System Requirements
===================

. If you are using Microsoft Windows NT Workstation or Server
Release 3.51 for the cc:Mail Advanced Messaging Server (which
includes this release of Router for NT), use Service Pack Version
   5.

. If you are using Microsoft Windows NT Workstation or Server
Release 4.0 for the cc:Mail Advanced Messaging Server, use Service
Pack Version 2 that was downloaded from the Microsoft Web site on
   March 1, 1997 or later.

See the Lotus cc:Mail Release 8.1 Planning and Installation Guide
for the hardware and software requirements for Lotus cc:Mail
Release 6.1 Router for NT.

Installation
============

. When you replace an older version of Router for NT, make sure
that you install all files from the \ROUTER\NT directory on the
Lotus cc:Mail Release 8.1 CD-ROM to the computer running Router
   for NT.

New Features
============

. Supports up to 99 serial communication ports when you install a
   Digiboard DigiChannel multiple-serial-port communication board.

. Supports multiple Router for NT sessions using the Novell Sequenced
Packet Exchange (SPX) transport protocol on a computer running
Windows NT Workstation or Server Release 4.0.

NOTE Supports only a single Router for NT session using the SPX
transport protocol on a computer running Windows NT Workstation or
   Server Release 3.51.

. Propagates and synchronizes Directory entries that use international
   characters.

. Supports Automatic Directory Exchange (ADE) propagation of extended
character fields in ADE update messages.

. Controls ADE propagation of extended character fields using the new
commands EXTFIELD/Y (for Yes) or EXTFIELD/N (for No).

. Displays "TCPIP PORT CC0 LISTEN ... Multiple IP addresses" when Windows
NT returns multiple IP addresses while Router for NT is listening for
   calls.

If only a single IP address is returned from the Windows NT operating
system, Router for NT displays only that IP address.

. Displays the TCP/IP port number when placing outbound or listening
   for inbound calls.

See Help in cc:Mail Admin for Release 8.1 or the Lotus cc:Mail Release 8.1
Administrator's Guide for detailed information on new features in Router
for NT.

Fixed Problems in Release 6.1
=============================

. Router for NT now notifies the cc:Mail administrator if there
are any undeliverable ADE update messages.

Undeliverable ADE update messages no longer corrupt cc:Mail
post offices during update message propagation or post office
   synchronization.

. Router for NT now delivers a single message to multiple mailing
lists that contain more than 300 local and remote (L and R) users
   on a single PO.

. Router for NT now listens for calls on any IP addresses that are
locally bound to one or more of the internal network interface cards
(NICs) in the computer where Router for NT is installed.

Router for NT displays "TCPIP PORT CC0 LISTEN...Multiple IP addresses"
when the Windows NT operating system returns multiple IP addresses
while Router for NT is listening for calls.

. Router for NT returns Remote Access Server (RAS) TCP/IP routing
information when it requests the IP address of the system. If
RAS connections are accepted on this system, Router for NT displays
"TCPIP PORT CC0 LISTEN...Multiple IP addresses".

Fixed Problems in Release 6.02.01
=================================

. Router for NT and ADE now properly create USRxxxxx files for new
local user accounts (L, R, and P) in mixed Release 5.x and Release
6 and later post office environments.

General Router Information
==========================

. cc:Mail provides the CCREGMOD program to automatically verify and
modify settings in the 32-bit Windows registry, without requiring
cc:Mail administrators to manually update the Windows registry.

CCREGMOD helps cc:Mail administrators maintain cc:Mail post
offices in the Windows NT and Windows 95 environments. CCREGMOD
automatically runs on each Windows NT Workstation or Server that
runs any cc:Mail component; for example, cc:Mail Router for NT.

See the CCREGMOD.TXT file in the \SUPPORT directory on the Lotus
cc:Mail Release 8.1 Advanced System Pack CD-ROM for more
   information about CCREGMOD.

NOTE You must run CCREGMOD on each Windows 95 workstation that runs
   cc:Mail.

. Router for NT assigns Port CC0 (0CC0h) as the default port for
your LAN or WAN connections to cc:Mail post offices using TCP/IP.

You can also designate that Router for NT use Port 21 for
TCP/IP sessions by specifying this port on the Router for NT
   command line.

To do so, type the following command line for Router for NT:

      NTROUTER postofficepath TCPIP PORT21

. This release provides a template for a looping Router batch file
(RTRLOOP.BAT). This batch file, as well as the NAP.EXE file (used for
Router for NT and OS/2) and the NAPDOS.EXE file (used only for Router
for DOS), which are required when using the batch file, is located in
the \SUPPORT directory on the Lotus cc:Mail Release 8.1 Advanced
   System Pack CD-ROM.

To use the RTRLOOP.BAT file, follow these steps:

   1. Copy the RTRLOOP.BAT template to the ROUTER directory (or other
directory of your choice) and give it a unique name.

NOTE Rename the looping Router batch file template for use
      with each Router session.

   2. Copy NAP.EXE to the same directory as in step 1.

   3. Use any text editor to add your Router command line where
      noted in the template.

   4. Save the batch file.

   5. To run Router, start the batch file.

   How the Batch File Works
   ------------------------
If Router detects that the post office is shut down, the batch
file pauses for the specified time delay (the default delay is
900 seconds), and attempts to restart Router.

If an error is detected in the Router command line, the batch
file exits, displays the error, and returns to the command prompt.

If you press the ESC key, the batch file exit, and returns to
   the command prompt.

If Router encounters an error accessing the database, the batch
file pauses for the specified time delay (the default delay is 30
seconds), and attempts to restart Router.

If Router ends without an error (for example, by using the END
parameter), the batch file pauses for the specified time delay
(the default delay is 120 seconds), and attempts to restart
   Router.

NOTE NAP allows you to set the time delay periods from between 1
and 86,400 seconds (the number of seconds in one day). You can
change any of the default time delays by modifying the
appropriate section of the looping batch file.

Known Problems and Workarounds
==============================

. Do not use the TCPIP transport and the MODEM/NONE parameter
commands at the same time with Router for NT. Use the TCPIP
transport command at the beginning of the optional command
parameters section of the Router for NT command line and use the
DIAGNOSTICS/F command at the end of the command line.

NOTE The TCPIP transport command directs Router for NT to
listen for calls from other Routers over a TCP/IP network by using
TCP/IP as the network transport protocol.

. Do not specify the same call list and sublist number for any two
Router sessions that use TCP/IP or SPX. Use a unique call list and
sublist number for each Router session.

The multi-session TCP/IP or SPX implementations used in Router for
NT cause two Router sessions that are started on the same Windows
NT Server or Workstation, and that are using the same call list
and sublist number, to both appear to be in a "listen" state. When
this occurs, neither Router can answer any incoming calls from other
   Routers.

. You should use more than one network interface card (NIC) when your
network environment includes multiple Router sessions running on the
same Windows NT Server or Workstation.

When you use only one NIC in a busy network environment with
multiple Router sessions that access the network simultaneously
using the Microsoft Redirector, the Redirector can become
overloaded by the number of processes and it may cancel access by
some processes. This can cause some Routers to lose their
   connection with the post office.

NOTE Any Redirector overload depends on the level of network
activity, the number of other applications or processes that may
be simultaneously using the Redirector, and any backlog of commands
   for the Redirector.

. If your RAS connections between Windows NT Servers or Workstations
use point-to-point (PPP) connections that are TCP/IP connections
using modems, the COM port that you assign to RAS connections is no
longer available for use by Router for NT.

. When you exit from Router for NT by pressing Control+C, any
existing multiple TCP/IP or SPX sessions can become unreliable.
TCP/IP or SPX unreliability is indicated when Router for NT does
not display any IP or SPX address that it is listening on.

If Router listens for TCP/IP or SPX sessions without displaying
any IP or SPX addresses, and this lasts longer than 3 minutes,
you must stop all Router for NT sessions and restart the computer
where Router for NT is installed.

. Microsoft Windows NT Workstation or Server Release 3.51 supports
only a single TCP/IP or SPX listen session for this release
   of Router for NT.

. You can define additional serial communication ports (up to COM 99)
when you install a Digiboard DigiChannel multiple serial-port board.
This serial-port board provides additional COM ports for Type 2
   asynchronous modem connections.

See Chapter 6 in Lotus cc:Mail Release 8.1 Administrator's Guide
   for details.
