Welcome to Calendar Creator for Windows 95. This file contains general tips for using Calendar Creator for Windows 95 and tips for Calendar Creator 2.0 users. Have fun using Calendar Creator!!!!

Tips for Calendar Creator 2.0 Users
-----------------------------------

1. Opening Screen
The program opens to a monthly calendar. Unlike 2.0, you cannot have it open to a workspace with event lists attached to it. However, Calendar Creator for Win 95 introduces a new concept called "Workbooks" which allows you to change up to 5 "Workspaces" with the click of a mouse. See the section on Workbooks.

2. Split Screens
The program no longer has icons to show an event list tiled with a calendar. However, the program will allow you to have a calendar open along with multiple opened event lists. These Windows can be sized and arranged any way desired and saved as a Workbook so it can be recalled at the click of a mouse.

3. Saving Event Lists with Workspaces
Event lists are no longer saved with the workspace. Instead, they are saved with the Workbook.

4. Changing the Date when adding an event
If you wish to change the date of an event which is being added or edited, open the Events Properties box (select add or modify an event), select repeats and change the start date.

5. Adding a Scattered Event
Select Add Event from the Event Menu. In the Events Properties box select Exceptions. Click on the dates you wish the event to appear on.

6. Adding a Bannered Event
Select Add Event from the Event Menu. In the Events Properties box select Repeats. Under Period 1 select daily. Enter the start and end date. Select the Banner tab to add the banner.

7. Adding a Repeating Event.
This is similar to 2.0 except the terminology is different. Every is now period 1. Day of Week and Day of Month have been replaced by period 2 and 3.

8. The Quick Calendar
The Quick calendar is no longer part of the Event Properties box. See the above sections on changing the date and adding a scattered event.

9. Selecting an Event List
The names of the opened event lists are no longer displayed on the screen. To activate an event list select Window and click on the event list.

10. Saving Events Lists and Workspaces
There is no longer a separate option to save a workspace. The save option will ask you to save whichever window is active. A window can be selected by clicking on it or by selecting Window and clicking on the appropriate file name.

11. Notes
Notes are no longer part of a specific event but added separately using the Notes option.

12. Adding Pictures to the Calendar layout.
Big Pictures and left and right pictures are now added to a calendar by selecting Format/Layout from the main menu and selecting the Pictures tab. Select Left, Right or Facing. Facing replaces Big Picture. Select the Format/Layout tab from the Layout properties box .

13. PowerAlbum
When PowerAlbum is selected it looks totally different from 2.0 To get the appearance of the 2.0 PowerAlbum click on the File icon and select View/Book. When in the Book layout select View/Style and Tiny.

14. Form Preview
This has been replaced by print preview under File/Print Preview.

15. Priorities and Banners.
Bannered events can now be prioritized. However, it must be in descending order; i.e., a priority 2 event will appear above a priority 1 event. If the banners are removed the priorities must be changed to ascending order.

16. Clock movement -- The clock control now has handles for changing length of time between start and end. The clock control also recognizes when the time crosses 12 and so changes from AM to PM or vise versa.

17. Picture Preview -- The picture preview windows thoughout the application now have a fail safe mechanism which displays an error message only once (including the name of the bad or missing file so it can be corrected.)

18. Date Navigator -- The date navigator now includes an edit field and the start day of week is defined by the locale so that Monday rather than Sunday may be the first day of the week.

19. Weekend Style -- The weekend dropdown listbox on the layout/style property page is now fully functional.

20. Moving Files -- In Calendar Creator 3.0, the user has the ability to mail a Calendar and/or an Event List to another user. In order to allow the user who receives the Calendar and/or Event List to view the graphics without the need to send them all, a new feature has been added to the Options tab under Preferences. This new feature is "Save images in files" option. If set, the images in a calendar or event list are saved internally with the file. This permits you to move or to "mail" a file to a machine which does not have the images installed, but dramatically increases the size of the file. The default is to not save the images internal to the file.

21. "Franklin" type output -- In order to print "Franklin" type output do the following

	a) Under "Format Layout Page" pick "Instabook 2/page (letter) from the Paper Dropdown
	b) Under "Format Page Paper Orientation" pick "Landscape"
	c) Under "Format Layout" pick "Facing Pages" and "Side Binding" (if different)
	d) Under "File Print Print Mode" pick "Instabook" (this will autoset Double sided)
	e) Under "File Print" select desired "Time Slice"
	f) Under "File Print Advanced" pick either "Blank" or "Cover"
	g) Select OK

On-line Documentation
---------------------
To install the On-line Documentation reader. Run "e:\manual\setup.exe" where "e:\" is the drive letter corresponding to your CD-ROM drive. This process will restart your computer. Once the reader has been installed and the computer restarted, run the Acrobat Reader 2.0 from the start menu, choose File|Open, and select "e:\manual\manual.pdf" (where "e:\" is your CD-ROM drive).

Troubleshooting
---------------

If the program can not find an image in a calendar, a dialog box is displayed. Selecting "Ignore" turns off the display of the missing image. "Select new" brings up a File Open dialog box so you can select a new image file.

Double sided Printing -- When printing a double-sided calendar (multi-up double sided or InstaBook print mode) on a simplex printer, the printer may not print out all the pages Calendar Creator sends to the printer spooler for the first side before the dialog box with instructions to flip the paper appears.

Because of this, the double sided calendar created on a simplex printer
may have the calendars in the wrong order.

If this occurs, a work-around would be to go to the printer properties
dialog box of the particular printer and select output to raw mode instead of output to the spooler. To invoke the printer properties dialog box, go into the Explorer, select the printer and press the right mouse button to bring up the menu with the printer properties menu item at the bottom.

Workbooks -- If you call up a saved Workbook and an empty calendar is displayed, you probably did not save the Calendar and Event Lists before you saved the Workbook. To avoid this problem, make sure you save the current Calendar file and all open Event Lists before switching to another Workbook.

Afternoon check box -- If you modify the time of a PM timed event, you MUST check the afternoon check box again if the start time is PM.

Event Times -- You must enter a colon when entering an event start time, eg you must enter "8:00". If your system is set for 24-hour time, you may enter start times without a colon, eg entering "1600" will work.

Default end of day -- If your system is set for 24-hour time, the default end of day is set to 1300 (1pm). To change this, go to the Layout Properties, Miscellaneous Tab and change the end of day.

Starting the week with Monday -- By default, Calendar Creator is set up with Sunday as the start of the week. To change this to Monday, or any other day, go to the Layout Properties, Miscellaneous Tab and change the start of week.

Oversized Printing -- On an HP 3D, printing an oversized calendar MAY cause parts of the calendar to be printed outside the defined calendar form. This problem does not exist on HP DeskJet 1200C/PS, HP PaintJet XL300, or other HP printers.

Landscape Printing -- All paperstock issues have been resolved. Note: The landscape radio button for standard (read-only) paperstocks differs from custom stocks in that for read-only paperstocks the landscape setting applies only to the particular layout (calendar) it was set for. For custom (user defined) paperstocks the landscape setting applies to all layouts (calendars) that use it regardless of whether the "save" button is pressed or not. The "save" button is used to change margin setting from layout specific (stored as overrides) to margin settings that apply to all layouts that use that paperstock.

Print Overflow -- In the Advanced Tab of the File Print dialogue box box, there is a check box to print the overflows or not.

Print Preview -- On some systems, a Dell 486 with Hercules video card with 2 meg vram using Tseng Labs ET4000/W2 adaptor, for example, selecting Print Preview brings up the Print box. When OK or Cancel are selected an empty (gray) print preview window appears. Possible solution: Make sure that if a default printer is selected that it is attached to the computer.

Fonts -- If entered text does not appear in calendar, try reducing the font size until text appears.

Pictures -- If pictures assigned to left or right of title do not appear in Multi-Month layout, try changing to a different layout.

Pictures -- If pictures are displayed as Black squares it means that PowerAlbum cannot find them. Resolve the disk location in order to fix this problem.

Files -- If you double click on a file and it opens but tells you that it cannot find the file or one of its components, it is complaining about the inability of PowerAlbum to resolve the file references ofr some pictures.

Duplexing printers and top or side binding -- This release of Calendar Creator may not set the binding correctly to duplexing printers. If you have trouble printing double sided calendars on a duplexing printer, turn off the duplexing feature in the Print Properties dialog box.

Double sided printing to non-duplexing printers -- When printing double sided print jobs to some printers the entire first side of the print job may not finish before the dialog titled 'First side printing complete' appears. If you follow the instructions and then click OK on this dialog, the resulting print job will be out of order.

Suggested workaround:
Remove all paper from the print tray except for the number needed to finish the first part of the job.

Example:
If you are printing a 6 sided, 3 page, calendar, make sure there are only 3 pieces of paper in the printer tray. Start your double sided print job the way you normally would. Take note of the instructions for placing the 1st part of the print job back in the paper tray when 'First side printing complete' comes up, and click OK. When the third page has been printed, place the pages back in the tray according to the noted instructions, and let the printer complete the job. The result should be a good double sided calendar.

Double-sided printing -- If you select "double sided" in Print Options - or print an Instabook (which is always double sided) - and find that your calendar prints as though you did not select doublesided, you may be printing with a driver that provides "duplexing options".

Ccwin 3.0's ability to print double-sided automatically to duplexing printers "outsmarts" some drivers and will not enable you to do a manual double sided job to such a driver. In some cases, and/or on some systems, a printer driver that does not have duplexing options may act as though it does toward Ccwin. The work arounds, as presently known, are listed below:

For HP LaserJets and compatibles: Try another laserjet driver (LaserJet II, or III) that will print double-sided. Will work fine almost 100% of the time.

For HP Color DeskJets: Try another compatible color driver too. If none is available (likely since they vary alot), try a black and white driver for double sided printing.

For other printers: Try the same as above.

The following commands, although they appear in this product, will NOT be implemented until the next release of Calendar Creator:

 	- Creation of .CSV files from within Calendar Creator. Calendar Creator can still read .CSV files created elsewhere.
	- Display object on all dates on the Occurence Tab.
	- Next day and Previous Month in Text Layout.
	- Match Whole Word in Find dialog.
	- Banners for single day events.
	- Find in the Notes subsystem.
	- Delete button in Object Properties.

PowerAlbum 95
=============

----------------
PowerAlbum is automatically installed with Calendar Creator for Windows 95.

2. New and Improved Features.
-----------------------------
This release contains a substantial amount of new functionality.

   a.	RESIZABLE BOOK.
PowerAlbum's Book view window is completely resizable. You
decide how much or how little to display on the screen.

   b. FILMSTRIP.
A completely new User Interface designed to provide all
the functionality of PowerAlbum while using very little
screen space. You can decide how large or small the
Filmstrip will display and whether to display it in
vertical or horizontal orientation. This new view is
very powerful for Drag and Drop usage. You can toggle
	between Filmstrip and Book views.

   c.	ALWAYS ON TOP.
You can select the Always on Top option to make the
albums easily accessible for Drag and Drop with other
	applications.

   d. DRAG AND DROP.
PowerAlbum now has full Drag and Drop functionality with
all OLE 2.0 applications. This simplifies the usage of
	all your organized files.

   e.	VARIABLE THUMBNAIL SIZES.
You can choose to display the thumbnails in five different
sizes - tiny, small, medium, large and huge. You can have
different thumbnail sizes in the Book and Filmstrip views.

   f.	FRAMES.
Multiple objects, or files, may be placed in a frame. The
Frame feature makes grouping and cross-referencing files
	very simple.

   g. EXPANDED FILE FORMAT SUPPORT.
PowerAlbum now supports all file types. You can organize
everything from pictures to videos to spreadsheets. Any
file type can be organized and documented.

   h.	EXPANDED OBJECT DEFINITION.
Every object, or file, orgainized in PowerAlbum has four
properties: filename, name, keywords and description.
This allows more detailed documentation and search
	capabilities.

   i. EXPORT PICTURES TO NEW FORMATS.
You can convert your pictures to other file formats.
See the Picture Export Restrictions section for a list
	of restrictions.

   j. EXPANDED SLIDE SHOW FEATURES.
The slide show now has transition options. This feature
can be used as a personalized screen saver. Slide show
transitions can only be used with raster images.

3. Tips for Using and Building Albums.
--------------------------------------
   a.	COPY ALBUMS TO THE HARD DRIVE
Using and opening albums is faster when the albums are
copied to the hard drive versus reading	them directly
from the CD-ROM. This also allows the albums to be
viewed without the CD-ROM in the drive.

   b.	MAXIMUM ALBUM SIZE IS 2,000 OBJECTS
While PowerAlbum can build albums larger, it is best to
keep the album size under 2,000 objects. This makes the
easier to use and faster to open.

4. Information for Calendar Creator Users.
------------------------------------------
PowerAlbum 95 is fully compatible with Calendar Creator 3.0
  for Windows 95.

5. Information for PowerAlbum 1.x and 2.x Users.
------------------------------------------------
PowerAlbum 95 can also work with albums (ALB files) from
PowerAlbum 1.x and 2.x or Calendar Creator for Windows,
1.x or 2.x. However, to use these albums, it is necessary
to import the old ALB album into PowerAlbum 95 and save it
as a PWR file. The new PWR album cannot be used in previous
  versions of PowerAlbum.
Note: The album import process is relatively slow.

6. Picture Export Restrictions.
-------------------------------
The following limitations apply to Exporting Pictures in
  PowerAlbum:

	1) No vector image can be exported to a raster format.
	2) No raster image can be exported to a vector format.
	3) No PCD can be exported to another raster format.
