 Enter the Internet Name or Address of the computer you want to call
 You can also enter an optional email address.

 The easiest form is just to enter the name of the computer:
 EXAMPLE:    LocalPc1

 You could enter the IP address instead of the name:
 EXAMPLE:    192.42.172.10

 You can call a specific person at that computer:
 EXAMPLE:    tom@LocalPC1
 EXAMPLE:    tom@192.42.172.10

 The Computer might be far away, you need the full address:
 EXAMPLE:    RemotePC.faraway.com
 EXAMPLE:    dick@faraway.site.com

 You can include an Email address:
 EXAMPLE:    tom@LocalPC1+tom
 EXAMPLE:    tom@LocalPC1+tom.hardy@primal.org
 EXAMPLE:    dick@faraway.site.com+dick@primal.org

SUBJECT

Message text is required for Messages, Popnotes and Mail.
It can also be used for Chat, but is not required.

This edit window will accept about 8000 characters of message text.

After entering the Text you can select how you want to send it.

If you enter a message and press 'Chat'; the person you call
has the choice to take the message instead of chatting.

You may also DRAG AND DROP files onto this window.
The list of files will be sent to the remote PC
and the remote user may accept all or some of the files.

Bote can send a message via Email
instead of a Bote Message or PopNote.

This button is disabled until you enter or edit
some text in the 'Subject' window.

To send mail you must
1) Add or edit some text in the 'Subject' window.

2) Supply an email address in the 'To' window.
    (an email address is preceeded by a + )
example:
bob@faraway.com+bob.smith@mail.site.com

---------------------NOTE!-----------------------
You must set up your SMTP mail server
in the EMAIL setup page for this to be available.

@5009
MAIL YOUR IP ADDRESS

Bote can send your EMAIL address to your chat partner.
This is useful if your IP address changes every time
you login to the internet.

You'll want to see the EMAIL page in
the setup menu so that you can set the
name of your mail server and login.

---------------------NOTE!-----------------------

1) You must set up your SMTP mail server in the
   EMAIL setup page for this to be available.
    (the SMTP mailer is where we send mail)

2) The address in the To: field must have an email
   address in it, eg:   +mygal@mail.faraway.net
  (this is the person who will receive the mail)

The address book editor can make this easy for you.

If your partner notices your text arriving in 'bursts'

@5222
SETUP EMAIL

Bote does not need email for normal use.

Enabling email offers some nice benefits
such as automatic address book updating,
and forwarding failed messages via email.

This can be very handy when you use Bote to
send notes to people about telephone calls
'while they were out', If Bote is not running
on their PC, or their PC is turned off, they
can receive them later when they return.

Bote will first try to deliver the messages
as a normal message or popnote, then if that
fails it will revert to email.

Please Note: that this is a *minimal* email
ability and only uses the basic SMTP mail
capability for sending mail.

@5223
SETUP FILE TRANSFERS

Bote is designed to be safe.
Nobody wants other people to write unwanted data.
And nobody should be able to read your files

to select the files you will receive.

send you a list of files.

ABOUT IP

UserName
This is the login name you used
when you started your computer and
logged into windows or the network.
If you did not login it says 'NoLoginName'

IPName
The "readable" name of your IP connection.
If you have a registered IP name it will
look something like   yourname@yoursite.com
This will normally be the same every time.

If you have a Dynamic IP connection
to your ISP this name may be somewhat
cryptic and might look something like:
ppppapchapslip104.tunnel.yourisp.com

IPAddress
This is your real IP address.
For a registered IP site this is constant.
For a dynamic IP site it will often change.
looks like    aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
(4 numeric groups but not always 3 digits)

@5314
ABOUT IP

Displays your IP name and address.
It may take a few moments and may make an
outgoing call to your ISP do a DNS name
lookup for your current IP address.

@5315
BOTE PORT

A visible number in this location
shows the nonstandard port number.
The /p command line option set this.

This instance of Bote is listening
and by default sending, using the
indicated port number.

If you want to send to the standard
Bote port you should append :54637
to the host address.

example
joe@faraway.com:54637

@5317
HTTP/WWW

This page contains settings for the
(H)yper (T)ext (T)ransfer (P)rotocol
as used on the (W)orld (W)ide (W)eb.

@5318
ANSWER HTTP REQUESTS

Check this if you want a HTTP server.

It is very small and quite limited in
what it can do. Basically it can only
send text responses, not image files.

Most HTML commands are allowed as long
as they do not require the caller to
load another page, or image.

The server always gives the single page
that you specify, regardless of what the
caller asks for.

If you disable the server the change
is not immediate, it waits until the
next HTTP request arrives, then sends
a RESET and terminates.

You can re-enable the server at any time.

@5319
WEB PAGE

This is the name of the file
that Bote sends to ALL callers.

But most text formatting operations
tables, colors fonts etc. are OK.

@5320
BROWSE FOR THE WEB PAGE

You can select the file to
send to your WWW callers.

@5321
ZIP FILE FOR WEB PAGE

If you want to distribute a file
archive you can specify the name
of the file here. This file will
be sent for any archive file request.

@5322
LOG HTTP REQUESTS

Incoming HTTP requests will
be recorded in the log file.

@5323
SEND RAW HTTP FROM FILE

The contents of the file are sent verbatim.
No HTTP headers or conversion is made.

If you know HTTP protocol you might have
some fun with this. Otherwise you should
leave this option UNCHECKED.

@5324
EDIT WEB PAGE

You can Use this to edit your web page.

Notepad is used for editing.

You can override this by setting the environment variables
EDITOR
-or-
VISUAL
in your autoexec.bat
example: set EDITOR=c:\bin\lemmy.exe

NOTE!: The web page is in ASCII text format.
Do not save word processing format information in it.

@5325
INCLUDE HTTP HEADERS IN LOG

When this is enabled, the entire HTTP
header is included in the log file.

This can cause your log file to grow, large, quickly.

Keep an eye on it, or it could eat a lot of disk space.

Note: that this also does a 'Reverse DNS LOOKUP' which
converts the IpAddress from a number (nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn)
into to the full site name. This can be slow sometimes.

This option is only valid if you have also enabled HTTP logging.

@5326
BROWSE FOR ZIP FILE

You can browse the filesystem
to select the archive filename.

@5330
RESET HITCOUNT

The number on the button is the number of
times the web server has been accessed.

Press the button to reset the count to zero.

The counter is reset immediately, so even if
you press CANCEL it is not restored.

@5333
@5334
REDIRECT CALLERS

CLEAR THIS if you want callers to see YOUR web pages.

If you Enable Redirects (by setting the checkbox)
WWW callers will NOT get pages from your site.

Instead the caller will be told that the pages
have been moved to a different location.

Most browsers will transfer automatically.

Browsers that do not automatically transfer
will receive the message:

302: Moved Temporarily

The requested page is temporarily located at
http://xxx.yyy.zzz
