ClipMate 4.0 Release Notes
Version 4.0.1 Build 85
June 13, 1996

INSTALLATION
------------
Just run the included Setup.exe program. We have
different versions to run on 16-bit and 32-bit
systems. It is appropriate to install into either
\clipmt40 or \program files\clipmt40
but we do not recommend installing into the same
directory as a pre-existing ClipMate 2.x or 3.x
version. Also, you can install both the 16 and
32-bit versions, but they must reside in separate
directories (they can share a data directory,
however.)

RE-INSTALLATION
---------------
If you are installing this version over the top
of a previous build of ClipMate 4 (including beta)
then here are some common questions:
Q: Will my existing ClipMate 4 registration number
   continue to work?
A: YES - the registration is kept in CLIPMT40.INI,
   which is preserved.
(provided that you HAVE previously registered
   version 4)

Q: Will my data be overwritten or deleted?
A: No - the install only replaces files with updated
ones - no deleting is performed.

Q: Should I uninstall the old one first?
A: No need - just install over the top of what's there.

Q: What about version 3.x registration numbers, will
   they work?
A: No - you need to upgrade.

Change History
--------------
4.0.1 BUILD 85
-------------------
> ClipMate would sometimes stop capturing if left on
past 12:00 AM. This was due to some errant date
logic which protects against duplicates. Fixed.
> The Picker window would have problems with empty
  data - fixed.
> A hard-coded pathname made it problematic to move
ClipMate to a different drive or diectory - fixed.
> The main menu was missing an underscore for the
  Config menu item.
> Added "Are You Sure" prompt to the Delete All
  function.
> The Appliation Profile is now a little "smarter",
as it now knows about WordPerfect 7.

4.0.0 BUILD 84
-------------------
> Bitmaps were not being properly de-allocated from memory
when they weren't the current active item. Fixed.
> Build 83 had the main window a few pixels to short
vertically, which caused the bottom edge of the window
to be chopped a little. (cosmetic)

4.0.0 BUILD 83
-------------------
> Fixed GPF that occurred when you invoked Collection
Management dialog from right-click menu in the
  Activate Collection drop-down list.
> Fixed problem with Application Profiles, which prevented
profiles from being built for the Win95 Explorer.
> Altered work-around for Brian Quinon's Spell program.
  See Notes Below.

Known Problems:
---------------
There are several known problem that exist on some
systems. We are working on fixing them, but they are
not severe enough to delay the launch. Check our WWW
page for updates.

> Help - Out Of Memory messages.
These are harmless errors that occur if you click
on a hypertext link, appearing in a pop-up help
window ("What's This" style help windows).
We think that it's really a bug in the Help system,
and since the popup help does double-duty as part
of the regular help system, we don't really want
to remove the links, which are valuable when working
  with the regular help system.
> Hotkey conflicts - The hotkeys (32-bit only) can
conflict with other applications, if the same keys
are used. This usually affects F1..F12 or
Shift+F1..Shift+F12. Just turn them off, if they
  cause trouble.
This has been known to affect WordPerfect, as well
as other word processors that make use of F-keys.
> Phantom Icon - even though you choose for the icon
to go into the SysTray (Windows95 feature) there
may be another icon present at startup in the regular
taskbar. This only affects some systems, and we
are working on a fix. We currently suspect that it
only happens on systems running Norton Navigator.
If you find differently, please tell us.
> Stay On Top option doesn't work when iconified in
  non-windows95-gui systems.
> Tab Behavior Problem - 16-bit only.
Tab in User Prefs dialog gets
fouled once you click into the Application Profile
settings. This is easily worked-around by simply
closing the dialog, and re-opening it.

Missing Features:
-----------------
There are several features from 3.1 that aren't currently
implemented, but will arrive in later builds:
 > "sticky icon" - icon remembers position on screen (not yet
   implemented)
 > Icon Shows X when not capturing (not yet implemented)
 > Control Menu (menu attached to icon) (not implemented)
Most of these are addressed in different ways when using
 Windows95 / NT 4.0.
 > DIB Bitmaps - ClipMate can't currently display them.
We'll add this feature in a later release.

Compatibility Notes:
--------------------

 Brian Quinon's Spell Program
 ----------------------------
We are working with Brian on a permanent solution, but
in the meantime, this is how you make ClipMate ignore
the Spell program, if you get errors in Spell:
add this line to your \windows_directory\clipmt40.ini file,
at the end of the [CLIPMATE] section:
       Ignore_MSGSRV32=1

 Microsoft Excel
 ---------------
You may get "Can't Open Clipboard" errors from time to
time, when copying. This is due to some unfortunate
behavior in Excel. We're going to discuss this with
 Microsoft....

Distribution
------------
This version does not have the required VENDINFO.DIZ and
FILE_ID.DIZ files required for distribution. Please do
not distribute this release to other online services until
we provide these files.
