Menu Cells

EXIT

The EXIT menu cell is available in all modules. It ends the current working session and exits SOFTIMAGE 3D.

When you want to start a new scene from scratch after working on many projects in a long session, it is best to use the EXIT command to exit the software instead of choosing Delete -> All, which only clears the workspace.

This is because memory, just like the hard drive, becomes fragmented over time, making the system run more slowly. When you exit the software, the operating system process is terminated which frees up all allocated RAM and memory swap usage. This effectively gives the system a "clean slate."

It is also a good idea to log out from your account/machine once in awhile (back to the login window). This ensures that you are starting again from scratch.

Procedure

1. Choose the EXIT menu cell.

A warning message box is displayed.

If you have not saved your scene, the warning message reminds you to do so before you exit.

2. Click Ok to exit SOFTIMAGE 3D, or Cancel to remain in it.

Emergency Reset

If you need to reset the system in an emergency, you should use a four-key reset (commonly known as the Vulcan Death Grip) instead of the reset button on the hardware. This is safer for the system, data, and hardware. To do this, hold down the Shift-Ctrl-F12-/ (forward slash on the numeric keypad) keys and wait a few seconds. This kills the current login session, the window managers, and all running applications, and then restarts the login window.
