INSTALLATION:
Windows 95: Auto Insert Notification must be turned off for all CDR
drives. Uncheck the Auto insert notification setting in the Options
area under the Settings tab of your RCD drive properties. You can
access the Options by opening the Windows 95 System control panel
and then selecting the Device Manager tab. Next, open the list of
CD-ROM drives and open the entry for your CDR drive (if your CDR
drive is not listed you do not need to do anything). See page 74
of the Software Users Manual for further explanation.

Disconnect must be turned off for the RCD 4X4. Uncheck the Disconnect
setting in the options area under the Settings tab, of your CDR drive
properties. You can access the Options area by opening the Windows 95
System control panel and then selecting the Device Manager tab. The
steps are the same as for turning off the Auto Insert Notification.

For some SCSI adapter cards, disconnect must be turned off in the
card. For the Adaptec 1535 card, please follow the following steps:

1. Boot the computer with the Adaptec AHA-1535/1535A SCSI Select
diskette in the floppy drive.
2. On the screen that asks for Host Adapter Port Address, just hit
the enter key if you have only one 1535 card.
3. Use the arrow keys to select SCSI Disk Utilities and press the
enter key.
4. Note which SCSI ID number the RCD 4X4 is set to and press the
Esc key.
5. Use the arrow keys to select Configure/View Host Adapter Settings
and press the enter key.
6. Use the arrow keys to select SCSI Device Configuration and press
the enter key.
7. Use the arrow keys to select each of the items under the SCSI ID
of the RCD 4X4 drive. For each item, press the enter key, use the
arrow keys to select no, and press the enter key. This will disable
Sync Negotiation, FAST SCSI, and Disconnection, all of which either
don't apply to CD drives or will cause a problem with the RCD 4X4.
8. Press the Esc key twice, use the arrow keys to select yes to save
changes made and press the enter key.
9. Press the Esc key twice, use the arrow keys to select yes to Exit
Utility and press the enter key.
10. Press the space bar to reboot, after you remove the diskette from
the floppy drive.

Windows NT: Windows NT 4.0 or a later version is required.
To use CDR drives under Windows NT 4.0, the full version of Adaptec
EZ-SCSI 4.0 software, or later version, must be installed. That
provides 32 bit WinASPI software which is necessary for the Disc
Archive 95 software to access the drive. For the RCD 4X4, disconnect
must be disabled. See your SCSI card documentation for how to do that
for your SCSI adapter card. For the Adaptec 1535 card, follow the
directions listed above.

See quick reference card and manual for additional installation
instructions.

CHANGES FROM RCD ARCHIVE:
Unlike our older RCD Archive product for Windows 3.1, Disc Archive 95
does not provide support direct for Microsoft Backup. The old
Microsoft Backup for Windows 3.1 does not come with Windows 95. The
new Microsoft Backup for Windows 95 is a very limited program that is
orientated toward tape backups and is not installed in the normal
Windows 95 install. Disc Archive 95 can copy to the hard disk backup
files created using Microsoft Backup and our RCD Archive program for
Windows 3.1. Once the backup files are on the hard disk, the old
Microsoft Backup program can access them and do restores. Disc
Archive 95 can access RCD Archive discs on CDR drives but not CD-ROM
drives. Disc Archive 95 can access its own published discs on
SCSI CD-ROM drives.

ABORTING VERIFY OR COMPARE:
During long verify or compare operations, it is possible to abort or
cancel the operation by simply hitting the eject button on the backup
drive. This is not recommended while writing an archive to disc.

SOLVING PROBLEMS:
1. The first place to go is the online help. Pressing the F1 key on
the main windows of the program brings up context sensitive help. The
help system is designed to be an online manual.
2. If you have trouble merging or mounting multiple archives at once,
try unmounting everything and then mounting just one archive at a
time. It may also be necessary to clear additional hard disk space or
choose a different drive for using as the cache drive, to mount
archives that have a large complicated tree of folders.
3. Disc Archive 95 will probably work best with the SCSI host card
set for synchronous transfers (the normal default) and not set for
asynchronous transfers.
4. Be sure Auto Insert Notification is turned off (see note about it
in the Installation notes above).
5. It is important that only the first device and last device on a
SCSI chain are terminated and that both are terminated. Also, there
should not be SCSI ID conflicts (see hardware manuals for more
information).
6. The program may only archive to a single archive destination up
to two gigabytes. If you wish to archive to a destination disk that
is larger than two gigabytes, it is best to create multiple folders
and switch the destination folder before reaching two gigabytes of
archives in a single folder.
7. On the RCD 4X4 or TEAC CD-R, if you get MEDIUM ERRORS or false
File Changed errors, make sure disconnect is disabled in your SCSI
adapter card. See the installation instructions above for more
information.
8. Read the Info.txt file for additional last minute information that
may not be in the manual.

Thank you for using Disc Archive 95!
