This program was written as a tool to calculate bandwidth usage for ftp sites
using Serv-U 2.2. (it may work with older/newer versions, but has not been
tested)

The latest version of this program is at ftp://ftp.excelsoft.com/utilities/ We will
try to keep 2 files in this directory. The first, will just be the ftp_parser.exe
(havent come up with a good name yet) and the other will be a .zip file with the
2 required .dll files. (mfc42.dll & msvcrt.dll). Currently registration is being
done via a secure web page at https://www.excelsoft.com/secure/form.htm. The
current cost is $25 USD payable by credit card. After submitting the form, you
will be emailed a registration code to enter into the program. See instructions
below.

OPERATION:

Double click the icon for FTP Parser.

SELECT LOG FILE:

In the files section, click on Open, navigate to your raw ftp log files
from Serv-U 2.2. click on a log file. This selects which log file to work
with.

NOTE:

I would suggest that you don't report on an active log file (ftp.log)
Rename ftp.log so that Serv-U will create a new file if you have never
done so.

SELECT REPORT NAME:

In the report section, click on Save and navigate to a directory to store
the report. Type in a file name and click Save.

PROCESS LOG:

Click on start. Depending on the size of your log file this could take a
while. I generally work with log files in the 4 - 5 MEG range. You
can let this program work in the background or minimize it. Once it is
complete you should hear a beep and you can click on the view report
file button to see the current output file.

The demo runs only the first 300 hundred lines in the log file then drops out and
generates your report. Since it doesn't read very far into the file, you may not be
able to use some of the filters. Show files names will work just fine.

TROUBLESHOOTING

About the only problem that I have seen so far is that if insufficient logging
information is captured, the reports may be blank. Check your settings for Serv-U
look under Logging, and enable the following log options:

Log to file (of course)
Log Get
Log Put
Log System
Log Security
Log IPNames

With at least these options turned on you will get sufficient information in the log
to generate reports.

REGISTRATION

Visit https://www.excelsoft.com/secure/form.htm fill out the online
form with credit card information.. ($25) We will email you back
within 2 business days with a registration code to be entered into the
program to remove the demo limitation.

Once you have our email, run the FTP_Parser program and click on
the icon in the upper left corner of the program (looks like a nose with
feet). Select `About FTP Parser`. When the about window appears,
you can click on `Register` button. On the first line, enter your
company name as it appears in your email message. Next put in the
registration code. Press OK to leave this screen and OK to leave the
About screen. Now you need to close the FTP Parser program and re-
open it. Now the splash screen should say Registered to `Your
company name`. If it still says Demo version, please go back to the
`Register` screen and recheck your entry including capitalization. This
process is case sensitive. If you are still having trouble, please send the
original email back to arleen@execelsoft.com so that we may double
check the registration code.

If you have questions/suggestions email bill@excelsoft.com.

If this tools is useful to a lot of people we may put out a 2nd version with some
requested features, so please give us some feed back.

Thanks
