GENTRAN:Mentor
Product Release Notes

The purpose of the readme file is to explain the enhancements and product
updates included in each point release. For each release, enhancements are
described first. Next, programs/files are listed in alphabetical order
within each release. The readme file is cumulative from the last major
release (in this case Mentor 1.3).

Product:	GENTRAN:Mentor
Point Release:	1.3-8
Date: 12/03/96

Your current processing should not be affected by installing the 1.3-8
point release enhancements described below:

ENHANCEMENT DESCRIPTION:

Three new standards are a part of the product distribution. They are:
X12 Version 3 Release 2 Subrelease 2 (003022), TDCC Ocean Version 2
Release 8 (C2_8__), and UCS Version 3 Release 6 (U3_6__).

ENHANCEMENT DESCRIPTION:

The Functional Acknowledgement Report program (fareport) now includes a
new parameter value to the existing argument '-U' to allow you to request
printing of document records with an acknowledgement status of LATE. To
print these records, use the parameter 'O'.

Syntax: fareport o -UO

ENHANCEMENT DESCRIPTION:

The Functional Acknowledgement Report program's existing argument
parameter value of 'Y' has been replaced with two new parameter values.
In the past, the parameter value 'Y' was used to print document records
with an acknowledgement status of either 'Waiting' or 'Not Expected'.
These have now been split into two separate parameter values. Use the
parameter value 'W' to print document records that are waiting for an
acknowledged to arrive while it is still within the stated waiting period.
Use the parameter value 'N' to print document records that do not expect
an acknowledgement to arrive.

Syntax: fareport o -UW
         fareport o -UN

ENHANCEMENT DESCRIPTION:

The translator program (lftran) now lets the user select the version of
the EDIFACT CONTRL message that they would like generated during inbound
translation. The new command line parameter (M#) allows you to specify the
format of any generated CONTRL messages. There are currently two defined
formats; the original and one published in 1993. In the past, the format
of the generated document was selected based on the version number of the
document being acknowledged. Mentor continues to operate in the same
manner if you do not select the new parameter. This parameter specifies
the format that is to be used for that execution of the translator. To
select the original format, use the parameter 'M1'. To select the 1993
format, use the parameter 'M2'.

Syntax: lftran infile -iM1
	 lftran infile -iM2

ENHANCEMENT DESCRIPTION:

The translator program (lftran) now supports a GS group envelope segment
without sender and receiver ids. GENTRAN:Mentor normally uses these
fields along with the interchange envelope sender and receiver ids to find
a unique trading partnership record. Now, when GENTRAN:Mentor cannot find
these fields, the translator uses the interchange values for both sets of
ids in order to find the trading partnership record. This logic is the
same as that used for EDIFACT data when there is no group level envelope
(UNG/UNE).

ENHANCEMENT DESCRIPTION:

The Translation process now better supports concurrent processing
requirements when unique control numbers are not required. Although
most customers require control number integrity in the Trading Partnership
File, you may be able to take advantage of some of the enhancements. These
enhancements are for the UNIX platforms only.

Concurrent processing within the same environment may be necessary if you
have a multi-user application that is initiating the translation process
on demand rather than as a batch process. In this scenario, writing
simultaneously to the many text output files used by the translation
process programs would result in corrupted files. To eliminate this,
make use of the new environment variables that allow you to specify the
file names. Then at runtime you can provide filenames using a combination
of date, time, process id, etc.

The drawback to this approach is the control numbers. You need to
sacrifice either processing time (waiting on Trading Partnership records
locked by another translator) or control number sequencing. If you choose
not to wait on locked Trading Partnership records (by using the new lftran
parameter to not lock TP records), then you will either get non-unique
numbers, or your application will have to provide a control number to the
translator.

The following enhancements support the additional capabilities described
above:

The formin program now supports environment variables that can override
the default output file names. Use of these variables allows multiple
concurrent executions of the program within the same environment. You
must set the environment variables to both the path and file name of the
files to be opened. The following environment variables are recognized:

XLCNTLERR	Name of the error message log file (default is xlcntl.err)
FORMINNOT	Name of the output file containing all characters outside
of the interchange envelope or invalid/incomplete
                interchanges (default is formin.not)

A new command line parameter (L#) recently added to the translator
program (lftran) specifies the amount of time it should wait for a
locked trading partner record. Replace the '#' with the number of
seconds the program should wait for the record to be released.
Previously, the translator would not wait for a locked record, but
would immediately report an error. With the use of this parameter,
the translator will wait up to # seconds for the record to be released.

Syntax: lftran infile -oL3
         lftran infile -iL3

A new command line parameter (U) recently added to the translator program
(lftran) specifies that Trading Partner records should not be locked.
This enhancement provides maximum throughput during the translation
process; the translator never locks a Trading Partner record. When you
use this parameter, GENTRAN:Mentor cannot guarantee unique control numbers.
Control numbers used cannot be written back to the Trading Partnership
record. However, you may maintain unique control numbers by creating
a customized script using the new environment variable, XLCTLNUM,
described below.

Syntax: lftran infile -oU
         lftran infile -iU

The translator program (lftran) now supports a number of environment
variables that can override the default name of the translation output
files. You must set the environment variables to both the path and
name of the file to be opened. These optional environment variables can
ensure file integrity when you want to run concurrent translations within
the same environment. One other variable has been added to allow the
control number to be passed to the translator instead of being generated
from the Trading Partnership file. The translator recognizes the
following variables:

AUDITI Specifies the name of the local audit file for inbound records
            (default file name is audit.i)

AUDITO Specifies the name of the local audit file for outbound records
            (default file name is audit.o)

BOXINERR Specifies the name of the file to contain the input EDI data
for sets in error (default file name is boxin.err)

BOXINLOK Specifies the name of the file to contain the input EDI data
for sets where the Trading Partnership record was locked
            (default file name is boxin.lok)

BOXOUTERR Specifies the name of the file to contain the input application
data for sets in error (default file name is boxout.err)

BOXOUTLOK Specifies the name of the file to contain the input application
data for sets where the Trading Partnership record was locked
            (default file name is boxout.lok)

CMPLERR Specifies the name of the compliance error temporary file
            (default file name is cmplerr.tmp)

XLCNTLERR Specifies the name of the message file (default file name is
            xlcntl.err)

XLCTLNUM Specifies the number to use for both the interchange and group
control numbers. This number, considered the 'last used', and
adding one gives the first interchange control number. For
each interchange envelope created during the same translation
session, GENTRAN:Mentor increments this number. GENTRAN:Mentor
does not write this number back to the Trading Partnership
            record.

The following programs have been updated according to reported customer
issues. Your current processing should not be affected by installing the
1.3-8 point release changes described below:

Program: arcset
Modified to ignore the audit.o records generated by the translator
in the GENTRAN:Server for UNIX environment for application to
application type translations. There will be no archiving of the
application data. The local audit.o file is available for your own
processing or available to GENTRAN:Server for UNIX's Lifecycle module.

Program: envelope
Modified to ignore the audit.o records generated by the translator in
the GENTRAN:Server for UNIX environments for application to application
type translations. There will be no processing of these records.

Program: fareport
Modified the report to correctly print records that are not expecting
    an acknowledgement to arrive.

Program: fa_form
Modified the placement of the focus bar so that it is never placed on
    a blank line.

Increased the number of records that GENTRAN:Mentor can display on the
main screen. The screen display limit is now 2500 records on Windows
    and 5000 records on UNIX.

Program: formin
Corrected a problem that resulted from the interchange header segment
terminating at the end of the internal memory buffer. The program
now checks for this condition before performing calculations.

Program: lftran
Modified the translator to create audit.o records for application to
application translations in the GENTRAN:Server for UNIX environment.
This enhancement allows the GENTRAN:Server for UNIX product's
Lifecycle database to be updated with information for these types of
    translations.

Modified the translator to not open a standard version codes file when
it is performing an application to application translation, even if
the option to validate codes is used.

Modified the translator to reject all sets in an interchange or group
if it encounters an error in the interchange or group envelope header
segment. If an error is found, the EDI data will be written to the
boxin.err file, just as it always has for sets in error.

Modified the translator to handle a delimited application where the
first record has no field marked as a record id. In this case, the
translator assumes that the offset to the record id is zero.

Modified the translator to give only a 'failed to open the SQL file'
error for application to application database translation if it can
find an SQL file for neither the input nor the output application file.
Because there is no way to indicate to the translator whether the
input or output is a database, the translator must determine that by
opening the associated SQL file. In previous versions, the translator
reported an error message for the side that was not a database
    application.

Modified the translator to handle the case where the control number in
the organization record is longer than the maximum length of the
control number field in the interchange and/or group envelope segment
being generated. The translator takes the first x characters for the
control number, where x is the maximum allowable length of the control
number being generated. The organization record will then be updated
    to contain only x characters.

Modified the translator to treat a numeric field consisting of all
spaces as an empty field, instead of as a field with a value of zero.
These types of fields will now cause an application data error to be
written to the error message file.

Modified the translator to verify the success of each memory allocation.
When any allocation fails, the program writes an error message to the
error message log file (xlcntl.err) and exits gracefully.

Modified the translator to no longer use the reconciliation id values
when reading organization records. This processing, done for EDI data
being generated with a BG interchange header, was causing the
translator to read the incorrect organization record.

Program: mentor
Modified the auto trim process to perform a case insensitive comparison
of the standard type contained in the map being processed.

Modified the menu program to provide a single error message when the
temporary directory defined in the mentor configuration file
    (mentor.cfg) does not exist.

Modified the warning message displayed when deleting a mandatory
    element to 'Delete Marked Warning'.

Modified the warning message displayed when attempting to paste a
composite element into another composite element to 'Attempt to paste
a composite element into another composite element not allowed'.

Modified the warning message displayed when attempting to cut a
component from a composite element to 'The sub-elements (or components)
of a composite element cannot be individually cut; cut the composite
    element instead.'

Program: orgfm
Modified the organization file maintenance program to close the
Trading Partnership File before executing the organization file
print program to prevent file conflicts on the Windows platform.

Program: tpfm
Modified the Trading Partnership File maintenance program to verify
that the punctuation characters defined on the Outbound Information
screen, are all unique if defining a UNB interchange header. An
error message is displayed if they are not found to be unique.

Modified the Trading Partnership File maintenance program to verify
that the punctuation character fields are all populated when the
interchange header being defined is not UNB. The fields are allowed
to be empty for the UNB interchange header because there are default
    values for the UNB.

Modified the F5 key label on the main screen of the Trading Partnership
File maintenance program to be MELD instead of FIND in a
    GENTRAN:Server for UNIX environment.

Program: tp_srch
Modified the table name comparison to be case insensitive on Windows.

Files:	003020.CND, 003030.CND
Created the conditional rules for the CSH segment to be 'If element
2 exists, must have element 3' instead of 'Must have either element
    2 or 3'.

Files:	002001.std, 003020.std, 003030.std, 003031.std, 003032.std, 003040.std,
        003051.std, 003052.std, 003060.std
Modified the description contained in the X12 standards files from
    'ANSI X12 VERSION .....' to 'X12 VERSION....'. The Standard/IG
Editor makes some decisions based on the standard type, which it
determines from the description. The editor recognizes the standard
as X12 if it finds 'X12' at the start of the description.

==========================================================================

Platform: GENTRAN:Mentor
Release: 1.3-7
Date: 10/03/96

Program: arcset

Modified to not interpret a UNT segment as end of set unless EDIFACT
    data is being processed.

The archive program was modified to handle an 8 character time.

Program: audmv

The file, xlaudpg.tmp, that is created by this program during the audit/
archive compress process did not consistently produce a complete list of
.arc files on all platforms. The program was modified to produce an
    accurate file on all platforms.

Program: audview

When resending data, the program was occasionally passing random
characters as the override output filename to the resend program. The
program has been corrected to insure that the override output filename
will only be used if the user enters data in the field.

Program: fa_form

When changing the status of records to Verbal Ok or Verbal Err, the
program was not releasing all locked records if there were multiple
messages/sets in an interchange. This caused an error after
approximately 15 records were left locked. The program has been
modified to release all records that are updated with the new status.

The Partner's Code column on the screen did not always contain the
partner's interchange code. The program has been modified to populate
this column with the interchange sender's id if the document was
received, and the interchange receiver's id if the document was sent.

The fa_form program was modified to handle an 8 character time.

Program: func_id.txt

Corrected the functional id value associated with the 996 message / set
id that is displayed in the trading partner maintenance outbound
functional group screen to be "FT"

Program: hex_cl.txt, hex_desc.txt

Added the value 98 to the choice list of valid punctuation characters
that is displayed in the trading partner maintenance outbound screen.

Program: formin

The formin program produced an error message if the last interchange in
the input file was missing the interchange trailer segment. This has
been enhanced to report the same error message if any interchange in the
input file is missing the interchange trailer segment.

Program: lftran

The translator has been enhanced to improve the process of calculating
output values in the Decrement Date/Time function.

Enhanced decimal character processing when performing standard to
standard translation with EDIFACT and non-EDIFACT data using different
    decimal characters.

Added support for mapping from the ICS interchange header segment.
Special processing was required because this is a segment that does not
    contain element separators.

Decimal numbers ending in 5 were being truncated to the defined output
length (i.e., 0.495 to 0.49). This process was modified to round these
    numbers correctly (i.e., 0.495 to 0.50).

During creation of Tradcoms data, the number of included messages
reported in the TOT segment of the INVTLR message was incorrect.

The IBM Reconciliation processing was modified to equate the status code
"C2" to the more accurate "A-Accepted" instead of "D-Delivered".

A new parameter (-l) was added to the translator to allow writing of
output records containing only literal or 0-1 mappings. If this
parameter is not used, output records that consist entirely of literal
or 0-1 mappings will not be written to the output file.

Program: mass_add, mass_cng, mass_del, xlcntl

The programs above were modified to handle an 8 character time.

Program: mentor1 (UNIX runtime only)

When a full copy of Mentor was running in the same environment as a
runtime copy and the directory preferences were modified using the
runtime version, the full copy's user preference values became corrupt.
This type of scenario normally only occurred in a GENTRAN:Server
environment. The runtime menu program was modified to preserve the user
preference values when modifying the directory preferences

Program: orgunld

The Selective Unload of Organizations by Trading Partner Code program
would not properly unload records for TP codes that contained embedded
spaces. The program was modified to support these types of TP codes.

Program: tpfm

The tpfm program was modified to handle an 8 character time.

Program: xlaudpg

The file, xlaudpg.fil, that is created by this program during the audit/
archive compress process did not consistently produce a complete list of
.arc files on all platforms. The program was modified to produce an
    accurate file on all platforms.

==========================================================================

Platform Name: GENTRAN:Mentor
Release Version: 1.3-6
Release Date: 09/10/96

Program: arcset
Eliminated abnormal termination that was occasionally occurring during
processing of IBM and INS Network reconciliation records.

Now prints correct message id in all Audit Record Not Found error
    messages.

Program: envelope
Program has been enhanced to continue processing after encountering an
audit record where the Trading Partner record cannot be read.

Modified to more efficiently update the audit records with new filename
and offset. Processing times are substantially improved on interchanges
with a large number of sets.

Program: formin
Enhanced to report an error 387 when the segment id is less than 2 or
    longer than 3 characters.

Corrected to write the entire interchange to formin.not file when the
-b option is used and lowercase letters exist.

Enhanced the -b option to verify against a list of valid UNOA characters
    instead of just lowercase letters.

Program: lftran
Generation of the ST control number during Standard to Standard (STD2STD)
    translations has been corrected.

997 Functional Acknowledgments are now standard compliant for all
versions of the standards. Previously, there were some discrepancies
    with version 003050 and above.

Modified to check the internal duplicate map count when creating new
output node to eliminate occasional GPF.

Distinguish between missing and invalid dates to support Not Data Found
    In on dates.

Enhance generating of STX segment to support time lengths larger than 4
characters. Will now put out length equal to the length defined in the
    Trading Partner record.

Corrected loading of very large translation tables. Occasionally caused
    the translator to terminate abnormally.

Corrected time validation to support 00-99 for hundreds of a second.
Previously rejected times where the hundreds of a second was greater
    than 59.

Corrected code validate of code #0103, which is a 2 part code. The 2
    parts are now validated separately.

Modified to save the override database name passed on the command line
for outbound translation. Previously ignored the passed database name
    during outbound translation.

For Standard to Standard (STD2STD) translations, the control numbers for
the output side are now correctly generated from the output Trading
    Partner record.

Implemented a new argument (`S') to optionally treat control number
sequence warning as an error and write input data to boxin.err.

No longer will print incorrect Missing Mandatory Segment messages on the
way to determining that a record is unexpected.

Various corrections to the IBM and INS network reconciliation message
processing as a result of International testing.

Modified conditional compliance checking rule "Only one of xx and xx..."
to not reject if neither element exists.

Will no longer give incorrect Unexpected Record messages when multiple
Odette messages arrive within the same interchange envelope.

Corrected the values written to the Interchange Trailer segment EG when
interchanges utilizing other envelope structures are within the same
    translation run.

Eliminated incorrect Missing Mandatory Segment messages during outbound
    translation of automatically generated segments.

No longer terminates abnormally when reaching the last field of a record
    while generating output records.

Will now perform conditional compliance checking on Standard to
    Application translations.

Program: tpfm
Corrected wording of error message when map file cannot be opened.

Locked records are released when moving to the next/previous record.

Program: transrpt
Program has been enhanced to allow specifying of the number of lines per
page. The new option for this is -L#, where # is the number of lines to
be written on a page. The default is 60.

File: 003020.std, 003030.std, 003031.std, 003032.std, 003040.std,
          003051.std, 003052.std, 003060.std
Minor changes were made to correct typos.

File: ANA1_8.std, ANA1_9.std
Corrected the characteristics of the components of the DELN composite
    element in the SRMHDR message.

Changes to GENTRAN:Mentor
Version 1.3 August 12, 1996

This document describes changes made to GENTRAN:Mentor version
1.3 and released as patch 1.3-5.

Patch 1.3-5 includes the following files on Windows and UNIX:

  003020.std bg2recid mass_del
  003040.std D93A.std mentor
  003051.std D94A.std S93A.std
  003052.std D94B.std recmv
  003060.std D95A.std recreate
  ANA1_8.std D95B.std tpfm
  ANA1_9.std fareport tpmaint.vvd
  arcset lftran unloadtp
  audview loadtpf xlrsnd

Enhancements

Arcset

Changed arcset so that the error message saying an Audit
record cannot be found includes the control number of the
interchange for which an Audit record cannot be found.

Audview

Changed audview so that you can specify the output file name
(with complete path) of the file you are creating for resend
data or adding resend data to. You specify this information in
a new field, Path/File Name, on the Resend/Increment Control
Number dialog box.

Fareport

Changed fareport to enable you to request an additional line
after each item in the report by using a new parameter, 'A'.
This causes fareport to add the translation and functional
acknowledgement dates and times after each item.

Lftran

Changed lftran to add the -l parameter to instruct the
translator not to create records/segments that consist of only
0-to-1 (or literal) mappings.

Recmv

Added the capability of loading and unloading recid.dat/.idx
files and created a command line program, recmv, to enable you
to use this capability.

Recreate

Added a new file, recid.dat/.idx, to hold reconciliation IDs and
created a command line program, recreate, to enable you to create
the new file if necessary. The recid.dat/.idx file resides in the
directory specified for trading partner files.

Trading Partner Maintenance

Changed Trading Partner Maintenance to enable you to specify
reconciliation IDs on the ISA, UNB, and STX interchange header
segments, as well as on the BG interchange header segment. You
need to specify reconciliation IDs when the IDs in the functional
acknowledgement differ from those in the document sent. This
change involved modifications to the interchange information
screens for the BG, ISA, UNB, and STX interchange headers and the
addition of the Reconciliation IDs screen, a screen specifically
for recording reconciliation IDs. There is now a new file,
recid.dat/.idx, to hold the reconciliation IDs. Like all trading
partner files, the recid.dat/.idx file resides in the directory
specified for trading partner files.

NOTE:	If you have any Trading Partnership records that include
reconciliation IDs for BG interchange headers, you need
to run a conversion program, Bg2Recid. This conversion
program moves the BG reconciliation IDs from the tp.dat/
.idx file into the recid.dat/.idx file.

You may want to add reconciliation IDs for any ISA, UNB,
and STX interchange headers edited in your Trading
        Partnership records.

Changed trading partner maintenance to delete the relevant
reconciliation IDs from the recid.dat/.idx file when deleting the
corresponding Trading Partnership records from the tp.dat/.idx
file and (perhaps) the tradacom.dat/.idx file.

Changed trading partner maintenance to load (or unload) the
relevant reconciliation IDs from the recid.dat/.idx file when
using the menu to load (or unload) the corresponding Trading
Partnership records from the tp.dat/.idx file and (perhaps) the
tradacom.dat/.idx file.

Translator

Changed translator to read reconciliation IDs from the recid.dat/
.idx file instead of from the tp.dat/.idx file.

Xlrsnd

Changed xlrsnd so that it displays the following error message
when it cannot find the Audit record for the original data when
you are resending data:

343: Audit record not found. Audit.o not created for
	   resend data.
Audit record for original data was not found.

Changed xlrsnd so that it displays one or both of the following
error messages when there is a mismatch between the Organization
records and the IDs used in resend:

364: Interchange Organization record not found.
Your Interchange ID: <your Interchange ID>
	   Partner's Interchange ID: <partner's Interchange ID>

365: Group Organization record not found.
Your Interchange ID: <your Interchange ID>
	   Partner's Interchange ID: <partner's Interchange ID>
Your Application ID: <your group ID>
	   Partner's Application ID: <partner's group ID>

Changed xlrsnd so that you can resend TRADACOMS data.

Fixes

Application Editor

Changed Application Editor so that all date fields in database
application descriptions have a minimum of ten characters, so that
numeric fields have the proper length when they include decimal
positions, and so that character fields have the proper length.

Audview

Changed audview so that it overwrites the xlcntl.err file only
after you have resent data, resend has incremented the control
numbers, and you have chosen to archive the data.

Main Window

Changed the Main Window so that the hot key for Print Setup in
the File menu is now 'P' instead of 'r', which is the hot key for
Rename in the File menu.

Changed the Main Window so that the window containing the list of
application descriptions (displayed when you select File/List/
Application Description) now has the title 'Application File
Listing' and the total line 'Total Application Files Found',
instead of having the title and total line refer to IGs.

Standard/IG Editor

Changed Standard/IG Editor so that the focus automatically moves
from the Std Ver column to the Document column in the Select
Standard/IG window on UNIX.

Changed Standard/IG Editor so that, when UNIX users open the
Standard/IG Editor while they do not have read permission for the
standards, they receive the following error message:

	Standards Load Error
	Can't open <file name>, check file permissions.

Standards

Changed TRADACOMS standard versions 8 and 9 to make numeric
fields (R [real] data types) have data types of N (implied).
TRADACOMS does not support R data types.

Changed the following standards to correct the GS02 and GS03 ID
lengths:

  003020
  003040
  003051
  003052
  003060

Changed the following standards to correct composite element
requirements:

  D93A
  D94A
  D94B
  D95A
  D95B
  S93A

Synonym and Thesaurus Editors

Changed Synonym and Thesaurus Editors so that the error message
displayed when the original value is invalid reads "Invalid Original
Value data" and the error message displayed when the substitute
value is invalid reads "Invalid Substitute Value data".

Trading Partner Maintenance

Changed trading partner maintenance to display the subelement
separator from the Outbound Translation Information screen in the
element 16 field (sub-element separator) for the ISA segment in the
ISA Interchange Information screen. You can no longer edit the
element 16 field.

Translator

Changed translator so that the Select File dialog box reached from
both the Translate Inbound Documents dialog box and the Translate
Outbound Documents dialog box defaults to the directory specified
for GENTRAN:Mentor data, instead of the current working directory.

Changed inbound translator to modify xlcntl.err file created
after standard-to-standard translation. The xlcntl.err file now
includes a header separating errors in the input file from errors
in the output file.

Changed translator to modify xlcntl.err so that all compliance
error messages (if any) appear after the end of all messages for
a single set.

Changed translator to modify xlcntl.err so that the processing
message does not contain a message number when debugging has been
selected.

Changed translator so that it can process a single input file
containing some Trading Partnership records that have wildcards
and some that do not. The translator first searches for a Trading
Partnership record that is a complete match and then searches for
a Trading Partnership record that matches all but wildcarded fields.

Changed translator so that it correctly checks and processes
conditional segments and elements.

Changed translator to use the Interchange IDs for the Group IDs in
the Audit record for translations using TRADACOMS standard versions
since GENTRAN:Mentor does not require Group IDs for reconciliation
when using TRADACOMS standard versions.

Changed translator to treat conditional compliance check errors the
same as other compliance check errors when generating a functional
acknowledgement and archiving/not archiving the EDI data. Therefore,
when you enter 'Y' in the 'Accept sets with errors' field,
conditional compliance check errors cause the functional
acknowledgement to have a code of 'E', but allows archiving of
the inbound data and generation of the outbound data. When you
enter 'N' in the 'Accept sets with errors' field, conditional
compliance check errors cause the functional acknowledgement to
have a code of 'R' and disallows the archiving of the inbound data
and generation of the outbound data.

Changed translator to flag as a compliance check error segments that
exceed the repetition limit.

Changed translator to copy the functional acknowledgement date and
time from the LST segment, instead of from the STX segment, for INS
reconciliation for TRADACOMS data.

Changed translator so that it properly processes a single input file
containing some Trading Partnership records that have the compliance
check field selected and some that do not. The translator now resets
the translation parameters when the input data begins to reference
another Trading Partnership record, rather than retaining the
translation parameters used in the first Trading Partnership record
referenced.

Visual Mapper (Mapping Instructions)

Changed Visual Mapper mapping instructions (expert mode) so that it
can detect when the semi-colon (;) is in the wrong place or omitted
and issue an error message.

Changed Visual Mapper mapping instructions so that empty mapping
instructions cannot be saved.

Changed Visual Mapper so that when a mini-mapping report is
displayed for a mapping and you highlight a group in the
mini-mapping report, all commands on the Map Items menu remain
available after you go to the Mapping Instructions window and
click on Done.

Changed Visual Mapper so that the 'Compilation complete' message
appears after compilation is complete.

Xlrsnd

Changed xlrsnd so that using -I+-G+-S+ to increment the control
numbers displays a prompt asking for the data to be archived.

Changed xlrsnd so that the first element in the ICS segment
generated by resending ICS data is correct and without leading
blanks when you increment control numbers and archive the data.

Changed xlrsnd so that the fourth, fifth, and sixth elements in
the BG segment generated by resending BG data are valid when you
do not increment the control numbers.

Changed xlrsnd so that the fifth element in the GS segment
generated by resending GS data is valid.

Changed xlrsnd so that you can use any combination of parameters.

Changed xlrsnd so that you can resend data with control numbers
up to the maximum allowed by the standard version.

Changes to GENTRAN:Mentor
Version 1.3 July 1, 1996

This document describes changes made to GENTRAN:Mentor version
1.3 and released as patch 1.3-4.

Patch 1.3-4 includes the following files on Windows and UNIX:

002001.std envscope
U3_4__.std lftran
003050.std mentor
envelope

Fixes

Copyright Screen

Changed the copyright screen to search for the tranvers.tmp file
in lowercase in the directory that holds GENTRAN:Mentor temporary
files.

Envelope

Changed envelope to check the Maintain Control Numbers Globally
switch before combining interchanges for Trading Partnerships for
the same organization, combining only interchanges for Trading
Partnerships that have the Maintain Control Numbers Globally
switch set to the same and the 'One interchange per file' switch
set to Yes.

Changed envelope to no longer combine interchanges with different
envelope types.

Envscope

Changed envscope to display new fields global and no_ung to
support changes to envelope.

Standards

Changed UCS U3_4__ standard version to use ISA/IEA instead of
BG/EG for enveloping interchanges.

Changed X12 003050 standard version for 834 document (Benefit
Enrollment and Maintenance), to correct the loop count for the
INS loop. It is now 999999 instead of 1.

Changed X12 002001 standard version to correct maximum length
for the GS05 element. It is now 4 characters instead of 8.

Translator

Changed translator to create the temporary file tranvers.tmp
in lowercase for consistency with other files.

Changed translator to stop adding extra element separators at
the end of TYP segments when one or more of the last elements
are empty.

Changed translator to use the correct trailer message version
number and VAT trailer message version number in MHD segments.

Changed inbound translator to compare the RSG02 element to the
receiver ID (instead of the sender ID) in the STX segment.

Changed outbound translator to use the receiver ID (instead of
the sender ID) in the RSG02 element.

Changed translator (lftran command line program only) to
include a switch (-E) that stops writing application data
messages to xlcntl.err.

Changed translator to stop issuing error messages when Append
to Filename is selected in both the Trading Partnership record
and in the Translate Outbound Documents dialog box (or command
line argument). The setting and argument (i.e., T, P, or T/P)
used in the dialog box is the default for translation when set
in both places.

Changed translator to maintain the data type of a system
variable through all uses of the variable.

Changed translator to issue only one application data error
messages for each error in the application data. Translator
previously issued two messages for a date field with invalid
data.

Visual Mapper

Changed Visual Mapper to accept longest legal synonym list
name (i.e., 19 characters).

Changes to GENTRAN:Mentor
Version 1.3 June 17, 1996

This document describes changes made to GENTRAN:Mentor version
1.3 and released as patch 1.3-3.

Patch 1.3-3 includes the following files on Windows and UNIX:

arcset lftran
audview formin
fa_form

Enhancements

Translator

Changed translator to specify the invalid set's control number
as part of the invalid set count message and to specify the
invalid group's control number as part of the invalid group
count message.

Fixes

Arcset

Changed arcset to archive all data and not GPF when receiving
a document 999 (functional acknowledgement) in response to a
document 999.

Changed arcset to properly archive inbound document 999
(functional acknowledgement) when there is a B5 segment with
no set ID and a set control number from the A2 segment.

Audview

Changed audview to access sets properly after resending
previously accessed sets.

Fa_form

Changed fa_form to respond properly to F2 key (i.e., to
display late items) in FA Reconciliation window.

Formin

Changed formin to see lowercase letters as invalid data
separators.

Translator

Changed translator to write a '2' to the result field of the
Audit record when the 'Accept Sets with Errors' switch is set
to Yes in the Trading Partnership record, thus forcing arcset
to archive sets with errors when the 'Accept Sets with Errors'
switch is set to Yes.

Changed inbound translator to accept UCS formatted control
numbers without displaying an invalid sequence error message.

Changed inbound translator to properly archive the inbound
standard when translating standard to standard.

Changed translator to use an error status of 'E' in a document
997 (functional acknowledgement) generated in response to a set
with compliance errors when the Trading Partnership record has
the 'Accept Sets with Errors' switch set to Yes.

Changed outbound translator to stop creating segments with no
elements other than the segment ID.

Changed translator to generate UCS-formatted control numbers
for all UCS versions regardless of whether or not they use BG
envelopes.

Changed inbound translator to stop displaying erroneous
truncation error message.

Changed inbound translator to modify handling of destination
numeric fields to use the number of decimal positions from the
input field when the destination format does not specify the
number of decimal positions.

Changed translator to display the correct segment ID (i.e.,
'TAX' instead of 'TXS') in the EDIFACT TAXCON message based on
the standard version.

Changes to GENTRAN:Mentor
Version 1.3 June 3, 1996

This document describes changes made to GENTRAN:Mentor version
1.3 and released as patch 1.3-2.

Patch 1.3-2 includes the following files on Windows and UNIX:

002001.cds 003060.std 003060.txt
003020.std 003060.cds lftran
003040.std 003060.cnd xlrsnd

Important:	You must reload all standards that have been
updated and that you have on your machine.

Fixes

Standards

Changed X12 standard versions 003020 and 003040 to correctly
identify and describe ISA11, thus avoiding invalid compliance
errors.

Changed X12 standard version 002001.cds file to include all
necessary codes.

Translator

Changed outbound translator to trim leading zeros (i.e., those
to the left of the decimal point) to one, instead of none for
1<n>-1, where n is a real number.

Changed outbound translator so that it no longer loses data
or miscounts sets if there are no string delimiters around the
Trading Partnership Code when the field is delimited and
character strings are also delimited.

Changed translator to properly read the names of existing
environmental variables, thus avoiding incorrectly initializing
to zero existing environmental variables.

Changed outbound translator to check for a valid date before
checking the truncation length, avoiding invalid truncation
errors when the real problem is invalid or missing data.

Changed inbound translator to create AK9 properly so that the
first field/element is the functional acknowledgement code and
the second and third fields/elements display the correct set
counts.

Changed outbound translator to evaluate accurately whether or
not a missing record is mandatory when it is part of a loop and
to issue only one message and that only if valid.

Changed outbound translator to re-initialize flags at the start
of each document, thus avoiding invalid Unexpected Record
messages.

Changed translator to read the VAT number from the invoice
detail section for EDIFACT and TRADACOMS TAXCONs and to
reference the buyer's VAT number for EDIFACT TAXCON.

Changed translator to check LS/LE loop IDs both as strings and
as numbers (for example, 0100 would not match 100 as a string,
but it would match as a number).

Changed inbound translator to correctly identify field in error
when issuing message 049 (application data error).

Changed translator to stop adding extra spaces to the field
before a blank field when outputting variable length data.

Changed inbound translator to eliminate GPFs when a system
variable passes a NULL pointer.

Changed translator to sum elements properly for the VRS segment
regardless of whether TRADACOMS version 8 or version 9 is used.

Xlrsnd

Changed xlrsnd (resend program) to correctly time stamp the GS
segment and to stop changing the Set ID in the Trading
Partnership record to 997 when resending a 997 (functional
acknowledgement).

Changes to GENTRAN:Mentor
Version 1.3 April 29, 1996

This document describes changes made to GENTRAN:Mentor version
1.3 and released as patch 1.3-1.

Patch 1.3-1 includes the following files on Windows and UNIX:

002000.* 003050.* formin tphelp.txt
002001.* 003051.* hex_cl.txt tpmaint.vvd

003041.* evatrpt tp_list
003042.* fa_form tpfm

For all files with the .* extension, one or more of the following
files have been changed:

.std
.txt
.cds
.cnd

Reload all available files for standards you use.

You must have GENTRAN:Mentor 1.3 installed to use patch 1.3-1.

Important:	You must reload all standards that have been
updated and that you have on your machine. You
                must also re-compile all maps.

Enhancements

Compiler

Changed compiler so that it can more intelligently sort mapping
instructions for each record/segment prior to translation, taking
into consideration more factors before arriving at the optimum
sort order. Specifically, the new alternative sort order is as
follows:

Mapping GROUP number
Screen order
Mapping statement order

Because this new sorting order can have a great impact on your
results, GENTRAN:Mentor uses it only when you request its use by
setting the environment variable TEMPSORT outside of Mentor and
Windows. To use the old sort order, do nothing; it is the default.
To use the new sorting order, issue the following command at a
DOS prompt with Windows closed before you compile the map:

    set TEMPSORT="do"

It is very likely that you will need to manually revise the order
of mapping statements in your mapping instructions.

To return to the old sorting order within the same DOS session,
close Windows and issue the following command at a DOS prompt
before you compile the map:

    set TEMPSORT=

Formin

Changed formin to include a new parameter, 'b.' When you use
this parameter and there are lowercase characters in EDIFACT
input data even though you are using the level A snytax, formin
writes an error message to xlcntl.err, writes the erroneous set
to formin.not, and omits the erroneous set from the output file.

Changed formin to include a new parameter, 'v.' When you use
this parameter and the set and/or the group count is invalid,
formin writes an error message to xlcntl.err, writes the
erroneous set/group to formin.not, and omits the erroneous
set/group from the output file.

Trading Partner Maintenance

Changed trading partner maintenance to now include on the STX
Interchange Header dialog box a switch for the length of the
outbound sender reference number (i.e., either 6 character
maximum [1-6] or 14 character maximum [1-14]).

Translator

Changed translator to determine the maximum occurrence of a
segment during compliance checking and to write a compliance
check error to xlcntl.err when the maximum occurrence exceeds
that permitted by the standard. (The message references the
control number of the set in error.) When the segment is the
start of a loop, the translator checks the maximum occurrence
of the loop, rather than that of the segment.

Changed translator to check conditional compliance when
compliance checking is selected and the standard includes
conditional rules (X12, USC, or TDCC standards only) and
to write a compliance check error to xlcntl.err when the
conditional element compliance check is violated.

Changed translator to consider missing mandatory loop as an
error, thus writing an error message to xlcntl.err and sets
in error to boxin.err or boxout.err and omitting sets in error
from the output file when Compliance Checking is set to 'yes'
and Generate Sets with Errors is set to 'no.'

Changed translator to improve wording of error message number
066. That error message now reads as follows:

	066	Unexpected Record: Record Number:
		<record number>
Possible segment out of order. This record
		will be ignored.

The part "Possible segment out of order" has been added to
help you determine the cause of the problem.

Changed translator to improve wording of error message number
060. That error message now reads as follows:

	060	Invalid segment count: SE01 = <number of
		segments counted>, Actual = <number of
		segments present>
		Set Control # <set control number>

The set control number has been added to help you locate the
problem.

Changed translator to generate either new (D93 or newer) or
old (pre-D93) CONTRL document for EDIFACT and ODETTE standards.

Changed inbound translator to verify message ID version against
the TRADACOMS version specified in the Header Message, issuing
an error message if they differ. That error message reads as
follows:

	107	Error: Message <message ID #> not
		contained in std release
		<message version #> = Message Version
		<standard version #> = Standard Version

The translator does this check only for TRADACOMS standards.

Changed lftran (command line program only) to include a 'w'
parameter, which writes all current records to the output file
(and xlcntl.err) as soon as a new copy (i.e., an additional
record of the same type [i.e., recordID]) is created. Use this
parameter when translating sets that are too large for the
memory available on your machine.

Changed lftran (command line program only) to do specific
flushing for mappings when you translate using the lftran
command line program with the 'F' parameter. (Flushing involves
using values from subsequent loops to fill empty fields in the
current record before creating a new record.) You indicate the
records/segments you want flushed by putting the word 'Flush'
at the beginning of the record/segment name field. Without the
'F' parameter, the translator always does loop flushing.

Fixes

Arcset

Changed arcset to archive all reconcilable transaction sets
instead of failing to archive one or more reconcilable
transaction sets because there is one or more irreconcilable
transaction sets.

Changed arcset to rename the audit.i file to audit.irr and/or
the audit.o file to audit.orr if arcset cannot open the
audit.dat/idx file.

Compiler

Changed the compiler to properly handle system variables that
include 'TO' (i.e., uppercase 'to') in the name.

Envelope

Changed envelope to write an error message to xlcntl.err when
it encounters a set in error.

Changed envelope to no longer pass the Audit record of a set
in error to arcset.

Formin

Changed formin to stop at the terminator when searching for
new line characters in interchange headers on UNIX.

Changed formin to write a partial interchange to formin.not
and omit the partial interchange from the output file when it
discovers a missing interchange trailer.

Changed formin to correct wording of error message number 100
when the standard version is EDIFACT and your trading partner
used an incorrect terminator for the syntax specified. That
error message now reads as follows:

	100	Possible header <header name> near
		<offset> rejected because:
		Defined Terminator <terminator> could not
		be found

Main Window

Changed Deploy/Translate Inbound Documents and Deploy/Translate
Outbound Documents dialog boxes so that the Find File
push-button next to the Source Path/Filename and the Input
Path/Filename text entry boxes default to the path specified
for data files in the Preferences/Location of Files dialog box
instead of to the current directory (Windows only).

Mentcomp

The correct invocation for mentcomp is now as follows for
Windows:

win : mentcomp -{o} {D} [f/l/c/p] {Q} {v}

and as follows for UNIX:

mentcomp -{o} [f/l/c/p] {Q} {v}

The 'd' parameter has been changed to 'p' to avoid conflicts on
UNIX operating systems.

Sncreate

Changed sncreate to write its error file into the directory
specified for temporary files, instead of into the current
directory.

Trading Partner Maintenance

Changed the choice list for the Set ID field on the main Trading
Partner Maintenance screen to correct the set ID and description
display.

Changed the choice list for the Decimal Character field (used
for EDIFACT standards only) on the Outbound Translation
Information screen to correct the character display.

Translator

Changed inbound translator to accept a comma as the decimal
point for EDIFACT standards.

Changed inbound translator to process NTE segments for TDCC,
VICS, WINS, and UCS standards, in addition to X12 standards.

Changed translator to correlate the correct qualifiers with
sender and receiver IDs entered for the UNB segment in the
Trading Partnership record.

Changed translator to check for extra component elements in
the last composite element of a segment during compliance
checking.

Changed translator to recognize a number with trailing spaces
as valid.

Changed translator to take the leading sign (i.e., + or -)
into account when processing implied decimal data.

Changed translator to properly initialize system variables
before translating each new interchange.

Changed outbound translator to translate the DT or TM data
type field of zeros in the source application description
into blanks when mapped to a fixed length field in a
destination application description.

Changed inbound translator to translate the DT or TM data
type element of zeros in the source implementation guide into
a null when mapped to an element in a destination
implementation guide.

Changed translator to correctly calculate the number of sets
translated for TRADACOMS documents, instead of counting every
message ID within a single set as a separate set.

Changed inbound translator to remove string delimiters during
processing from around all data types, allowing string
delimiters around all data types instead of just around AN
and ID data types.

Changed outbound translator to issue a compliance check error,
element too long, for those elements or fields over 512
characters long.

Changed outbound translator to correctly format a value with
R4 data type and MXRU9.4 format with no leading zeros. (The
'X' format instructs GENTRAN:Mentor to remove leading zeros.)

Changed inbound translator to give a message instead of
aborting when the values in the date field are improperly
structured or of an incorrect data type (e.g., alphanumeric).

Changed inbound translator to append a 'T' to output file name
when data has a 'T' in ISA15.

Changed translator to mark the Audit record as a set in error
when the Trading Partnership record is not defined, thereby
avoiding misleading error messages.

Changed translator to correctly calculate the offset into the
audit.i file to the beginning of the set.

Changed translator to correctly generate SE02 elements.

Changed outbound translator to correctly generate the GE01
element when a group of documents includes sets in error.

Changed translator to consider missing mandatory
element/component as an error, thus preventing output of sets
that lack mandatory elements/components when Generate Sets
with Errors is set to 'no.'

Changed translator to remove leading zeros from control
numbers for STX Interchange Header Segments.

Changed inbound translator to properly increment TRADACOMS
control numbers according to size of the control number as
specified in the STX Interchange Header dialog box.

Changed inbound translator to no longer pad inbound EDIFACT
standard versions with leading zeros before looking for the
inbound Trading Partnership record. The version will appear
as in the data. Previously, the translator padded the inbound
version number by adding leading zeros. For example, when
"1:911" is input, earlier versions of the translator read it
as follows:

     001911

This release of the translator reads it as follows:

     1911

VAT Reporting Programs

Changed VAT reporting programs to correctly format and align
VAT report information whether or not data is missing.
