===================================================================
I. You Have No License File
===================================================================

If your distribution of PORTspy Plus did not contain a license file,
you have an evaluation copy of PORTspy Plus. PORTspy Plus WILL NOT
run without a valid license file.

You will need to contact PQ Systems in order to obtain a
temporary license that will allow you to run PORTspy Plus during an
evaluation period. The preferred method is to e-mail technical
support (Support@pqsystems.com) and request that a temporary
license be e-mailed to you.

If you downloaded an evaluation copy of PORTspy Plus from the PQ
Systems web site (www.pqsystems.com) and you filled out the
"PORTspy Plus Evaluation Request Form" then a temporary license will
automatically be e-mailed to you.

If you have purchased this copy of PORTspy Plus and you do not have
a license file, contact PQ Systems technical support.

===================================================================
II   Installation Update
===================================================================

1.  CONFIG.SYS File

The installation program will confirm that your FILES setting in
CONFIG.SYS is at least 50. If FILES is not equal to or greater
than 50, the installation program will change this setting.

2.  AUTOEXEC.BAT File

The installation program checks to make sure SHARE.EXE is loaded
if it is needed on your computer. If necessary, it adds the line

   SHARE.EXE /f:5100 /l:500

to your AUTOEXEC.BAT. You must restart your computer for this
change to take effect. SHARE.EXE may be loaded into high memory
if you are also loading HIMEM and EMM386.

If you are running Windows for Workgroups and have a
DEVICE=VSHARE.386 line in your SYSTEM.INI file, you SHOULD NOT
load SHARE.EXE.

If you are running Windows 95 or Windows NT, you SHOULD NOT
load SHARE.EXE under any circumstances. If the installation
program added a SHARE.EXE line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you
should remove that line.

3. Other Installation Notes

Recording Your Name and Company Name
------------------------------------
When installing PORTspy Plus for Windows, you will be prompted to
enter your name and your company name to proceed with the install
(if your distribution included a license file).

The Install Log File
--------------------
During the PORTspy Plus install, status messages and error messages
are written into a log file. The file is PSPLUS20.LOG and is stored
in your \WINDOWS directory. If you encounter problems during or
after the install, use NOTEPAD (or another text file viewer) to
review the contents of this log file. Before contacting our
techincal support staff, please print the contents of this log
file; this will aid in trouble shooting.

Shared components in \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
------------------------------------
PORTspy Plus requires certain files in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
directory. These files, which usually have .DLL or .OCX file
extensions, are shared components. This means that other
programs may require and use the same files. Although these
components are supposed to be compatible from version to
version, it is possible to encounter problems when using an
'older' version of one of these files.

During the PORTspy Plus install, if PORTspy Plus could potentially
replace any of these shared components, the original files are
placed in the PQEXTRA directory. In the event that a PORTspy Plus
component causes a compatibility problem with another application,
these original files will be available. See the PSPLUS20.LOG file
for details about which components were copied to the PQEXTRA
directory.

===================================================================
III  Running Under Windows 3.1
===================================================================

If you get the message "File Not Found" and/or "Error -1 attempting
to create the NetDDE Share" when first starting PORTspy Plus under
Windows 3.x then you need to edit the PSPLUS.INI file (in the
Windows directory) and find the line that deals with SkipNetDDE
and change that line so that it reads,

   SkipNetDDE=True

The next paragraph explains why PORTspy Plus gets this error. You
do not have to read or understand it unless you really want to.

When PORTspy Plus starts it attempts to create a "DDE Share" that
is required when PORTspy Plus sends a "New Data Available" message
to SQCpack for Windows across a network via Network DDE.
Network DDE is not supported under Windows 3.x; it was first
introduced in Windows for Workgroups 3.x. Unfortunately, it is
difficult for PORTspy Plus to tell whether it is running under
Windows 3.x or Windows for Workgroups 3.x. Thus, Windows 3.x users
need to edit their PSPLUS.INI file by setting "SkipNetDDE=True"
so that PORTspy Plus does not attempt to create the "DDE Share".
