Import -> Images

The Import -> Images commands in the Tools module convert images created with another software into SOFTIMAGE 3D format. The submenu displays the formats from which you can choose.

The converted SOFTIMAGE 3D picture file keeps the same name as the imported file except with a .pic suffix.

Procedure

1. Choose the Import -> Images command and the subcommand (file format) of your choice. The database browser is displayed.

2. Select a file name by double-clicking it. When the file is converted, it keeps this file name except with the .pic file suffix to indicate that it is now a SOFTIMAGE 3D picture file.

3. When you choose a file to import, a message box appears asking you to enter information which is stored in the SOFTIMAGE 3D picture file. Depending on the format, you will need to provide this information:

For RGB, RGBA, and Raw images, supply the width and height of the pictures.
For TIFF(TM) images, choose a file suffix. The MacBinary header can be removed if there is one already attached to the file.
For Vertigo images, the Protect option enables or disables file name protection, and the Wind option lets you convert only the coded portion of the Vertigo image. Since both Vertigo and SOFTIMAGE 3D file formats use .pic as a suffix, the Protect option adds an "s" after the name of the converted SOFTIMAGE 3D file.
For Wavefront images, the <keep border> option is used to preserve the original width and height of the Wavefront picture when converting it to a SOFTIMAGE 3D file. Note that SOFTIMAGE 3D can read the format of .rlb files, but only recognizes the .rla suffix in the browser. As a workaround, you can simply give your .rlb files the .rla suffix before you import them, or you can use the wave2soft standalone program, which recognizes both .rla and .rlb suffixes, to convert the Wavefront files.
4. After filling out the appropriate information, click Ok to proceed or Cancel to exit the procedure.
