Grammar Vanquish Installation Notes

To install Grammar Vanquish on your computer hard disk or working diskette,
place this distribution diskette in the appropriate disk drive. Run the
program called SETUP.EXE. (This can be done by showing the disk drive in
File Manager or Windows Explorer and double-clicking on the program name
SETUP.EXE. It can also be done by clicking on the Run or File|Run menu and
entering the disk drive followed by SETUP, for example "A:SETUP".)

It is recommended that you install the program onto the same drive where
your WINDOWS and WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories are found. (On most systems
this would be the C: drive). This does not apply to any Word Processor
macro files which should be installed wherever your system has the other
macro or script files.

The setup program installs all the files you need without overwriting any
files used by other programs. In the process of installing, the program
makes a temporary directory on your hard disk called ~SETUPGV. This
directory is erased before the installation is completed. For some mysterious
reason, the directory does not get erased on some Windows NT operating systems.
If, after installing Grammar Vanquish, you find that you do have a new
~SETUPGV directory on your hard drive, you may delete this directory without
any ill effects.

You will be given the choice to include macros for Windows Word Processors.
You may choose to install Grammar Vanquish for your Windows Word Processor
ONLY, or you may install it with the toolbar which is usable in any Windows
program, or you may install it with both the toolbar and Windows Word
Processor macros. Macros are included for AmiPro and Word Pro for Windows
(this includes either Smart Suite), Word for Windows (this includes Microsoft
Office), and Word Perfect for Windows (this includes Perfect Office).

SETUP problems (rare, but do happen):
1) SETUP does nothing. This usually happens on older
machines (such as 386/25's) or machines which are configured for a
language other than English. If this happens, you may manually copy and
rename the files to the selected directory. We recommend making a
directory (folder) named C:\GRAMVANQ and then copying the necessary
files into it. The files needed are GRAMSVANQ.EX_ which should be renamed
GRAMSLAM.EXE; GRAMVANQ.TX_ to be renamed GRAMVANQ.TX_; GRAMVANQ.HL_ to
be renamed GRAMVANQ.HLP; GV1.IN_ to be renamed GV1.INI which goes in the
WINDOWS directory; EPOB.IC_ to be renamed EPOB.ICO; GVLAUNCH.HL_ to
be renamed GVLAUNCH.HLP; and TBAR.VB_ to be renamed TBAR.VBX which
goes in the WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory. VBRUN300.DL_ becomes VBRUN300.DLL
and goes in the WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory. Files are copied by using the
DOS EXPAND.EXE program. This has to be done manually thus:
     A:>EXPAND GRAMVANQ.HL_ C:\GRAMVANQ\GRAMVANQ.HLP

The other files are either installation files or Word Processor macro
files which go with their respective Word Processors in the approriate
directory.
Ami Pro--GVANQAMI.TX_ to GVANQAMI.TXT, GRAMVANQ.SM_ to GRAMVANQ.SMM,
	GVAUTO.SM_ to GVAUTO.SMM, and GRAMVANQ.BM_ to GRAMVANQ.BMP.
Word Perfect--GVMWP4W.TX_ to GVWP4W.TXT, GVWPLG.BM_ to GVWPLG.BMP,
	and GVWP4W.WC_ to GVWP4W.WCM.
Word for Windows--GVMSWORD.TX_ to GVMSWORD.TXT, GVW4WAUT.CL_ to
	GVW4WAUT.CLP, GVW4WBTN.BM_ to GVW4WBTN.BMP, and GVW4WMAC.CL_
	to GVW4WMAC.CLP.
Word Pro--GVWPRO.TX_ to GVWPRO.TXT, GVMENU.LW_ to GVMWNU.LWP,
	GVMNUKY.LW_ to GVMNUKY.LWP, GVWPRO.BM_ to GVWPRO.BMP,
	GVWPRO.LW_ to GVWPRO.LWP, GVWPROKY.LW_ to GVWPROKY.LWP,
	and GVWPROMN.LW_ to GVWPROMN.LWP.

2) After setting up and trying to run Grammar Slammer, you get a "Path
not found" message. This may happen if the WINDOWS directory is on a
different drive than the Grammar Slammer files. Try moving the Grammar
Slammer directory and files to the same drive as WINDOWS directory. If
there is still a problem, check to make sure all files are present. On a
few older PC's there may still be a "path not found" message.
Check to insure that the file WINHELP.EXE is in your \WINDOWS directory.

For some reason the TBAR.VBX does not work on a few machines. In that
case, you may still use Grammar Slammer, but you cannot use the toolbar.
In that case add Grammar Slammer to your Startup Window. (IF the startup
window is missing, consult your Windows manual for how to create it.)
Edit the "File|Properties" so that the command line reads "winhelp.exe
c:\gramslam\gramslam.hlp" and choose the GSB.ICO for the icon. (Clearly
if Grammar Slammer is in a different directory than c:\gramslam, you will
have to make the necessary changes.) Then check the "run minimized" box.
This will cause Grammar Slammer to be loaded as an icon which you can
click or double-click to call up.

3) If that still does not work, try going into the File Manager or
Windows Explorer, and double-click on the GRAMSLAM.HLP file. If this does
not successfully call up the Grammar Slammer help file, then either your
WINHELP.EXE program is not working or in the wrong directory (it should
be in your \WINDOWS directory), or your machine for some reason is not
compatible.
