* SAW Plus 3.3 Upgrade Installation Procedure
*-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT NOTICE to ALL USERS:

It has come to our attention that when the upgrade file is run from inside
the Windows file manager or by double-clicking on the upgrade file or when
run in a DOS prompt inside of Windows, that an error may cause the
self-extracting ZIP file to abort and exit back to Windows without the user
seeing that an error occurred. If an error does occur, then all of the
upgrade files may not be extracted resulting in erroneous error messages
when starting the program after updating it. We strongly recommend going
to DOS (not a DOS prompt inside of Windows) and executing the upgrade file.
We are looking in the future towards making a Windows based self-extract
and update program that would simply this process for our users. Our new
demo programs already contain this ability. IT IS IMPORTANT that SAW Plus
is NOT running or minimized when applying the upgrade! The following is the
recommended process (it is assumed that you know which drive the SAW Plus
program is located on) for those of you not familiar with DOS:

   For Windows 3.1/3.11/3.11 for Workgroups:

   1) Download the upgrade file and the latest INSTALXX.TXT (this file)
   install text file.
   2) Read the instalxx.txt file to see if there are any new special
installation instructions for this upgrade (IMPORTANT).
   3) If the upgrade requires you to delete your old preference file, first
run the program and write down the settings in your audio hardware setup
for your sound card(s) and the MIDI/SMPTE hardware setup for any of those
interfaces you may have. After the current program directory is
duplicated, you "may" be asked to delete the SAWPLUS.PRF preference file.
This means that after applying the upgrade in the SAW Plus directory and
restarting the program, you will have to go to the audio hardware setup and
the MIDI/SMPTE hardware setup and restore the sound card settings (from the
information you wrote down). Then save the preference file again.
   4) Using the file manager, "DUPLICATE" the existing SAW Plus directory so
that you have a backup in case of a problem with the new upgrade. DO NOT
duplicate and sound files or related sound files (.WPD, .SPD) when you
backup your SAW Plus directory (if you do, it will unnecessarily waste that
   disk space).
   5) Exit Windows.
   6) Type the following line to change to the SAW Plus directory at the DOS
   prompt:
           CD\SAWPLUS
   7) Type:
           SAWPLxx.EXE
to apply the upgrade saying yes whenever it wants to overwrite a file.
   8) When the above program is finished and you are back at the DOS prompt,
return to Windows and restart SAW Plus. Within the program, go to the
"INFO" drop down menu and select "About". Check the program version number
to make sure that the update is complete. If the update required you to
delete your old preference file (SAWPLUS.PRF), reset your audio hardware
setup options for your sound card and MIDI/SMPTE card (if any) and save
   your preferences again.

For Windows 95, follow the steps above except use the Windows Explorer
program instead of the File Manager.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

It's come to our attention that some of our upgrade files have been made
public on the Internet and on some bbs'. We've instituted tracking
measures now that allow us to determine which users have distributed or is
being careless with regards to maintain security of all portions of our
products except for the demo programs/diskettes which can be freely
distributed. For users distributing our upgrades illegally, electronically
or otherwise, it means immediate loss of support from Innovative Quality
Software followed by vigorous legal prosecution and lawsuits to recover
   estimated financial losses.

3.2 Upgrade Install Instructions:

If you're upgrading to this version from 2.5, then just follow the normal
instructions below as far as duplicating your original directory before
applying this upgrade. If you are upgrading from a version of SAW Plus prior
to version 2.5, then all of the following apply below. In any case, the way
the SRP button works changed in version 2.5 and we neglected to mention it in
the release notes for 2.5. Read the "IMPORTANT 2.5 Oversight" paragraph below
so that you know how this has changed. That's it!

IMPORTANT 2.5 NOTICE: If any strange occurrences happen with this program, we
recommend renaming the SAWPLUS.PRF file and then restarting SAW Plus and
creating a new preference file. Please try this before reporting any new
bugs. You can also run SAW Plus from the file manager by adding a "/d"
parameter to the command line when using the "RUN" option from the file drop
down menu. This starts SAW Plus in a debug mode where it runs without using
your existing preference file allowing you to try different settings, but
preventing you from saving them over the top of your existing preference file.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE: The new SMPTE chase lock resolve will not work with
the Sound Blaster cards or any of the Tahiti cards because those sound card
drivers do not send accurate information back to our program necessary to do
accurate tracking. DO NOT attempt to use the SMPTE chase lock resolve with
these cards. It may result in a GPF at this time. Read the section in the
update release notes about the SMPTE chase lock resolve and how to tell if it
will work properly with your sound card.

IMPORTANT 2.5 Oversight: In 2.5 of SAW Plus, we changed the way the SRP button
works. We added punch in and out capability to the record button by simply
clicking on the SRP button, then toggling punch in by clicking on the "rec"
button, punching out by clicking on the "SRP" button again....etc.. To do
just a regular SRP, users now have to hold down the SHIFT button at the same
time that the SRP button is clicked on. We neglected to put that tiny bit of
information about the shift key in the latest release notes and thought people
were reading that until Tim Kehl informed my otherwise. We apologize for the
oversight and the problems it caused anyone.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: DUE TO CHANGES IN EVERY FILE OF THE PROGRAM IN THIS UPDATE,
IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE UPGRADE AND YOU WISH TO GO BACK TO A VERSION
OLDER THAN 2.1 CONTAINED IN A DUPLICATE DIRECTORY OF YOUR PREVIOUS SAW PLUS
DIRECTORY, FIRST DELETE "ALL" OF THE NEW FILES IN THE SAW PLUS DIRECTORY, THEN
COPY THE FILES FROM YOUR SAW PLUS DUPLICATE DIRECTORY BACK INTO THE ORIGINAL
SAW PLUS DIRECTORY. PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW CAREFULLY BELOW
INSTALLING THE UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To install this upgrade:

1) You must have installed SAW Plus from the original diskette. The files
contained in the SAWPLxx.EXE file are compressed in a ZIP format and can be
extracted simply by executing the file from a DOS prompt or double clicking
on it on the EXE file from the Windows File Manager. DO NOT USE the "RUN"
option in the FILE MANAGER to decompress or run the upgrade .EXE file. It
may not completely unarchive all of the files. PLEASE read all of the
instructions below BEFORE applying the upgrade.

2) DUPLICATE all of the files in your SAW Plus directory into a backup
directory (I.E. SAWPLOLD dir). In case of a problem with the upgrade, you
can always go back to an older version by copying all of the files from
your backup directory into the original SAW Plus directory. Once your SAW
Plus directory is backed up (Please do that!), copy the SAWPLxx.EXE file
into the original SAW Plus directory and run it from the the DOS
command prompt or double clicking on it on the EXE file from the Windows
File Manager. When asked to overwrite existing files, select "Y"es or "A"ll
to overwrite the files in the directory. That's all there is to it.
