Thank-you for trying out PKWARE's latest BETA version of
PKZIP for Windows. Your feedback on this pre-release
software will help us provide our customers with a better
product. While you are trying out this version, you may
want to take a look at some of these new features:

- You may now access the Compress and/or Extract preferences dialogs
regardless of whether you have a .ZIP file open or not. Click on
Compress and/or Extract from the main menu and select the Preferences
option.

- You may now create folders as needed when extracting files.
A new button on the Extract dialog allows you to create a new
destination folder for the files to be extracted.

- A new right mouse click menu item (Create Shortcut) allows you to
instantly create a desktop shortcut for the currently open and active
.ZIP file.

- New File menu items allow you to copy, move, rename, or delete the
currently open and active .ZIP file.

- List files (ASCII text files that contains file names and their
locations) may now be accessed from within the Add Files dialog.

- You may now create 32-bit Windows self-extractors. Previously only
the 16-bit self extractor option was available.
(Only available in the Registered version of PKZIP for Windows)

- You may now open and extract files from several encoded file formats
(e.g. MIME, BinHex 4.0, UUencoded, XXencoded, GZIP, and standard TAR)
with PKZIP for Windows. Additionally you may convert .ZIP files to the
UUencoded format.

- A Wizard is now available to guide the novice user through
the steps necessary to compress files into a .ZIP file or
extract files stored in a .ZIP file.

Several bugs from the previous versions of PKZIP for Windows
have also been corrected:

- Full Year 2000 support within PKZIP for Windows.
The previous version could only support date ranges up
to 2009 when using the Select Files by Date option.
This has been corrected. Also, 4 digit years will appear
in the Date column if you configure your system to
display 4 digit years.

- A problem sometimes occurred when spanning .ZIP files on
Windows NT. This resulted in significant disk head movement
and very slow write performance. This problem has been resolved.

***INSTALLATION NOTE: By default, the PKZIP installation
program will extract the PKZIP for Windows program files
into the \PKWARE\PKZIPW directory. If PKZIP program files
already reside in the \PKWARE\PKZIPW directory and you do
not wish to overwrite them, specify an alternate directory
in the Extract To: box of the Installation dialog before
clicking the Extract button. Additionally the PKZIP
installation program will globally register the .ZIP filename
extension with PKZIP for Windows. If you do not wish to register
the .ZIP filename extension with the version of PKZIP you are
installing, uncheck the Register extension(s) checkbox
before clicking the Extract button in the Installation dialog.
