Directories/Files
When it starting, Revvie expects to find the default startup network,
revvie.net, in the current default directory from where you launched
revvie, if started from a DOS shell, or in the directory where Revvie
was installed. If it cannot find this startup network, it will come up
with an empty network and a blank screen.
You can also modify where Revvie searches for its startup network
by making a PIF file with your own special starting directory specified.
See the Windows help on the Pif Editor for Windows 3.1, or for Properties
if you are running Windows 95.
Revvie reads or writes ASCII data files containing Wave data if the FromFile
or ToFile modules are present in the network. These files are named "frakrawxx.asc",
where xx is a two-digit number from 00 - 98. Number 99 is reserved, so avoid using
that file number.
Troubleshooting
- If Revvie crashes on startup, it could mean that the file revvie.net has
been corrupted. It is a good idea to make duplicates of all your .net
files from time to time, and store them somewhere save. You should avoid
editing networks by hand.
- Don't hear any MIDI but the Activity Icon indicates MIDI? Make sure your MIDI
cable is hooked to the FIRST output port on your MIDI dongle; Revvie does
not support the alternate output ports.
- Remember, if Revvie's Activity Icon looks like a spinning letter 'f',
that means it is waiting for input. If it says "MIDI", that means that revvie is firing,
sending MIDI. No movement of the Activity Icon probably means that Revvie is hung.
- If no modules appear in the module list, that means that Revvie
was running as a demo copy, and has expired. Contact Fractallonomy
for a new license.
Known Bugs
- Holding down the spacebar can cause multiple start/stops to queue up,
causing the network to repeatedly fire and halt. This can make Revvie
look like it is 'hung' .
- Revvie can slow down other programs during firing.
- There are occasional paint errors, resulting in Revvie having a "whiteout"
appearance. This can be remedied by moving a module around or by resizing the
main window. When scrolling the work area around, you may notice some glitches
in the background colors.
- If a network is being fired continuously, there is an infrequent bug which
occurs once every several hundred firings, causing MIDI to hang. To exit from
this condition, press Ctl-Alt-Delete, kill Revvie, and restart it. This should
clear any leftover MIDI 'stuck' notes.
Getting a License
Revvie is distributed over the Internet, with its sample
networks, but without a License File. This license file
enables all the features of RevoLucid, such as the ability
to write your own networks and to create networks with
large numbers of modules.
Without a license file, Revvie will run just fine,
but only in Demo Mode.
The License File contains information about the disk on
which Revvie has been installed. Revvie cannot be moved
to another disk after it has been installed and licensed.
Contact Fractallonomy for more information about obtaining
additional licenses.
Follow these steps to get a license:
- Run Revvie, and press the ALT-L key.
This produces a License CheckFile, called LICENSE.CHK
- E-Mail this file to Fractallonomy.
It will be processed into a license key..
- Send US$20 to Fractallonomy for each desired license.
- When your payment is received, you will receive E-Mail.
Your license key will be at a special web address for downloading,
or it can be e-mailed to you directly if you wish.
- Copy this license key into Revvie's home directory.
(this is usually C:\REVOL)
...at this point, Revvie should work in full operating mode.
Try modifying a network and saving it with the Shift-S key.
check the date on this network file, and verify that it is new.
If you didn't produce a new network file, contact Fractallonomy
for support.
