    1.0 IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    1.01 Installation Requirements
    ----------------------------------------
Installation requires at least 400 KB free conventional memory.
If there is insufficient memory available, restart your computer
loading only essential TSRs and device drivers.

The total disk space requirement to install all PC-cillin files,
including DOS and Windows programs, is approximately 4.0 MB.

    1.02 Problem Installation
    ----------------------------------------
If you have problems installing PC-cillin, edit your CONFIG.SYS
and AUTOEXEC.BAT files to temporarily remove non-essential TSRs
and device drivers. The COMPATABLILTY ISSUES section of this
file provides information on possible conflicts with PC-cillin
and other programs. Note that technical support is only provided
	to registered users.

    1.03 WINDISP.EXE
    ----------------------------------------
PC-cillin version 5.0 includes a Windows interface program
called WINDISP.EXE. This program allows the PC-cillin Sensor
program to show boot virus warning messages under the Windows
environment. This way PC-cillin will display a warning message
as well as generate a warning sound when a boot virus is
detected on floppy drives. It will be loaded automatically when
Windows startups (for more information about WINDISP.EXE, please
	see the USER'S GUIDE).

    1.04 Pattern Expiration Message
    ---------------------------------------------
The PC-cillin virus traps DO NOT require the use of a virus
pattern to protect your system from all types of viruses (both
known and unknown). However, we have provided extra scan
utilities to provide you with even greater protection. These
scan utilities require the use of a virus pattern, which is
frequently updated to include the most recent viruses. If you
receive a pattern expiration message, contact TouchStone Software
(see Technical Support section) for a copy of the newest virus
	pattern.

    1.05 Scanning Compressed Files
    ---------------------------------------------
If you would like PCSCAN to also scan compressed files for
viruses, use the /z or -z command. PCSCAN only supports
PKLITE, LZEXE, PKZIP, and LHA compressed files.

    1.06 General Information
    ----------------------------------------
Reboot your computer after installing PC-cillin. This will
ensure that PC-cillin is up and running, ready to protect you
	from viruses.

If the PC-cillin installation program modifies any of your files
it will backup the original file to extension PCC. For example
if your AUTOEXEC.BAT file is modified, the original file will be
	saved as AUTOEXEC.PCC.

Please take a few moments to read this document. It contains
important information that is not included in the User's Guide.

    2.0 COMPATIBLITY ISSUES

    2.01 FastLock Data Protection Program
    ---------------------------------------------
In order for FastLock to protect your data, it will encrypt your
boot area. Therefore before running FastLock to protect your
hard disk, follow the instructions below:

	(1) Copy all Fastlock files to a floppy diskette.

	(2) Boot your system from A: using the same DOS version.

	(3) Run FastLock from the floppy diskette to protect your hard
disk (make sure the floppy diskette is not write protected).

    2.02 HyperDisk Cache Program
    ---------------------------------------------
If your system experiences problems after installing PC-cillin,
place the device driver for the HyperDisk Cache program AFTER
the PC-cillin device driver in the CONFIG.SYS file (Otherwise,
the HyperDisk Cache Program will incorrectly write to the
PC-cillin boot loader believing it to be the boot sector).

    2.03 McAfee SCAN
    ---------------------------------------------
If you run SCAN C: while PC-cillin is on guard, and you receive
a warning that the virus "TRIPLE SHOT" is resident in upper
	memory, disregard this message.

    2.04 Norton Utilities' CALIBRAT.EXE program
    ---------------------------------------------
The CALIBRAT.EXE program in the Norton Utilities Package will
modify the hard disk boot sector when executed. You may select
[C]-Continue when PC-cillin warns you that CALIBRAT.EXE is
trying to modify the hard disk boot sector, or you may use the
PC-cillin configuration program PCCICFG.EXE (for DOS) or PCCWIN
(for Windows) to adjust the PC-cillin Sensitivity to turn the
Partition/Boot Sector Write Protect Warning to "OFF" before
	executing CALIBRAT.EXE.

2.05 Older version Local Bus with Cache buffer problem
    --------------------------------------------------------
Some older Local Bus cache buffer versions will cut a few bytes
from RAM for their own use. This practice will cause problems
for the Windows 32-bit disk access option as well as PC-cillin's
Boot Security. Newer Local Bus versions have corrected this
problem. If you have installed PC-cillin and one of the add-on
cards in your system has this problem, at system boot up
PC-cillin will warn you the system was infected by a boot
virus and will automatically reboot your system. Follow these
steps to resolve this false alarm situation:

	(1) Boot up your system from A: drive.

	(2) Go to the directory where you installed PC-cillin (normally
C:\PCCDOS). Execute the PCCICFG program, select Sensitivity,
and set Boot Security to OFF.

	(3) Reboot the system from C: drive.

    2.06 PCTool's DISKFIX.EXE
    -------------------------
The DISKFIX.EXE program will modify the hard disk boot sector
when executed. You may select [C]-Continue when PC-cillin warns
you that DISKFIX.EXE is trying to modify the hard disk boot
sector, or you may use PCCICFG.EXE to adjust the PC-cillin
Sensitivity to turn the Partition/Boot Sector Write Protect
Warning to "OFF" before executing DISKFIX.EXE.

    2.07 TeleMagic
    ---------------------------------------------
If you experience some problems when running TeleMagic with
PC-cillin installed, please turn off the "PC-cillin Happy Face"
by using the PCCICFG.EXE configuration program.

    2.08 Windows 3.x
    ---------------------------------------------
In order to load PCC for Windows and modify SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI
automatically, add the Window's directory to your path and
select Express Installation or select "YES" for the modify
SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI files options in Custom Install.

If PCC for Windows cannot be loaded automatically when Windows
starts up. Run the program TMDGROUP.EXE located in the
directory where you installed PC-cillin (by default this is
        C:\PCCDOS).

After installation is complete please check that the following
line has been added to your SYSTEM.INI file under the [386Enh]
	section.

	    ReflectDOSInt2A=True

During installation, this line will automatically be added for
you. However, if the installation program could not locate your
Windows directory you will have to add this line yourself by
following the instructions below using a text editor (EDIT.COM)

	(1) If you are in Windows, exit to DOS.

	(2) Go to the directory where Windows is installed (for this
	    example we will use C:\WINDOWS).

	(3) Open the WIN.INI file using a text editor.

	(4) Insert the following line into the section headed [386Enh]
(your screen should look something like this):

	    [386Enh]
	    ReflectDOSInt2A=True

	(5) Save your changes before you exit the text editor.

2.09 Windows For Workgroups 32-Bit File Access
    ------------------------------------------------
Windows for Workgroups Ver 3.11 provides 32-bit File Access to
increase performance on certain systems. This feature reads
disk information directly, bypassing all DOS functions including
PC-cillin. When this option is enabled, PC-cillin will NOT be
able to monitor virus activity in your system, thus we recommend
that you do not enable this function. NOTE: 32-bit File Access
is disabled by default. If you normally use this feature, and
you want PC-cillin to inform you when it detects a virus you
must start Windows for Workgroups with the /D:C option. This
switch temporarily disables 32-bit File Access.

    2.10 Windows NT
    ---------------------------------------------
The Windows NT operating system will modify the boot area of
your hard disk. Therefore, before installing Windows NT you
must first uninstall PC-cillin. PC-cillin 5.0 does not support
	the Windows NT operating system.

    2.11 High Capacity device drivers
    ---------------------------------------------
Some high capacity disk drivers such as Disk Manager and EZDrive
will put a small driver in the partition table. If you boot up
from a floppy, you will not be able to access your hard drive.
These types of drivers may conflict with PC-cillin's device
driver. If you experience this problem after installing
PC-cillin, modify the following line in CONFIG.SYS

        DEVICE=C:\PCCDOS\PCC_DEV.SYS /V

    2.12 Compressed Volumes
    ---------------------------------------------
(1). For DOUBLESPACE, STACKER, SUPERSTOR and XTRADRIVE users:
Boot up from your hard drive (compressed disk) and proceed with
the PC-cillin installation. If you booted up from A: drive and
installed PC-cillin onto the compressed drive, you may
experience problems. In this case, re-boot from A: drive and
perform a SYS C: command to solve this problem.

(2). We strongly suggest that you uninstall PC-cillin first before
installing / uninstalling DOUBLESPACE, STACKER, SUPERSTOR,
	 XTRADRIVE or other compression utilities.

    2.13 Unable to run Windows
    ---------------------------------------------
If you have installed PC-cillin and your system hangs while showing
the Windows logo screen, modify the following line in CONFIG.SYS

        DEVICE=C:\PCCDOS\PCC_DEV.SYS /V

    2.14 QDPMI.SYS
    ---------------------------------------------
QEMM's Dos Protected Mode driver QDPMI.SYS conflicts with PCC.EXE.
In order to use PCC.EXE temporarily remove the QDPMI.SYS
	command from your CONFIG.SYS file.

2.15 TSRSCAN Virus Detection and Prevention System
    ---------------------------------------------------
PC-cillin 5.x includes a transparent file and system
monitoring program called TSRSCAN that protects your system
from viruses. During installation you will be asked if you
would like to load this program automatically from your
AUTOEXEC.BAT. By default, it is selected YES.

By default, TSRSCAN will load using the optimal memory
configuration. If your system has Upper Memory Blocks
available, TSRSCAN will automatically load into Upper Memory
thus freeing up conventional memory for you to run other
programs. If you do not wish to load TSRSCAN into Upper
Memory you can specify the /NOUMB option when running TSRSCAN.

NOTE: Exclude the TSRSCAN program from any memory optimization
process such as MEMMAKER. TSRSCAN is configured to
	automatically use memory efficiently.

TSRSCAN requires the use of a virus pattern file in order to
protect your system from known viruses. It is essential to
obtain the most recent copy of the virus pattern file when
ever available. When TSRSCAN detects that your virus pattern
file may be out of date it will issue a message to remind you
to obtain a newer virus pattern file. If you receive a
pattern expiration message, please contact TouchStone Software
for a copy of the newest virus pattern (this virus pattern
update is free of charge only to registered users for one year).

    2.16 Memory Optimization and TSRSCAN
    --------------------------------------
Refer to the section TSRSCAN Virus Detection and
	Prevention System.
