Printing to the CoStar LabelWriter Series Printers from
NetManage ECCO Professional 3.0

Printing to the CoStar LabelWriter series printers from NetManage ECCO
Professional 3.0 requires a little configuring but after you have done so,
the actual printing is as easy as selecting a menu option. Just follow
the steps below and you will have the most convenient label printing
solution you can find. This document is valid for owners of the CoStar
LabelWriter II series and LabelWriter XL series printers running Windows
version 3.1 or higher (including Windows 95).

Naturally we always recommend that you use the latest version of the
CoStar LabelWriter driver that is available for your printer. You can
download the latest LabelWriter drivers via the CoStar BBS at 203-661-6292,
or on CompuServe (GO COSTAR) or America Online (KEYWORD: COSTAR).

The first step is, of course, making sure that you have the CoStar
LabelWriter printer driver installed on your system. If you do not have
the LabelWriter driver installed please refer to your LabelWriter Manual
and follow the steps to do so.

Assuming that you have the CoStar LabelWriter driver installed on your
system, open ECCO and open the PhoneBook file you want to print your labels
from.

Click on the File menu and select Printer Setup. Under Specific Printer
choose the CoStar LabelWriter. Under Orientation select Landscape. In the
drop down box titled Size: under Paper, select the CoStar label size you
are printing to. For instance, if you are printing to the 1 1/8 x 3 1/2
address size label, then select Address . If you are printing on the
2 1/4 x 4 shipping size label then select Shipping. When you have select
the proper label size, click the OK button.

Next, from the File menu in the PhoneBook view, select Print Catalog and
choose New. Next, click on the Setup button to bring up the Page Setup
dialogue box. (It doesnt matter what settings are listed in the New Print
Catalog (PhoneBook) dialogue box at this time - we are going to create
a new Page Setup.) In the drop down menu box under Paper next to Size:
select Shipping (Or Address or the CoStar label size you are using,)

Note - If you do not have the option to select the CoStar labels then you
have not correctly selected the CoStar LabelWriter driver in Printer Setup -
the CoStar LabelWriter must be selected under Specific Printer. You can
click on the Printer button in the Page Setup dialogue Box to selected the
CoStar LabelWriter.

There is no need to change any other settings in the Page Setup dialogue
box. These setting are read directly from the CoStar printer driver. Click
on the Test button to make sure that your printer is on-line and that you
have selected the correct label size. If your test label prints correctly,
click on the OK button. A dialogue box titled Apply Changes ? will appear.
Please click on the New Name button. In the Enter Name dialogue box that
pops up enter the new name that you wish to call this Page Setup. (i.e.,
CoStar Shipping Label, CoStar Address Label, etc.) When you are finished
click the OK button.

This will return you to the New Print Catalog (PhoneBook) dialogue box.
In the field next to New Settings Based On: make sure Default PhoneBook
Settings is listed. In the Page Setup field select the new name you
previously entered as the name of your new page setup. (For example,
if you called it CoStar Shipping Label, then scroll down until you find it
and select it. It appears that ECCO places new names at the bottom of this
list.) In the area under Range click on the Selected Items Only button.
(You can modify this at any time if you wish to use either of the other
settings.) In the drop down box under Format: select Names and Addresses
Only. In the field next to Print Catalog Name at the bottom of the box,
enter the name which you will identify this new print catalog by. (i.e.,
once again, CoStar Shipping Label, etc.)

Click on the Header/Footer button and in the dialogue box that pops up
uncheck the boxes next to Print Date in Footer and Page Number in Footer.
Click the OK button to return to the New Print Catalog (PhoneBook) dialogue
box. Click on the Options button and under Format in the PhoneBook Options
dialogue box click on the box next to Switch Lastname, Firstname to
Firstname Lastname, then click OK to once again New Print Catalog
(PhoneBook) dialogue box.

Finally, click on the Font button. In the Item Text Fonts dialogue box the
default setting is 8 points but you will get a better looking label by
changing it to 10 points. For some unknown reason, even though it says 8
points, it prints out at something that looks like 16 points - too large
for any label. Your best bet is to select something OTHER than the 8 point
default but not too large that the information doesnt fit on the label.
Click OK after you have changed the setting.

Back in the New Print Catalog (PhoneBook) dialogue box click on the OK
button.

Highlight a name in the PhoneBook list. Under the File menu select Print
Catalog and then the new name you just created from the drop down list. A
perfectly formatted label will print out of your CoStar LabelWriter.
