                          Using your Rescue Disk

By creating a rescue disk with either CKRESCUE.BAT from the command line, or
with the Rescue Disk menu option in CheckIt 4, the following
files are copied to a floppy:

      File Types File Names
      ---------- ----------

      DOS boot files COMMAND.COM
                                  CONFIG.SYS
                                  AUTOEXEC.BAT

      DOS support files SYS.COM
                                  FDISK.EXE
                                  FORMAT.COM

      CheckvIt 4 CKCMOS.EXE
      support files CKCMOS.DAT
                                  CKVIEW.EXE

Drivers in CONFIG.SYS Will vary according to system

(Remember, you should use a pre-formatted diskette for the Rescue Disk
process. To make the disk bootable, the RESCUE.BAT will attempt to "SYS"
the floppy disk. If you experience a problem in this operation, use the
FORMAT /S command before running the RESCUE disk program.

                 Using your Rescue Disk

IF YOU THEN
------ ----
lose/corrupt your AUTOEXEC.BAT........Copy it from Rescue Disk to your root*
lose/corrupt your CONFIG.SYS..........Copy it from Rescue Disk to your root*
want to partition a hard disk.........Use the FDISK program
want to DOS format a hard disk........Use the FORMAT program
want to restore your CMOS.............Use the CKCMOS program using CKCMOS.DAT file
want to view this file................Use the CKVIEW program

       * The CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files are saved with the
extension SAV. This is done to secure a valid bootable
Rescue disk. For example, if your hard disk or CMOS
gets corrupted, and your CONFIG.SYS is set up to
look for COMMAND.COM located on your hard disk (i.e.
          SHELL=C:\dos\command.com c:\dos\ /e:2048 /p), COMMAND.COM
will not be found and the error listed below will be reported
          and your system will lock:

                     Bad or Missing Command Interpreter
