipping, a required shipping value of
    "0.00" was not being enforced.
    - The secure payload delivery system for soft goods now includes
instructions and a new filename for the executable to help the process
    along.
    - Software key is reduced in size to only 90KB and can be sent by email
    immediately after purchase.
    - CyberCash users can now disable the wallet choice so shoppers will not
be able to choose the wallet method. This feature was highly recommended
by merchants. When shoppers use the "credit card" method and enter their
credit card, CyberCash will verify the credit card and issue an auth #
or a decline with a reason. The wallet is not required to use CyberCash.
    - invoice.cgi and cardin.cgi have been renamed to ECinvice.cgi and
ECcardin.cgi to prevent possible conflicts with other applications
    using the same CyberCash resources.

CHANGES IN RELEASE 2.0 - 7/08/97

    - All New Admin Site! Many new features! Whole new Image! Easier
    browsing and quicker access.
    - Dynamic Search Engine. Use a search form to allow shoppers to find
exactly what they want. The search engine returns information using DCP
    technology.
    - ECpayload pay-per-file soft goods support. New soft goods delivery
system allows shoppers to buy multiple hard and soft goods at the same
time. Soft goods are delivered using DCP technology and a payload
gateway program that keeps information safe from unwanted access.
CyberCash is required to use ECpayload.
    - Suspend Shipping mode allows for specific items to be excluded from
    shipping.
    - New Single Catalog version (ECcatalog) for merchants with dedicated
    servers.
    - Graphics for default DCP mode are pre-named to avoid confusion.
    - Catalog database now resides in an area accessible to merchants with
proper access rights. This allows for updating database directly for
    global updates or major changes.

KNOWN LIMITATIONS

During setup, only O'Reilly WebSite and Microsoft IIS 3.0 are detected.
If you are not using one of these servers, you will have to manually
configure the aliases for /ECware, /ECsecure, and /ECadmin.

When running ECware on a Windows 95 Web server, CyberCash is not
available. This is due to the fact that CyberCash itself will not run
    on Windows 95.
