Data Detective Indexer
How does Data Detective Indexer work?
The Indexer builds an index of all files or directories of your choosing. You can even index your entire hard drive. The index resides on your personal computer and can be updated or changed any time you wish.
This index is a database that contains all the words of the portion of your files that you choose to index. For every word in the index, the address of each instance of the word in a document is recorded.
Using an index makes Data Detective much faster than applications that must manually search through the actual files each time a search is performed. It also makes more complex search strategies possible.
The Searcher acts on the created index, not the files themselves. If you have created or edited a significant number of files since the last time you indexed, it's a good idea to re-index, to make sure that those changes are incorporated into the database.
