1. Installing Soft Engine

WARNING: Protect your serialized disk (original or stamped update) for all
future updates and upgrades. Don't edit the DISK.ID!

If you would like to run Soft Engine in demo mode, simply install and run
it without a Feature Key.

You must be able to provide the current location of AutoCAD in order for
Soft Engine to successfully install. You should also have your product
serial number available if you are installing the product for the first time.

i) Attach the Feature Key (dongle) to a parallel port.

ii) Place the Soft Engine disk 1 into the appropriate drive.

iii) From the Program Manager, choose File and select Run. Or from the
	Start menu, choose Run.

iv) Type the following: <drive>:\setup <enter>

v) Follow the instructions in the setup program carefully.

If you wish to use Soft Engine in more than one operating system on the same
machine, for example Windows 3.1 and Windows NT, you must install it separately
under each operating system you wish to use.

FEATURE KEY

The Vibrant Graphics Feature Key is a device that attaches to your computer's
parallel/printer port and enables the use of Soft Engine. It is recommended
that you attach the device to your computer BEFORE starting the Soft Engine
setup. This will help avoid any possible feature key-related problems.

If your Feature Key is installed on a network server select the Security tab
from the Soft Engine Configuration dialog (type secfg) and mark the Network
Hasp box.
For more information see the documentation on the Vibrant Network Utilities
Disk.

In any event that you do forget to attach the Feature Key, Soft Engine will
always give you the choice to retry a query to the key or to configure for
another display driver for AutoCAD.

If Soft Engine is started without a Feature Key in place it will enter a
demo mode that will allow you to try Soft Engine for twenty minutes.

If you have any questions or comments about the SETUP or any of Vibrant
Graphics' products, please call:

2. About Microsoft WinG

Microsoft WinG is a library of video functions that allow Soft Engine to
provide a significant speed boost when used in CPU Graphics mode.

We recommend you install WinG to get the highest level of performance
possible.

WinG is not required if you do not use CPU Graphics mode.

You will be given the option of installing WinG as part of your Soft Engine
installation.

Some Windows drivers are not fully compatible with WinG. See section 4 of
this file for known incompatibilities.

If you are experience video difficulties after installing WinG you may remove
it as follows:

Delete the following files from your Windows\system directory:

WING.DLL
WING32.DLL
WINGDE.DLL
WINGDIB.DRV
WINGPAL.WND

In your win.ini file delete everything under the heading [WinG] then restart
Windows.

3. About Microsoft Win 32s

**AutoCAD R13c3 IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH Win32s v.1.3. Be sure to use v.1.25a**

Soft Engine is a 32-bit application designed to run on 32-bit operating
systems such as Windows 95 and Windows NT.

Microsoft has developed a library of functions called Win 32s that allows
some 32-bit applications (like Soft Engine) to run under 16-bit Windows 3.1x.
AutoCAD R13 is another 32-bit application that uses Win 32s to run under
Windows 3.1x.

If you want to run Soft Engine under Windows 3.1x you must first install
Win 32s. If you are using AutoCAD R13 you have probably already done this.
Be sure you are using version 1.25a.

Win 32s is not required under Windows 95 or Windows NT since they are 32-bit
operating systems.

4. Known problems

	1. When reconfiguring your AutoCAD R12 display device from Soft Engine
with the scroll bars enabled to another display device, you must go
through the configuration selection twice. If you do not Soft Engine will
remain selected as your display device. This is due to the way AutoCAD
R12 handles scroll bars in Windows.
You may avoid this by typing SESB from the command line to turn off
Soft Engine's scroll bars before you configure for a different display
	device.

	2. In Windows 3.1x, pressing F1 does not bring up help for SECONFIG in
AutoCAD R12. You should use the help button.

	3. When using WinG in AutoCAD R12 the command line scrolling area to the
right of the text may not redraw correctly in rare instances. You may
clear this by resizing the AutoCAD window or prevent it entirely by
selecting Video Card Graphics as the display method in SECONFIG.

	4. We have had reports of WinG incompatibilities with the following video
boards. If you experience difficulties remove WinG as described in
section 3 of this file. In the Soft Engine configuration change your
redraw method from CPU Graphics to Redraw.

	--Number Nine Motion 771
	--Number Nine Turbo Copy
	--ATI VGA Wonder
	--ATI crystal fonts

	5. There is a bug in the Autodesk Windows Accelerated Display Driver 4.2
in R12 that may cause it to fail to display the results of Bench 12+
under Windows NT. If you encounter this, type REINIT and then select
	DISPLAY to see the results.

	6. The Number Nine Imagine 128 Windows 3.1x driver is not fully compatible
with some AutoCAD drivers. You must disable GDI bypass from SECONFIG
for the driver to function correctly with Soft Engine.
Additionally, some versions of the Number Nine driver will display
the AutoCAD cursors incorrectly. For the latest Imagine 128 Windows
	drivers contact Number Nine.
