Welcome to the installation of Cubase VST

Please read this text carefully, it may contain information which is not found in the manuals.

Installation:
Please read the Installation manual which comes with your Cubase VST program.
This manual contains all the information you need for getting Cubase VST installed and up and running.

IMPORTANT:
Read the Software Licensing Contract which is diplayed at the beginning of the Cubase Intallation. By installing the software or sending back the registration card, you are declaring yourself to be in agreement with the conditions in the contract.
If you want to read the Software Licensing Contract independently from the installation process, or if you want to print the contract out, you'll find the text file on the CD-ROM in the 'License' directory. This directory contains several text files, but you just need to open the file which contains your chosen language.

Installation process:

1. Depending on your Windows settings, the setup program on the CD-ROM may start automatically.
If not, double-click on the CD-ROM icon in the "My Computer" window.

2. A dialog box appears, asking whether you want to install Cubase VST or Cubase 3.0. Select one of these options.
You will probably want to install Cubase VST, but as stated on page 2, there are situations when you may want to install the non-VST version (3.0). You can always install the other version later if you wish.

3. In the next dialog that appears, select the desired language and click OK.
This language will be used in the installation procedure, as well as in the On-line help and electronic documentation, depending on availability. The actual Cubase VST application will use the language set in the Windows 95 control panel (also depending on availability).

4. The next dialog contains Steinberg's Software Licensing Contract. Please read it carefully and press 'OK' to accept the license agreement, or press 'Cancel' to decline the license agreement.

5. In the next dialog, fill in your name and the serial number of your Cubase VST copy, and click OK.
You will find the serial number on the registration card that comes with the Cubase VST package.

6. Check the name and number in the confirmation dialog and click Yes if they are correct. Clicking No brings back the previous dialog.

7. A dialog asks whether you want to install the Acrobat 3.0 Reader (provided this isn't already installed on your computer) which is necessary for reading the electronic documentation.
You may however choose to install it later if you wish.

8. If you choose to install the Acrobat Reader now, an installation procedure starts. Follow the instructions in the dialogs.

9. Now the actual Cubase VST installation procedure starts.
To advance to the next 'page' in the installation procedure, click the 'Next' button. The 'Previous' button takes you back to the previous page.
A number of dialogs will appear, allowing you to select in which folder on your hard disk you want to install the program, and to select which file extensions should be linked with Cubase VST.
If the installation program finds a previous Cubase version installed on your computer, the next dialog offers to keep the previous Cubase settings, the Setup MME settings and the Studio Module settings.
The installation program also checks your Windows file cache settings. If these settings aren't already optimized, a dialog appears giving you the option of addingan entry to the System.ini file that will optimize Windows 95 file caching. Please check the 'set recommended File Cache Settings' box.
If you choose to do this, a dialog will then appear at the end of the installation process recommending that you restart the computer.

10. Finally, a dialog box informs you that the installation was successful. You then return to the Desktop.
