Menu Cells
Delete -> All
The Delete -> All command is available in all modules except Tools. It deletes all the contents (all elements in the scene) of the current SOFTIMAGE 3D workspace. Make sure to save the changes to your current scene before using this command, otherwise they will be lost.
Procedure
1. Choose the Delete -> All command. If your scene has not been modified since the last time you saved it, a warning box appears asking you to confirm that you want to delete your work.
If your scene has been modified since the last time you saved it, this warning box is displayed.
2. Click Ok to delete everything and clear the display, or click Cancel to cancel the deletion and exit the message box.
When you want to start a new scene from scratch after working on many projects in a long session, it is better to use the EXIT menu cell and exit the software, not always use Delete -> All.
Why? Here are two good reasons:
- Memory, just like the hard drive, becomes fragmented over time and makes the system run more slowly. When you exit the software, the operating system process is terminated which frees up all allocated RAM and memory swap usage. This effectively gives the system a "clean-slate."
- The Delete -> Dispose command to make sure you clean everything.
It is also a good idea to log out from your account/machine once in awhile. This ensures that you are starting again from scratch.
