FrameMaker, Release 5
=====================

This file contains information about problems that may occur while
you install or run release 5 of FrameMaker. For additional last-minute
tips and information, open the online Release Notes -- available from
the Online Manuals pop-up menu on the Help Main Menu -- after you have
successfully installed FrameMaker.

Installing FrameMaker
=====================

If you experience problems with installation, make sure your computer
will support FrameMaker. See the printed manual, Installing FrameMaker,
for information on supported system configurations.

Be sure to enter a valid name (any text more than just a space) when
filling in the Name text box in the Registration dialog box. You may have
to reinstall if you enter a space character instead of a name.

If the Installer adds Win32s components to your system,
it will restart Windows. Nonetheless, it is important to exit
Windows manually again (press Alt-F4 from the Program Manager) and
reenter Windows after installation. This ensures that memory is freed
and available to Windows applications.

The following error messages may appear during installation.

"The path is not valid."
-------------------------------------------------------------
During installation, this error message appears when you attempt to
install in a file instead of a directory. Try installing again, and
specify a directory instead of a file in the Destination Path dialog
box.

"DSHELL caused a GPF in module MSTEST.EXE."
-------------------------------------------------------------
If you see this error message during installation, try resetting your
video driver to VGA. Then reinstall FrameMaker. Frame Technology
recommends contacting your video card manufacturer about the
availability of an updated driver.

Installing an Upgrade
=====================

When upgrading, do not install the new release directly over the
previous release. Install the new release in a new directory, or remove
the previous release directory. Before removing the previous directory,
you might want to move your personal dictionary and any custom templates
to a temporary directory on your hard disk. After installing the new
release, move those files to the new directory.

Also, restart Windows before installing the newer release. Restarting
Windows clears from RAM any code fragments from the previous release
that may impede installation.

Running FrameMaker
==================

Insufficient memory error
-------------------------------------------------------------
If your Windows TEMP directory has less than 35K of space available,
FrameMaker may unexpectedly quit. Before starting, remove any
unneeded temporary or swap files from your Windows TEMP directory and
make sure that you have adequate space available in this directory.

OS/2 Warp
==========

This release of FrameMaker 5 for Windows will not run on the current release
of OS/2 Warp. FrameMaker is compatible with Win32s version 1.25 or later.
Because OS/2 version 3.0 currently emulates the older 1.1 or 1.15 versions
of Win32s, you will get an exception error when you start FrameMaker under
OS/2. If a future release of OS/2 can emulate Win32s version 1.25 or later,
then FrameMaker might work properly with it.
