Sample Images

Here are a few sample images from RealiTools.  Many of these were made either for testing purposes, or to put on the webpage.  They'll give you a bit of an idea of the various uses of the plug-ins.

Here we have an image using ShadowBlend and SoftReflections to blend the spaceship model into the scene.

Here's an image that used ShadowBlend to insert LightWave objects into a VistaPro landscape.  I exported the landscape as a DXF file, then loaded it into LightWave and used ShadowBlend to make it receive shadows from all the other objects.

This image is an example of turning a photograph into a pencil-shaded image.  I loaded in a single polygon and applied the image as a front-projection image map.  Then, I turned on the Pencil Shader and set it to replace the rendered image, giving it a white background for the lines.

Here's another example of the Pencil Shader, this time applied to a LightWave object.  I also applied it to the ground beneath the character's feet, so that the shadows look like they were pencil-shaded, too.

This image used ShadowBlend and SoftReflections to place the teacup and saucer on the kitchen counter.  The reflection of the cup in the window adds quite a bit of realism to the scene.  It's crucial that, when you're taking background plates, you know what your camera's focal length is set to.  You'll find it amazingly easy to set up scenes like this, particularly with guides, such as the edge of the window.

Here's another example of ShadowBlend, used to put the LightWave stock Porsche into the parking lot.  I added a few lensflares for realism, but I think I overdid them a little.

This is an example of how to use the Fresnel Shader to get a unique type of "cel-look edges".  Note how the thickness of the line varies with the sharpness of the curves on the body.

Here's a (totally outlandish) take-off on the NewTek "we've got what it takes" magazine ad.  The sphere on the left used the typical LightWave renderer.  The sphere on the right used Lighter for the custom ambient color, light contrast, and specular color, and SoftReflections for - well - soft reflections!

And, finally, this is an image of my backyard, with a LightWave picnic table.  I used ShadowBlend to catch shadows from the table, and tint them slightly blue.  This is about what the tutorial for ShadowBlend should end up looking like.
