Export -> Images

The Export -> Images commands in the Tools module convert images created (.pic files) in SOFTIMAGE 3D into another format. The submenu displays these formats from which you can choose.

Procedure

1. Choose the Export -> Images command and the subcommand (file format) of your choice. SOFTIMAGE 3D displays the database browser.

2. Select an image file name to export or specify a name in the File name text box. When you choose a file to export, a message box may appear asking you to enter information.

Depending on the format, you need to provide or take note of certain information:

When exporting to RGB, RGBA, and Raw images, the width and height of the picture is shown at the bottom of the screen. Since these file formats don't store the picture's width and height, you should make note of them because you need them if you ever want to import the image back into SOFTIMAGE 3D.
When exporting to Targa, you can store the image in a compressed format (default) or as raw pixels.
When exporting to TIFF, you can choose the following options:
- Put a MacBinary Header in the file, which is useful for some applications.
- Use PackBit compression to compress the file.
- Use Planar configuration: 1 or 2
- Specify a suffix (extension) for the file.
When exporting to Vertigo, the Protect option enables or disables the protection on the file. Since both Vertigo and SOFTIMAGE 3D file formats use .pic as a suffix, the Protect option adds a "v" before the name of the converted Vertigo file if it's the same file name as the SOFTIMAGE 3D file name.
3. Click Ok to proceed or Cancel to exit the procedure.
