Phrases and Wildcards
How do I refine my search query?

Definition:
A phrase is a group of words surrounded by double-quotes.

The following would be interpreted as 3-word phrases:
"http://appletsite.com " (the same as "http appletsite com ")
"A new sub-folder" (the same as "new sub folder ")

Phrase searching narrows your search. To expand your search you can use the wildcard (*) operator.

Definition:
A word followed by the wildcard (*) matches all documents that contain words starting with the same pattern.

This is especially useful when you don't know the spelling of a particular word, or when you want to include all variants of a word in your search.

For example:
excavat* would match all of the following: excavate, excavates, excavation, excavating, excavated, etc.
