Using the CoStar LabelWriter with TeleMagic for Windows
Version 1.5
There are two ways you can print labels directly from TeleMagic for Windows to the
CoStar LabelWriter Series printers. If you know how to create custom reports in
TeleMagic, you can make them for the corresponding label size that you wish to print on
(address size, shipping size, etc.) and load those reports into the database where you
want to use them. If you are not familiar with creating custom reports in TeleMagic, we
have created three for you to use with the CoStar Address size label, the CoStar
Shipping size label and one for use with custom pre-printed CoStar Shipping size labels.
Follow the instructions below and you will be able to print labels directly from TeleMagic
for Windows to your CoStar LabelWriter printer.

If you have not loaded the CoStar Windows driver that comes with your CoStar
LabelWriter Series printer please refer to the user manual that was supplied with your
printer to do so. The following instructions presume that the CoStar Windows driver is
loaded in your system. If you are experiencing any difficulty installing the CoStar
Windows driver please contact CoStar Technical Support at 203-661-9700 between
9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST. This driver must be loaded to print to your CoStar
LabelWriter Series printer from TeleMagic.

There are six files that came with this readme file. They are named address.frt,
address.frx, ship1.frt, ship1.frx, ship2.frt, and ship2.frx. These are the files you will use
to build the custom reports that will enable you to print to your CoStar LabelWriter. In
order to use these files with TeleMagic you must copy them into the sub-directory of the
database which you want to print your labels from. We will use as our example a
database sub-directory called c:\tmwin\comp_con. This is the Company/Contact
database sub-directory. All of the above files should be copied into the appropriate sub-
directory.

After copying the files to the appropriate sub-directory, start TeleMagic and open the
corresponding database. In our example we will open the Company/Contact database.
Under the Reports menu select Custom Reports. Click on the Add button and the
Custom Report dialog box will appear. In the field next to Name:, type the name which
you will want this report to be. In our example we loaded the CoStar Address size label
first so the report name we inserted was CoStar Address Label. Directly below that is a
field called Filename:. In this field you insert the name of the file - without the extension.
There were two files for each label size - since we are using the CoStar Address size
label as our example lets look at those files. We copied address.frt and address.frx into
the database sub-directory. For the purpose of the field titled Filename: in the Custom
Report dialog box we will insert the name of the file that appears before the period in the
actual file name. The three letters after the period are called the extension - you should
not enter the extension into the Filename: field. We entered ADDRESS as our file
name. In the drop down box next to the field Use Data from: we selected Contact. In
the field titled Including only: we selected No Filter and in the field next to Ordered by:
we chose Natural Order..

Now well let TeleMagic know that we want to print this report to the CoStar LabelWriter.
Click on the Edit button and you will see the actual template for the report that you just
created. Under the Report menu select Page Layout and the Page Layout dialog box
will appear. Click on the Print Setup button and the Print Setup dialog box will appear -
this is where we will tell TeleMagic what printer to use and what label size to print on.
Under the area titled Printer click on the small circle to the left of Specific Printer:. In
the drop down box below Specific Printer: select the CoStar LabelWriter. It may actually
say CoStar LabelWriter XL on Com1:, or CoStar LabelWriter II on Com2 - depending
on which LabelWriter you have and what Com port it is connected to. Under the area
titled Orientation click on the small circle to the left of Landscape. In the drop down box
next to Size: under the area titled Paper select Shipping. You have just informed
TeleMagic that you want to print on a shipping size label in landscape mode on your
CoStar LabelWriter printer. Click on the OK button in the Print Setup dialog box. Then
click on the OK button in the Page Layout dialog box. Finally under the File menu select
Save, and the once again under the File menu select Close.

Now you are back in the Custom Report Dialog box. Click on the OK button and you will
see the name CoStar Address Label added to your Custom Reports list. Highlight
CoStar Address Label and click on the Print button. The Print Custom Report dialog box
will come up - click on the Print button and the Print dialog box will appear. In this box
you can select the Page Range which you will want to print (one label or the whole
database, one copy or multiple copies) and it will also tell you at the top of the box what
printer you are printing to. If it does not say CoStar LabelWriter then click on the Setup
button and choose the CoStar LabelWriter. Click on print and you will have a perfectly
formatted address label.

Repeat this process to load reports for the CoStar Shipping size label and the CoStar
Shipping size label with your return address on it (ship1, ship2). You must also add
these reports to any other database which you will want to print labels from.

Finally If you are having any problems setting up or printing to your CoStar LabelWriter
