Adding File Types
How do I add or modify file types?

The four pushbuttons in the center of the Document Configuration interface allow you to customize the file types and file extensions known to the Indexer.

For instance, you may have JavaScript files that are stored with an ".js" extension. You can tell the Indexer to index those files, and to treat them as plain text.

1. Clicking the button brings up the Add New Document Type dialog.

2.

Here you can set the Description, the Extension, the Filter and the Viewer associated with the new file type.

For the above example, you would put "JavaScript" in the Description box, "*.js" in the Extension field, select "ASCII Text Filter" for your Filter, and leave the Viewer set to "DEFAULT".

Note that we could also use the button to browse for a different viewer application.

3. Clicking the button stores the new document type information, which now shows up in the Document Type list.

The button removes the currently highlighted document type from the Document Type list.

Similarly, the button lets you edit an existing document type.

The button restores all Document Configuration options to their original (default) settings.

Having set the options for the Document Selector and Document Configuration, you're now ready to create an index.
