AltaVista Mail Gateway for Microsoft Mail - README.TXT

This file contains important information about the gateway
software. Please read it carefully before installing the gateway.

* System Requirements *

Any Intel(R) or Alpha(TM) processor running Microsoft(R) Windows
NT(TM) Server or Workstation V3.51 or later, and AltaVista(TM)
Mail V1.0 or later.

The system should have a minimum of 16 Mbytes of RAM and a hard
disk with 3 Mbytes of free space. Additional space is required
for message and log storage.

* Restrictions *

The gateway operates only against Microsoft(R) Mail Version 3.2.

The Microsoft Mail system can support only a limited number of
recipients per message. Incoming SMTP messages display only as
many recipients as will fit in the space available, and if any
have been discarded a bodypart is inserted to warn that the full
list is visible only in the headers bodypart at the end of the
message. The Microsoft Mail reply-to-all-recipients function can
reply to only those recipients that are displayed.

The gateway maps MIME types to and from their corresponding file
extensions. MIME types (and file extensions) are indefinitely
extensible, so the gateway supports only those mappings known at
the time the gateway was released. If you need to add support for
a new mapping, edit the file called mimetype.dat in the gateway's
directory. If you re-install the gateway, this file will be
overwritten, so save a copy of the changes you've made elsewhere.

Microsoft Mail receipts are not supported.

Apple(R) BinHex, AppleSingle and AppleDouble encodings are not
supported.
