HOW TO INSTALL FRONIMO

FRONIMO 2.0 comes in two version. The 16 bit version was compiled
to run on MS Windows 3.1x, but it works perfectly also in a
Windows '95 environment. The 32 bit version runs only on Windows
'95. A video card capable of a resolution of at least 800x600 is
highly recommended. FRONIMO works at any resolution but the
characters appear quite ugly at lower resolutions.

Installing FRONIMO is really very simple so I don't provide a
dedicated program to do this. Please follow these instructions:

1) copy FRONIMO.EXE, FRONIMO.HLP and FRONIMO.CNT (if you are using
the 32 bit version) in a directory on your hard disk. I suggest
you to create a new one named FRONIMO, but you can use any
name. You can copy there also the demo file LANGTON.FT2, if you
  want.

2) add the FRONIMO 2.0 custom fonts to the system. You can do this
from the Windows control panel, following the standard
procedure. Ouverture is mandatory (without installing it
FRONIMO 2.0 can't work correctly), the other custom fonts are
  highly recommended.

If in Win3.1 you create a Program Manager group named Fronimo, any
new file saved by FRONIMO 2.0 will be associated with an icon in
this group window. In Windows '95 this will be automatic. You can
open a tablature with a double click of the left mouse button on
the associated icon.

For people upgrading from a preceding version: you can read the
files created with the old version with the new one, but the file
extensions are changed. To avoid conflicts with the file extension
(.tab) of Wayne Cripps' TAB program, the FRONIMO 1.4.1 file have
now the .ft1 extension, while the 2.0 files have the .ft2
extension. The TAB files can now keep their default extension .tab
and will be recognised by FRONIMO. It is possible to export from
the 2.0 version to the old 1.4.1 format, but only when the
additional features of the 2.0 version are not used, i.e. you can
export only if a single tablature staff is used in all the
sections of the document.

If you have a copy of the fonts coming with FRONIMO 1.4.1 already
installed on your PC it is a good idea to reinstall them from the
new distribution file. To do this you need to remove the older
fonts using the control panel and then reinstall the new ones. You
can keep the 1.4.1 Preludio font installed, so you can continue to
use the 1.4.1 version while evaluating the 2.0 one.
