Thank you for choosing The CyberAngel to safeguard your computer and data. We believe that you'll find this program remarkably easy to install and that it is unique in the level of protection that it affords. This readme file contains important information, tips, and suggestions about The CyberAngel.

Installation & Registration:

As you install The CyberAngel keep the Registration Certificate included with your software handy so that you can fill it out during the setup. Since you'll be recording information such as your CyberAngel Password, Authentication Code and User ID, do not store this certificate in the vicinity of your computer. It should be kept in a secure, yet accessible location. You will need to reference the information on this document if you need to contact CSS to report a stolen computer or make any changes in your personal information. Failure to properly secure this certificate and prevent its discovery by a thief may result in the loss of protection offered by The CyberAngel.

You must agree to the "Individual End-User License Agreement" and complete the registration to enable The CyberAngel on your computer.

The purpose of the registration process is to identify you and your computer uniquely to CSS. You'll be asked for personal data such as name, address, phone, fax, etc. In addition, you will need to designate a method for CSS to contact you in the event that your computer has been used in an unauthorized manner or in the event of theft. We suggest that you designate "e-mail" (assuming, of course, that you have an e-mail address) as the method of contact since it is the fastest way for us to let you know that an unauthorized person has used your computer. You may also designate "fax notification." Should you chose fax notification- and this may be preferable to some users- be sure that the fax machine is not in the vicinity of your computer. Should a thief or other unauthorized person use your computer, the CSS monitoring server will automatically send a "faxed" alarm notice that could be discovered by the thief if the fax machine is close to your computer.

You will also be asked to select an authentication code. This code will be sent to CSS with your other registration information and will be used to identify you in the event that you need to change any personal information in our database after registration. This code should be known only to you and we suggest that you record this on your Registration Certificate. This is the voice code that CSS personnel will require if you need to make any change in our database information such as a change of address, phone number, e-mail address, or notification method. No change to our database can be effected without this code. This is for your protection.

Before sending your registration information, be sure your modem is properly configured and your computer is plugged into a phone source or a dedicated TCP/IP Internet connection. The CyberAngel Registration Utility will request that you reboot your computer after completion of the registration process. After rebooting, The CyberAngel will be active on your computer. We request that you intentionally "trip" The CyberAngel at that time by not entering your password so that you can confirm the full functionality of the program (i.e., verify your notification). If for any reason you experience any difficulty, please call our Technical Support Department at (800) 501-4344.

Remember also that The CyberAngel utilizes an unprompted password. This means that there will be no pop-up window or any other reminder as to when you are supposed to type your CyberAngel password. The password must be typed directly "into the desktop."

Operation:

On most computers, The CyberAngel password is entered after your computer has finished booting (i.e., when your desktop is visible and the mouse pointer has changed to an arrow). For those of you with "Windows" or "Network" passwords, The CyberAngel password is entered after you type your other passwords. Think of The CyberAngel password as the last thing you type before you start to work on your computer. The CyberAngel password must also be re-entered if you restart, reboot, or "close all programs and log on as a new user."

If your computer is stolen, notify CSS Security immediately. At that time, we will obtain detailed, 24 hour, contact information from you. All stolen computers receive priority attention from our Security Specialists. By garnering additional information from you, we will be able to contact you, by phone or by other means of your choosing, as soon as your computer calls our Security headquarters. We will provide you an incident report that will, in most instances, list the name, address, and phone number from which your stolen computer is calling.

Configuration:

For your convenience, we have included a "Configuration Manager" which will allow you to change some of the functionality of The CyberAngel. Using the Configuration manager, you will be able to change your password, disable/re-enable The CyberAngel, or uninstall if the need arises.

To change your CyberAngel password or to disable The CyberAngel, reinsert the disk into your floppy drive. Then go to "Start", then "Run", then type a:\config.exe, then "enter." You'll be asked what you'd like to do. Select one of the options. Regardless of which option you chose, you will need to provide your current CyberAngel password before any changes can be affected. By requiring your current password, no one other than you will be able to disable The CyberAngel or change your password. You will then need to restart your computer to enable the changes you've selected.

Technical Support:

The most frequent "perceived" problem is that The CyberAngel is prohibiting modem use. In nearly all instances this is caused by forgetting that The CyberAngel uses an unprompted password or by entering the password at the wrong time. Remember, the program does not ask, remind, or prompt you to enter your CyberAngel password. The CyberAngel password is entered after your "Windows" and/or "Network" passwords, if you're using them.

If you have any other Technical Support questions, please call 1-800-501-4344. Our normal hours are from 8:00am until 8:00pm Central Time, Monday through Friday. Saturday, our hours are from 8:am until 3:00pm Central Time.
