DBiff - README

Introduction

What is DBiff?

DBiff is a program that acts like the UNIX program Biff. It runs in the background and notifies the user of new mail. There are several options available for the type of notification that is desired.

Installing DBiff

To install DBiff, run the seup.exe program in the distribution. Then follow the step in the installation program to copy the necessary files.

Running DBiff

Clicking on the icon in the Program Group in which you installed DBiff will run it. DBiff supports 1 command line parameter /C This parameter is followed by the name of a configuration, which can be any name you choose. If there is a space in the name, enclose it is "". This parameter allows you to keep multiple configurations with different server and mailbox names. The /C parameter tells the program which configuration you want to use. By running multiple copies of the program, each with a different configuration name, you may monitor multiple mailboxes/servers.

Registering DBiff
The user of the program is granted a 15-day license to evaluate DBiff. After this 15-day period, the program will no longer function unless it is registered. The registration fee is $15 (U.S. Dollars).
Registration of the program grants the user free minor upgrades (these will include bug fixes and minor enhancements). Minor upgrades include any version where the first number of the version number (the one
before the first period) is the same. For example, version 1.5.20 would be a minor upgrade to version 1.0.20, but version 2.0.10 would not be. Also, the user is entitled to purchase major upgrades (where the first number of the version changes, i.e. 1.0.20 -> 2.0.10) for a reduced price.
Registration is handled through Kagi. This is a registration service that provides for many different methods of payment, including personal check, money order, credit card and more. With the payment information, you will be asked to include the serial number from your copy of DBiff. This may be found by choosing Help/About. Here you will see the serial number listed. 3-5 days after I receive notification from Kagi about your registration I will mail you a registration number (to the e-mail address you provide to Kagi). This number will only work with your copy of DBiff. To enter the registration
number, choose Enter Registration Info. from the About Dialog, which may be brought up by choosing Help/About from the main window. If your copy has already expired, you will be prompted for registration information after the expiration notice has been shown. Your serial number will also be shown
in this message box.

Online registration is available at http://order.kagi.com/?2SU

Registration of the program is done using the register.exe program. This program may be run by selecting Run Register. from the About Dialog. It may also be run by clicking on the icon in the Program Group for DBiff.

Entering Registration Information

The registration number may be entered by choosing Help/About from the main window and then choosing Enter Registration Info. You will then be prompted for the Registration Number that I have sent you. Type it into the box exactly as I sent it to you. The program will then verify the Registration
Number. If your copy of DBiff has expired, you will be prompted for registration information right after the expiration notice.
