INSTALLATION

This patch consists of both workstation and server
components. The update must be manually applied to
each workstation running the NetShield v3.0.2
console and each server running the NetShield v3.0.2
NLM.

To Install The Workstation Component:

(1) Shut down the NetShield Console on the workstation.
(2) Copy MCCOMM.DLL into the directory in which the
NetShield Console is installed. The default location
    is:
        C:\Program Files\McAfee\NetShield.
(3) Restart Windows.

To Install The Server Component:

(1) Unload the NetShield NLM on the server.
(2) Copy the NETSHLD.NLM file included with this patch
into the directory in which the NetShield NLM is
    installed. The default location is:
        SYS:McAfee\NetShield.
(3) Edit the NETSHLD.NCF. Insert the command
    SEARCH ADD SYS:MCAFEE\NETSHLD before the
    LOAD SYS:MCAFEE\NETSHLD\NETSHLD.NLM command.
(4) Reload the NetShield NLM.

PROBLEMS ADDRESSED

MCCOMM.DLL
1. The NetShield Console may have been unable to connect
to the NetShield server on some workstations,
especially when using Windows 95 with the Microsoft
Client for NetWare. This patch should correct that
    issue.

NETSHLD.NLM
1. Network message alerts now can be sent to NDS users
from servers with or without bindery emulation
enabled. To receive the alert, the user must have a
current attachment to the server (for example, a
mapped network drive) and be running an appropriate
    message "pop-up" utility.

2. The shutdown procedure has been modified so that
NetShield configuration changes will be properly
saved even if the server is downed without unloading
    NetShield.

3. NetWare servers with long names are now supported.

4. Stability issues related to the scanning of Microsoft
    Office files have been fixed.

5. Infected Microsoft Excel files can now be cleaned
    without corrupting the original files.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

It is possible that connection problems will still be
encountered between the NetShield Console and server
from some workstations, typically when using Windows 95
with Novell's Client 32. If this is the case, check the
network frame types that are configured for your
workstation.

(a) From network properties, check properties for:

IPX 32-bit Protocol for Novell NetWare Client 32

If specific frame types are listed on this page,
make certain that the appropriate frame type for
your network ("Ethernet 802.3", "Ethernet 802.2",
    etc.) is listed first.

(b) From network properties, check properties for:

    IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol

If frame type is defined as "Auto", set it to the
frame type ("Ethernet 802.3", "Ethernet 802.2",
    etc.) appropriate for your network.
